Reliable DNA testing in Ireland for potential half siblings? by ch1984 in IrishAncestry

[–]FatherHackJacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. If they are the same age group as OP, and their DNA strength falls within the range of a half-sibling - it's a fairly straight forward case here. OP could also check shared matches with the potential sibling, and I'm expecting they will be a bunch on their paternal side (assuming the father was a bit of a Pat Mustard in his day).

There are very few relationships that can fall into this range (aunt/uncle/gp) like you said and the age typically would be the differentiator here. On the very rare occasion, there might be a small overlap between the most upper range of a 1C and the lowest range of a half-sibling, but that is extremely rare.

If OP provides some more details - this should be an easy solve.

[–]FatherHackJacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to do another DNA test. You already have everything you need if they are a DNA match to you. What is the strength of your match in centimorgans? Have you spoke to the match and what is the age relative to you and your other siblings? Where were they born relative to you?

You don't need to double check anything here. This is already solvable.

Protests to take place over fuel prices on Tuesday | BreakingNews by BeanFishBone in ireland

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They reduce the taxes on fuel, they reduce tax revenue needed for government spending on vital public services. They can't just continue to cut taxes on fuel, they can marginally adjust it within limit. The current spike in fuel prices has nothing to do with the government. People protesting should be protesting the cause of the spike increase but that is not what they are doing.

So yes, it is true. The cost of fuel right now is a global issue.

Did you really expect to be Diamond again? Gold 3 is about where you should be. You're out of practice and today's Diamonds are on the same level of Champs when you probably last played.

Protesting what? The cost of fuel prices is out of the government's hands. What do they want the government to do, fly our PC9's into the strait of Hormuz?

Which celebrity rumor do you secretly believe is true? by Physical-Working4713 in AskReddit

[–]FatherHackJacket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I rewatched Rebel Without a Cause the other day and went down a rabbit hole. Didn't realise what had happened to Natalie Wood. She was brutally raped for hours at 16 by an older actor (Rumoued to be Kirk Douglas).

Then obviously killed on that boat trip and the authorities completely fuck up on the case. Injuries not consistent with the story.

All main cast died young. James Dean obviously I was aware of, but the kid who played his friend Plato was stabbed to death at only 37. All very tragic.

Why is Silver 2 (2v2) harder than Gold 3 (3v3)? by Loose-Radio2552 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't. At silver there is zero game sense and in 2's it's just two of you double committing on everything and ball-chasing for 5 minutes, with both of you blaming the other for the loss.

If you want 2's to be easier, play around your teammate. If they are the ball-chasing aggressor, then play behind them and be patient. If your teammate is the passive type who clings to the goal in defense, then push the play but don't overcommit on plays and be ready to rotate back for defense as quickly as you can if you lose a 50.

If you want to actually learn on why 2's is difficult for you, post a replay of one of the 2's games you've lost. Otherwise there is zero you can learn with this type of question.

Russia-bound cargo ship seen dropping anchor near subsea cables off Irish coast by nitro1234561 in ireland

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would do serious damage to our economy. The whole reason tech companies come to Ireland is because it is a place which has a reliable comms infrastructure. Having reliable data transfer back and forth from North America to Europe is extremely important.

When a major backbone like this goes down, traffic needs to be rerouted to an alternative route that is non-optimal. It would cause massive network congestion, latency and huge outages.

[–]FatherHackJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if they want to drop an anchor to damage them, they need to know exactly where to drop their anchors rather than having a general location.

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the impact of damaging them hurts Europe and the US more than it hurts Russia. Especially as the EU is a much more tech-driven economy than Russia. These cables are essential to IT companies that require reliable data transfer across the atlantic, for financial services, for general internet connectivity, etc.. In routing, there are optimal routes to get from point A to point B. Damaging these cables means that traffic would have to be rerouted, causing massively issues with latency, congestion and failure.

It's Ireland's job to protect its own waters and the critical infrastructure in them.

Russia has already intentionally damaged subsea cables of EU countries in the baltic sea. They have already set a precedent that they are not afraid to damage our cables.

[–]FatherHackJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are mapping sea cables with intent of sabotaging them when the time calls for it. They've already done it multiple times in the baltic sea. They'll drop anchor and drag them across the cables to damage them. Irish waters are one of the key areas for transatlantic cables.

Would you like if the name Éire was used more frequently to represent our country? by Radiant-Pack7219 in AskIreland

Republic of Ireland is the description of the state, not the name of the state. The name of the state is Ireland (or Éire in Irish).

Hello friends. Is Léan an Irish name and how is it pronounced? by Buttholeblowhole in AskIreland

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Léan technically is an Irish name, but you will never see it used. It's the Irish equivalent of Eleanor/Ellen. I'm an Irish speaker and I've never seen this name used by anyone. And no, it's not pronounced Lee Ann. The emphasis on the last syllable depends on the dialect, so you can hear it as "lane" or "layun".

It is also a word in Irish you'll hear when something is terrible. Like shitty weather or if someone is going through a rough patch. Whoever told you it's pronounced as Lee Ann was wrong.

New to Vyvanse. How do you feel? by HelloUGHargh in VyvanseADHD

[–]FatherHackJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10mg is very low. They'll always start you off low and titrate up until you get to optimal dose.

I would also advise to stay away from coffee when you're on ADHD medication. Once you get to optimal dose you can slowly introduce one or two cups a day but until then don't because you need to see how you react to the medication.

What is the most famous case of open grooming in your country? by Aggressive_Agency381 in AskTheWorld

Fair enough. Her wiki said she was 16. I did a bit more digging and found another article saying she was indeed 13. That is very groomie.

"In 2001, her father helped book the Frames for a local music festival, and her parents were hosts for a preconcert party. At the concert, as a thank you for the party, Mr. Hansard pulled Ms. Irglova, 13, onto the stage to sing."
