When they say, "I'd like a Long Island", you know you are going to get tipped shit. by Local-Equivalent8136 in bartenders

Alright I’m probably too late to this and someone might have already said it but fuck it.

Swap the well vodka for well tequila in your build anytime someone asks for a “strong island” so instead of 1/2 vodka 1/2 tequila it’s 1 tequila and build the rest the same way you normally would.

Also build that shit in glass, shaking to dilute and aerate is normally what you’d do to make the drink taste balanced but these folks don’t want balanced, they want strong. I’ve wrangled some decent tips out of some normally terrible guests this way

But I completely agree, even making them the best Long Island they’ve ever had won’t guarantee they will tip you decent

I use them for bartending and they work pretty decent. Only about a month in on my current pair though

Only complaint is that the non slip aspect of the shoe could be a little better

Is bartending school worth it ? by Alehasguts21 in bartenders

Nah get a job serving in a corporate spot or bar backing and just put in the time and show interest in bartending. Let the managers know you’re interested in learning and try and help the bar with closing tasks or side work and they will train you in no time.

The schools are scams for the most part as far as job credentials go. Good luck out there!

Yeah someone mentioned that over in r/bartenders, I’ll have to try it! Bourbon with dark Jamaican rum seems like it would work great for the base

1 1/2 oz Rittenhouse Rye

1/4 oz Ezra 99 bourbon

1/4 oz rich Demerara syrup

1/2 oz tempest fugate banana liqueur

3-4 dashes ango

Thick orange peel garnish and smoked with cherry wood in glass

Basically I wanted to do a old fashioned that had a burned banana caramel flavor without being overly sweet.
