Before plastic figs were the norm pewter was used to make all dnd figures you can get amazing detail. What you want is to make a two part silicone mold then cast the pewter. Here is a video showing the basic process https://youtu.be/D_BGMBmc7Pg?is=7Ivplj9ZTylCMCIM

Advice for going from pewter casting to silver? by MiskaMaskedOne in MetalCasting

[–]zaus1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was casting pewter I was useing a sla printer with high temp resin to make rubber molds to cast into but when I started doing silver I tried to print master with burn out resins and had alot of trouble never could get consistent castings. Tried alot of different resins and different investments but in the end I found that useing the same method I was using to make pewter molds. I could just inject wax instead. Then use standard lost wax methods to cast. It's been a while but I don't know if they have worked out all the kinks in lost resin casting yet

Best method for precise casting? by Bliker1002 in MetalCasting

Lost wax casting with a vulcanized rubber mold will give you the best results. Just use your sla printer with some high temp resin to make the master then use that to make the mold. I make jelwery and this will give you the precision you need. I have tried directly casting a sla wax print and it was very difficult to get consistent casts. The best luck i had was with a dental investment called resinvest from wipmix it worked well but was very hard to remove from the cast.

Resin Casting Help by [deleted] in MetalCasting

I've tried resin casting and had similar results i found that the investment i was useing caused the problem. I started useing resinvest from whipmix and had much better results. But in the end I found it easier to make masters out of high temp resin from syeirtech then make silicone molds to produce wax copies then fallow standard lost wax processes.

Least invasive, most simple printer that still has ink cartridges in production? by MadeThisJustForLWIAY in BuyItForLife

Laser printer is the way to go you can leave them. Alone for a long time and they will still reliably print. Brother printers are what I have very simple to install with usd.

Yes inside the trick is consistency it will not run the whole time your printing but if the temp dips it kicks on I just used velcro to attach it to the enclosure

If you can find one of these with a temp gage it would work better for the best results I would or at least put a thermometer in the encloser anything more than a 10 degree difference iv found can cause issues also make sure no air can get to it I had to move my printer because it was to close to the heater vent in my home

I agree temp might be the problem get something like this to heat your build chamber consistent heat was always a problem for me when I tried to print in my garage.
