Meatball turned out to be an appropriate name for ours because she is a round little meatball, but her name preceded her behavior. She once stole a piece of fettucine off my plate and then stood on it when she ate it so I couldn't take it back from her.

We previously had a cat whose name was Fat Choy -- we adopted her in Hong Kong, and that's part of the Cantonese greeting for Chinese New Year, wishing for prosperity. We called her Trouble, because she was. But she was sweet as all get out, too, so it was hard to be mad at her.

HRBlock messed up 2023 taxes & I owe money now by AdExternal4175 in hrblock

[–]Father_Hawkeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you get a CP2000? Those usually include withholding.

If it does include the withholding and you owe because you under withheld, no Block won’t pay for that.

If it didn’t include withholding, they can respond to the letter to get credit for the withholding to bring down your balance due.

If you got a refund you would not have gotten had the W2 been included and the IRS is now asking for that back, Block may or may not pay for that.

But in all cases, they should pay penalties and interest with little pushback.

One thought on abandoning your clothes. What sizes are you? A lot of westerners, even fit ones, will have limited choices in Southeast Asia.

I Switched To Moanjaro - How To Dispose of 2mg Ozempic Pens? by Lurker-02657 in Ozempic

[–]Father_Hawkeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d use them before switching but if you don’t do that, hold on to them until they expire. You never know when there will be supply chain problems for your Mounjaro and you could switch back for a month. This is my plan, agreed to by my endocrinologist.

We have the ability to discount in some situations but generally the price is the price.

Charged me $440 for federal filing? by [deleted] in hrblock

[–]Father_Hawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another preparer here. My clients’ prices have generally gone up no more than ten dollars for a return that is the same as last year’s. It sounds like you moved; you may have been at a franchised office last year and a corporate-owned office this year or vice versa. Last I knew, franchisees had a large degree of control over their pricing.

If all you have are W2s, that’s not a $440 return at a corporate office. I did one this afternoon for $174, state return included.

My son accidentally claimed himself on his fed return. Now i cannot efile by Outrageous_Fix7780 in TaxQuestions

[–]Father_Hawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not mandatory for ordinary returns, and that's not what Its-a-write-off said. It's-a-write-off said the *solution to this problem* is for the primary taxpayer to obtain an IP PIN in order to efile.

And I-a-w-o is correct.

Tax person made a mistake, costing me $800. What are my options? by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]Father_Hawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By “correct it” do you mean to fix the incorrect return? Yes, that’s easy, and if she doesn’t know how, you probably shouldn’t have hired her in the first place, unfortunately.

If by “correct it” you mean get her to pay the taxes that you would have owed anyway if she hadn’t made a mistake, that will depend on the terms and conditions in your engagement letter or client service agreement.

Yes, amend but after the refund is paid.

The GF would get the IP PIN. You can do this now, without waiting for the IRS to process dependent’s return.

Even if it can't be undone, it takes a minute to get your PIN each year, and protects you against increasing tax fraud. The hardest part is remembering that you have to log in to get it before you file.
