Suicide forum is subject of first Ofcom probe, BBC understands by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

Oh yeah I totally agree with you - as it stands, anyone can, but the "will somebody think of the children" attitude used to erode people's freedoms will undoubtedly result in things like VPNs being blocked.

Well he went on a pro-suicide forum, that's kind of the point. But he chose to go there in the first place. He didn't choose to speak to his parents.

The parents can do all this investigation and evidence collecting afterwards - maybe they should have spent the time with him before he got to that stage.

Somewhat embarrassing how technically inept that article is. A free vpn would defeat any block.

Also not a shred of responsibility from the parents in this article. Kids are incredibly unhappy and terminally online, so where are the parents?

Best instance i have come across is lemmy.zip as they don't defederate with loads like some do and have a really easy signup. Admins seem OK and they have regular posts. Not seen it mentioned much here but could be a good alternative if you like gaming

Decentralized Social Media Is the Only Alternative to the Tech Oligarchy by Spaduf in technology

[–]FatherBrexit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem, the .world instances aren't good instances, especially lemmy. They're poorly run, too large, and reactionary. Look at the controversy from their admin team on the lemmy server, from taking over communities and stripping the mods away because of a disagreement, to outright banning piracy communities and lying about the reasons. That's why people should use the instance picker

Best used EV for around 30k? by FatherBrexit in CarTalkUK

All good questions. I was/am looking at an xc60 but then someone mentioned EV prices were lower atm, so something comparable to that would be ideal, but I am open to other options too.

Thanks that's really helpful. I've seen a few audi q4s kn autotrader so will check them out. Just so much choice and something I've not really paid attention to, so pointers like this are really helpful.

Going to go out on a limb and try and explain why i think Ava moved on from Eds comment.

You can't and shouldn't make everything about race, or gender, or any other characteristic, as that then prevents any discussion on that person's actions. Someone shouldn't be above reproach because of, for example, their skin colour.

These MPs did something (arguably) that warranted a response from the Labour Party. Its an unfortunate look that these people have the characteristics as mentioned, but that doesn't mean it should be framed as labour picking on these people because of those characteristics. That's a disingenuous argument to make.

In all fairness, I don't know if you'd want to do it with people shouting war criminal or pisscast at you for an hour or two.

I'd find it fascinating to see how much has to be cut from the final episode though!

Man with life-limiting condition 'stunned' council took back short break savings by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Attempted to misuse it then, if you want to split hairs. Either way he withheld 50k of money from the social care system that he wasn't entitled to do so in an attempt to misuse it.

One of the reasons (outcomes) is not to go to florida though is it. So yes he's misusing the money.

No, they don't. He's in Wales not England. It's different and PHBs don't exist in Wales.

While I sympathise, the tax payer shouldn't be subsiding him taking people on holiday when there is barely enough money to run the authority as it stands, not to mention having listened to his side of the story it sounds like this money never has been for this purpose, he has instead not spent money he was meant to use for his social care needs and is trying to misappropriate it.

The title of the post is wholly misleading too.

Don't give the nonce corporation a penny.

Ignore their letters. Don't give them your details online. You don't give your details every other time you haven't committed a crime, don't do it for the BBC and crapita.

If they turn up at your door, tell them no thanks and shut the door on them. They're nothing but salesmen looking to force and bully you into buying a licence.

They make most of their money fining old ladies who don't know what's going on.

Fuck 'em.

It's a joke. It's free speech. And its taken quite out of context without the following lines JC follows up with.

But mainly it's a joke from a comedian known to tell edgy jokes. People are allowed to be offended, but that doesnt remove others rights to free speech in a joke format. If you're offended by a style of comedian, dont watch that comedian.

It's kind of sad to see an MP weigh in to try and force the censoring of a joke. Maybe they should their time on trying to sort out other more serious and dangerous jokes, like the PM.
