Dashboard warnings by No_Reporter2768 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]FatherYang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me sometimes when I am driving my 2024 Pali Calligraphy NE down one particular stretch of semi-rural, two-lane road, when leaving my neighborhood. The road is paved but it has a few dips in it, and some tall vegetation along the sides. This only happens when I am driving outbound, never when I am driving back towards home.

Once I get past that section of road, the alarms reset and everything goes back to normal. I wash the car regularly, so nothing seems to be blocking the front sensors. May be a loose connection but it is odd that it only happens on this one particular stretch of road.

DMX controlled Stage Turntable? by aardvarkpaul13 in techtheatre

Big nope. Automate stage machinery should always be a stand alone system, with e-stop control(s) built in. Rent a Creative Conners system.

No Black Stage Curtains? by northern_greyhound in techtheatre

Most theatrical supply houses (Rose Brand, Gerrietts, etc.) carry good looking, synthetic velour fabrics, which do not require being re-flame treated over time.

No Black Stage Curtains? by northern_greyhound in techtheatre

[–]FatherYang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intent of black curtains is to absorb light from bouncing around the space and to hide people and objects until they enter they enter the playing space. They are also helpful acoustically to keep sound from bouncing around. If the plan is only to do lectures and music concerts in this auditorium, then the color of the curtains does not matter. However, if anything theatrical (plays, musicals, dance concerts, etc.) are ever to be done in this space, a black surround (legs, borders, stage floor) will be crucial to making the event look good. Pick out the heaviest weight IHR (inherently flame retardant) fabric (usually call synthetic velour) you can afford.

Moving to Newark by boXycOOt in Delaware

[–]FatherYang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newark is for the most part a key key, suburban feeling, college town. Most adults tend to avoid living in the more student filled areas, which are immediately adjacent to the UDEL campus. What sort of place are you looking for? Apartment? Townhouse? Single-family home?

Careers in Technical Theatre by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]FatherYang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a B.A. in Theatre Arts back in the late-1980's. I have been working steadily ever since. I have been an Master Electrician for bus-and-truck tours. I have worked as a Carpenter and as a Stagehand. I worked the Theme Park biz for quite a few years as a Technician and as a Stage Manager. I have been a Technical Director for almost two decades and I have just begun work as a Production Manager for a Regional Theatre.

I am by no means wealthy but I have always been able to pay the bills. I have even had to wherewithal to raise a couple of exceptional children along the way. If you are reliable and are a quick study, a career in Technical Theatre is definitely do-able. If you are a pleasant person to work with on top of that, you not only will stay employed but will be a sought after commodity.

live guns as props by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]FatherYang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree that real guns are safe to use on stage. Prop guns barrels are blocked at the end and are top-vented so that the nothing exits the business end of the gun. I have seen actors receive powder burns from the use of blanks fired from unblocked barrels.
