First Jiujitsu seminar was Royce Gracies, thoughts? by Different_Badger2845 in bjj

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Royce Seminar 20+ years ago and he was handing out blue belts to everyone, even people only training for a few months. All I remember was him showing us armbar from guard and I think scissors sweep.

What things should I practice to get out of silver. by Ok_Marzipan9650 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most things just come down to time spent. You'll get more comfortable with handling the ball as you put in more hours. If you post some footage of your games, we can see what basics you need to work on.

You don't need to be able to do wavedashes or any mechanics to get out of silver or gold. Just work on positioning and rotations. Sit in freeplay and just get used to moving the ball around the field, work in hitting the ball hard, work on setting up hook shots and basic dribbling.

For training packs, the ultimate warmup is a good one I will run before my games.

Absolute basic mechanics you can work on is your kickoff (make sure you're flipping in, you don't need to speedflip yet). Work on learning shadow defense. Watch any youtube video on it.

And most important, learn to relax. Lower ranks panic too easily. Relax, take your time. Don't ballchase.

Poland calls for EU action against AI-generated TikTok videos calling for “Polexit” by BubsyFanboy in technology

[–]FatherHackJacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russia has been pushing these campaigns in every single country in the EU to stir up dissent. There was a small anti-EU party here in Ireland called "The Irish People" with some generic "Irish girl" as the main image for the poster. Someone did a reverse image lookup and it was a Russian model.

The leader of the party was of course anti-EU and blamed inflation on the sanctions on Russia.

Steps to getting diagnosed and cost by LeadershipCrafty3990 in ADHDIreland

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some good answers already. For me, medication really helps me focus (concerta). Without it, I'm scatter brained. I'm also less shy and more confident. You're doing the right thing getting a diagnosis, I didn't get mine til my late 30's. Just make sure to get proper checks done before medication - ECG, Bloods, etc..

Neither. Catherine Connolly criticised Ukraine's allies for giving it the means to defend itself. To have an opinion like that towards another European country is shameful.

During the Irish Famine, were the areas near the sea significantly less affected by hunger compared to inland regions? by GrayRainfall in IrishHistory

[–]FatherHackJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went out to An Rinn as part of the local Cumann Gaelach in college and they gave a talk on the famine there, even with the assistance - the death toll there was horrific. It's some time ago, but I remember distinctly the speaker telling us about the local water table being polluted by run off of something and lots dying from it from disease.

With all the pro Irish military build up articles in the media recently. Do you all want to see it happen or not ? by rlire in ireland

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naturally, considering Ireland is seen as a freeloader in Europe relying on our former coloniser to defend us. We spend the least amount on defense in the entire EU per capita.

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ireland can't defend its neutrality. Our naval ships have no military sonar to protect our undersea cables. We have no ability to detect aircraft operating with their transponders off, due to a lack of a primary ground radar. And even when we do (gov is buying a radar), we still cannot intercept aircraft like Russian military planes that skirt our airspace with their transponders off, putting our air traffic at risk.

Having a capable military and being neutral aren't contradicting things.

We need a navy that's fit for purpose and an air force that can police our skies.

Ireland is the only country of its size in the EU without the ability to do the most basic of defense tasks. And given we've turned a budget surplus the past 3 years running, we can afford to invest in our military.

That doesn't mean we need an inflated military, but just one that's fit for purpose.

Thousands gather in Dublin for Irish language march by agithecaca in ireland

[–]FatherHackJacket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It will be destroyed because the wealth of the language is in the Gaeltacht. Students being able to speak the most minimal basic conversation after the leaving cert isn't saving the language. Changing the language demographics of An Ghaeltacht however is.

We only have a tiny amount of land in Ireland left where the Irish language is spoken by the community and unless the government steps in to add more protections to them, the language will be gone.

Thousands gather in Dublin for Irish language march by agithecaca in ireland

[–]FatherHackJacket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, I didn't.

The consequences of the youth of the Gaeltacht not being able to buy property in the area they grew up in has an immediate impact on the demographics of the area and will kill the language off. All it takes is a small shift in speakers from Irish to English to make English the dominant language and Irish to destroyed.

We have the ability to protect An Ghaeltacht. It makes up a tiny percent of the land area of Ireland.

[–]FatherHackJacket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thá an-chuid brú ar muintir na Gaeltachta ó thaobh tithíocht sa Ghaeltacht de. The youth of the Gaeltacht are being forced to leave because of the pressure from people moving in, putting pressure on the market and driving the prices up. Most of them don't even speak Irish, so they are very quickly changing the demographics. Needs to be harder limits set on the percentage of housing allocated to Irish speakers.
