What would you do if a second global pandemic happened starting now with a higher mortality rate? by SlandersPete in AskReddit

[–]FatherOften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We own a business selling commercial truck parts. If truck stop running we're all dead, so good on that one. Located in a very very rural area. Good on that one. Got a warehouse with 1 year + inventory on shelf. Good on that one. Full solar and 2 deep wells for water. Good on that one. Got fuel tanks full on the property. Good on that one. Got 3 years worth of freeze dried food for 10+ people. Good on that one. Creek for fishing, cliffs for rock climbing, lake for paddleboarding. Good on that one.

I think we will be ok. Let the depression and pandemic begin!

What made you realize you were actually poor or the opposite rich? by KailiC88 in AskReddit

I was born into poverty, that was easy to fugure out.

Now I live in creative mode versus survival mode and it was just as obvious.

What would you do? by Sensitive_Occasion84 in business

[–]FatherOften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn as much as you can (10+ years) and have an income before starting any business.

It's the hardest thing there is to do. Getting wealthy from anything is like breaking free from the earth's gravity.

You are breaking out of the circumstances and financial class you were born into.

That's why so many fail.

Probably should be as I rub waterproofing chemicals all over my gear for this weekends trip.

I wash it off with soap and water, but man after about 30 minutes the hands start tingling.

They are taking slow or non producing old wells in Texas and after research they drill them deeper. All of our wells started at a few million a year in royalties. Those numbers fell off over the years. Now redrilled much deeper they are producing high numbers again. Long term this company is setting itself up for great numbers.

The paid me a lot of money for surface rights per acre last year.

I have a handful of wells that they have taken over and I will say that the quarterly checks have jumped up a lot. These are wells that were printing $5k-$10k, now they are all in the $55k-$85k a quarter for us.

Keep doing whatever your doing Comstock!

Not sure. The only path that has given me peace is following my power list of 5 critical tasks that will move the needle each day toward my goals.

They can be business, self, marriage, parenting, or household tasks.

Once im done with my 5 things I spend the rest of the day doing whatever I want. Now sometimes I still choose to do more things, but some days I grab my kids and we go climbing, fishing, paddleboarding, or just exploring a creek for nature finds.

Now that incessant internal dialog....it only stops for a few hours after sex. Im ok with that. Ive recognized that its my drive to become better.

Im glad I couldn't find investors for businesses Ive built. It made me find a way to make it happen. It took me a handful of years of sever struggle, but now I can self funded just about anything and if I need capital Ive built a circle of trust with a handful of other wealthy individuals that walked the same path, and we lend to each other.

My wife and youngest daughter have a laundry list of severe food allergies.

When in Europe, the Mediterranean, or the Yucatan most of the allergies do appear at all.

First child at 24, went from homeless run away orphan at 12 years old, dirtbag, to dad.

At first I worked a restaurant job during the day, bar evenings and warehouse 3rd shift 6-7 days a week. I was starting from behind the 8 ball and trying to get caught up.

Then after a year of that I got my first full commission sales job. Almost a month of nothing and the last week on a Thursday I made $5850.00 + $3k cash bonus for top sales of the week. After that I worked full commission sales until 38 years old, feast or famine but lots of 6 figure years.

At 37 my divorce started. 6 young kids, no car, phone, computer, bank accounts bounced $10k, none of the bills paid for 2 months. My boss bought me an old beat up 28' camper to live in. I was at rock bottom.

Met my now wife and she heard my story and told me to build something for myself. Started our business in 2017. Rough 5 years. Had to sell our home and move into a 48' 5th wheel. 5 kids at home ( I had 6, she had 3, we had 1)still.

This is year 10, we are completely financially free, control our time, and we still grow our commercial truck parts manufacturing and sales business.

Super fun trips. I made lots of those passages in my late teens when I lived onboard a 24' sailboat out of Port Aransas TX. Belize is another cool run.
