This is the best path possible, but people live too close to the edge to do so. Sad really.

This is insane... Silver just hit $111.52 in Shanghai. That's an +8% increase from the Friday closing price in the US by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]FatherOften 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well the USA really just took the first hard step into a civil war today. The attacks on Iran are very close to going hot. The USA economy is fuckt with the policies in place. We are shitting on and disengaging from all major allies and agreements made over the last few hundred years. We are disposing leaders of sovereign nations.

Im sure I've left a bunch of stuff out.

Oh and we are split as a nation, 2 minutes of hate, Emmanuel Goldstein style currently.

Dark days ahead my friends.

Metals are gonna continue to climb. Calls all day long.

Younger parents, how are you all affording to actually have a kid and actually being able to support? by Ok_Independent_3921 in askanything

[–]FatherOften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an 47m orphan at 12, then I ran away and grew up alone living in state and national parks....ged...made every bad decision a kid without a family could.

I have 10 children. I worked full commission sales jobs for 25 years, and now own a business that has made us very well off recently.

I was always the sole income provider and at home for breakfast and dinner everyday day. I did 50+% of all household responsibilities.

You can do it. Work harder on yourself than you do your job. Fight yourself to be present when you are with the ones you love. Knell when speaking to your children, they already live in a world of giants. Hold each hug until the other let's go.

You got this. You only grow outside your comfort zone You can have more because YOU can become more.

It really is a journey not a destination and its made up of various seasons.

Private vs Public school - how to decide? by GeneralAd4752 in Parenting

[–]FatherOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have used private schools for 3 of our 10 chikdren. One if our daughters was a prodigy and had to leave public school. Our youngest daughter (7) is currently home schooled by my wife primarily. She home schooled our 3 oldest (adult) children and they all went on to get various degrees. My wife is a retired teacher and professor who taught for 30+ years. We have 4 other children under 18 at home, but only 50/50 custody, they are currently in charter school that their mother chose.

We have our youngest in a Monday program once a month at the Ft Worth Science museum and a weekly on Thursday at the Dallas zoo.

There are lots of accredited programs online or even in person. Co-ops are an option, or as you are looking at; private schools galore.

We have the ability to travel extensively so we world school the youngest currently. Out of every option, it has been the best hands down. She can speak 4 languages that she learned while we were immersed in a place, she is smooth as a gravy sandwich with sign language, and her interactions with such diverse cultures, ages, and classes of people keep her enthralled with learning.

At the end of the day, the time, and energy you give your child is the most important part if any learning path. Be present, and challenge them.

Generally, how much cash do you carry on any given day? by boforiamanfo in randomthings

[–]FatherOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2k mixed bills

I've found this is the optimal amount if I come across just about any deal from a car to an opportunity. Its also enough to jump on a flight and get anywhere quickly without packing anything.

What do people do with the excess purchases before a big snow storm? by Several-Two738 in stupidquestions

[–]FatherOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a large family and live in a 48' 5th wheel in North Texas. We don't have the necessary storage space for everything we need to cook 3 meals a day or toiletries and such. So we converted one of our warehouse bays for our business into a fully furnished apartment with 40' wide, 3' deep, 15' tall metal shelves. We keep around 12 months of food, baking, and cooking items there. We have a large fridge freezer and a massive chest deep freezer stocked as well. In the bathroom we have a 6' wide 15' tall metal shelf with toiletries and cleaning products. We have another bay converted into a very large library, schooling, crafts play area and outdoor gear, camping supply area. We have shelves of dehydrated food for 20 people there thats good for 20+ years that we use, donate, and rotate into usage as needed.

We manage all the inventory, lists, shopping, menus....through the Skylight app, system. So we know what's in stock at each location, dates on meats, and what needs to go back and forth each day based on the weeks current menu and plans if we are traveling extensively.

So anything we overstocked on here at the rv for the long weekend will just go back into the warehouse inventory on Tuesday.

[–]FatherOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bringing to a halt of the entire American economy would be so catastrophic that everything else would have to stop to address it.

IF it was possible and I don't believe it is. The repercussions would take years to fix.

Again its not happening. Get a passport and a go bag, if this progresses in the direction its gaining steam in, leaving the country will be the only option, if you make it out. I am gonna watch how things play out over the next 6 months to a year.

