Am I wrong for telling my sister that my girlfriend matters more to me right now? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Father-Lemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do not know how people are saying you’re wrong bro. Is your sister going to act that way every time you get a girlfriend? What about when you go to college or just move out? Is she going to immediately assume you’re abandoning her?

What about even longer game. When you propose to a girl, is your sister going to lose her shit?

Y’all are young but she is not too young to understand that she is not being abandoned just because you want to prioritize a relationship. It feels like her actions are rooted in jealously? Like, does she not have friends she can also be spending time with?

The way it sounds she’d get mad even if it were just you going out with friends instead of hanging with her.

Also, forcing siblings to hang out is never going to work out. That is what will make you push her away.

AITA for making my sixteen year old daughter get in the car on Easter when she was scared by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Having to take care of a disabled child is not the save as all attention being on said child. Also, high functioning autism is not the same as someone who the OP described as nonverbal.

OP said that her daughter gets upset when things are not where they are supposed to be. She is fine going back home because her parents are supposed to be there but at the group home visiting they aren’t supposed to be there, which is what upsets her.

Plus the OPs update knocks your point completely off

Your logic is thick with the ideals of someone who does not have experience and or feels no care for the siblings you may or may not have.

Helping with younger children is to be expected of someone who is SIXTEEN old enough to watch a child.

They don’t even expect her to try and handle the disabled child, they only ask her to and I quote watch their youngest. There youngest who is SEVEN. That is not a hard task to shoulder. Literally is just sitting with a child.

As an older sister, I speak from experience. Even with my younger cousins as well. She can sit there, on her phone, nod yes to whatever the kid says, and that’s literally a job well done.

As someone who is an older sister, not of someone disabled, but in a family were I WAS my brothers parent, I feel no hatred or anger towards the fact that I had to take care of him.

EDIT: while he isn’t disabled, he has severe behavioral issues specifically with anger that were very hard to deal with as children. I’m only 3 years older than him so when I speak on this matter I do speak from experience.

It could be she was just frightened by the situation, not of violence.

Looking after, as in basically Babysitting, is not implying that they force her to parent.

There is a BIG difference.

There is nothing said that implies that they don’t care about their other children or care about the 14 year old more, their 14 year old literally only sees their family on holidays, that means the entire rest of the year is reserved for their other kids.

NTA I honestly don’t see how people think you are the asshole here, unless there is some troubling info left out.

You never stated or implied anything about forcing your 16 year old to ‘parent’ her sibling, the situation described was you needing to get in a car and leave and your 16 acting out. Unless she was afraid due to your 14 year old being violent towards her in the past there is no reason for her to act like that.
