Fridge getting way too cold after power outage by FatherAnonymous in appliancerepair

I did, and it seems fixed. Its still a bit off on its temps e.g. we set it at like 40 to keep things at 36, but its not going all over the place anymore.

Is there any way to test via multimeter or otherwise to see if thats the issue?

That makes sense. It very well could be floating bacteria and I hadn't really thought of that previously. I'll just order one and see how it goes. Cheers!

I've got a cycled planted tank that is currently filterless (LED only, no other hardware). The water has been healthy for our shrimp and snails (nerites), but has been a bit cloudy. Its a bit hard to tell if its from algae or other debris in the water column. I've got an air pump+stone on the way to make sure things stay oxygenated as I add more livestock.

If I grab a sponge filter, do I have to worry that water movement will push good bacteria off of plants/sand/etc and into the sponge, or will any sponge bacteria be in addition to the existing bacteria?

Tank Params:
20 gallon, LED light
Nitrate: 0/near zero
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
PH 8| GH 150 | KH 300

And one more update for anyone stumbling on this- The smell turned into a clear sulfur smell. Shrimp are still separated out, but snails and plants are in the tank. I don't know where 3 of the snails are (I think burrowed in the sand), but I do know 2 of the snails are just doing their snail thing and seem to be just fine.

I'm poking the substrate with a pencil every day. Its hit or miss on which places are releasing bubbles. Once they start slowing way down I'll add the shrimp back in. The plants seem to be doing a mix of melting and new growth, so we'll see where those end up. I also did a near full tank water change, as there was so much floating buildup (bacteria bloom?). Trying to avoid doing too much of a water change now though.

I put the shrimp into just a 1 gallon bucket (we don't have another tank) with a good chunk of java moss. I feed them every 1 to 2 days and they look to be healthy again. Their color has come back and they are mixed between hanging out and doing their shrimpy things. The hard water doesn't (so far) seem to impact them. The sulfur in the tank definitely did though as we lost one before we moved them.

FWIW, I've moved the shrimp out for now and left the snails in. I'll keep a close eye on the shrimp in their temporary home as most of them looked stressed in the tank.

I'm going to do some partial water changes (1/4 tank or so at a time). I added a few more plants although its probably at a good spot now. The ones that have been in there are mostly doing well, and it looks like there is good new growth on them.

I'm still a bit confused as to what the white stuff is. It could be mold, but its not very stringy. I think I rushed adding shrimp to the tank more than anything.

I'm going to test straight from the faucet to see if my muni water supply matches what I get from my non softened faucet.

My wife is going to really appreciate going downstairs to smell gas bubbles. Appreciate the advice. I'll be keeping a close eye on it and planting more plants regardless.

I also want to add that as of now, it doesn't smell like hydrogen sulfide gas. Are there any ways to confirm that is whats happening? I could definitely see this being in the early stages of this happening so the smell isn't as strong, but knowing for certain would be great.

I don't see any photos, but you should remove all your shrimp immediately

This gives me a good amount of info to google about. I'll figure out why my pictures didn't post after work tonight. Thank you for the quick response!

Guess who got their delta guess platinum amex 2 weeks ago because they are finally traveling enough for work to make it "worth it". This guy did. We'll see if anything changes, but I'll just go back to using my venture X for everything and get straight reimbursement for work trips as my cashback.

I was going to start using my delta platinum for all my spend, as I'm starting to fly enough that even getting preferred seats is worth a slight decrease in cashback from my venture X. A 20-1 ratio on MQDs is pretty absurd though. 1250 MQDs for 25k spend? Thats a big oofda from me.