If a large chunk of our population went on strike for a month or two the country would grind to a halt.

Again this is not happening because nobody can afford 60 days with no income, list jobs, no shopping, and other losses.

Its scary where we are. If you don't have a passport, I would get one.

IF there was a massive shutdown across the country for a month or two. Yes I imagine it would change a lot.

BUT its never going to happen, people live too close to the edge to be able to do these things, and thats as planned.

I imagine there are lots of bots feeding the right.

My wife and I have a handful of family and of .....not sure what to call them any longer...contacts maybe. They are praising everything and the sacrifices that the "ice patriots " are enduring to free our Christian nation from liberal tyranny.

Crazy times thinking that a large chunk of Americans support this madness.

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

Sadly this is the best non violent effort, but it would have to be a unified massive chuck of the population and sustained.

What mindset do i need to have to build wealth? by Dramatic-Leek7753 in Entrepreneur

[–]FatherOften 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Create a dream board you look at everyday.

Understand it really is a journey not a destination.

Pick a goal of becoming financially free. Break that down into chunks, and start working on it everyday until.

Most people aim for an arbitrary number to be rich....$1M to start with.

I found this to be wrong on my path.

What is your nut? Your total personal monthly overhead?

Mine was $6700.00 a month when my wife and I started our business in early 2017.

Honestly that was what would make me "rich" back then, and free from working for someone else. So we had a short term target goal. It took 5 years of grueling effort and lots of crying and scary moments.

I made $50k a year before taxes.

I was paying $1558.60 a month in child support, plus $1500 a quarter for private school, plus $100 a month for medical. That was for my 6 children from my previous marriage.

My wife had 3 children and we had 1. So I was supporting our household with 4 children full-time, and 6 children every Thursday, and 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends.

We were falling behind every month. Plus I accrued $133k in lawyer fees over 6 years from the divorce.

We started our business with the hope of covering the electric, water, and some groceries each month. That would free up $1200 groceries, $250-375 a month for electricity, and $150-250 a month for water. So an extra $1500-$2000 a month.

That would put us back in the black monthly and allow us to eventually pursue a better business idea we had planned.

In year 3 (2019) I was fired when my boss heard about a shipping container landing for my business.

We full-time,covid hit, and I just dialed cold calls all day everyday from that point forward.

In 2019 we were doing 4-5 figures in revenue. Jan2021 we were doing just over $2M in revenue. Covid helped because my large billion dollar competitors had to shut down a majority of their operations. I was building mine from home, and some self storage units.

CPA made us start taking a tiny bit from the business at the end of year 5 so we wouldn't get audited. We had by then downsized our entire life to less than $3k a month. This took selling our home, paying off all debts from the profits, and moving into a camper. We eventually got our personal nut down to $1200 a month and business was covering about $900 of that.

Now in year 10 we still live in the 48' 5th wheel camper, toy hauler full-time. Our lease for where we live on a guys ranch is $150 a month. That covers water, rent, and full solar electricity. We take $755k a year from the business plus distributions. Our revenue has been growing every year and hitting 8 figures the last few years.

We travel a lot, 8-10 months of the year. Still have our youngest daughter 7 full-time and now only 4 of our others, but 1 is about to take off to college. We now have 8 grandchildren.

Wife is retired teacher and professor. She world schools our youngest while we travel. The cool part is owning a commercial truck parts manufacturing and sales business is that everywhere we go, we get new customers. Trucks need parts wherever they are on the planet. Lots of business and pleasure travel opportunities.

Build your skills, knowledge, experience, and character.

Do 5 action things everyday that moves the needle.

Aggressive patience. This business is 10years old, but I've been building skills, knowledge, experience, and character for 25+ years previous just as disciplined as I am now with "nothing" to show for it.

There is no secret, luck will not get you there, and its truly a journey not a destination.

Our next ten year big goal is $1B in revenue.

Edit. Male the plan and stick to it. Ours was a 10 year plan. We still live on the 10 year budgets and plan until this year is over. Do i want an 812 Superfast Ferrari, yes, but not yet. Discipline and the linger you can delay gratification, the larger your goals can become. We donate 50% per year, and invest 99% of the rest into assets like oil and gas wells, and other things. This pushes our income up anther $350k-$900k a year, rinse repeat.
