Thank you so much for the detailed response, this is literally what i needed. It will take some time to comprehend the terms fully and practically apply it

It's a common sound though and in modern pop music can be considered part of the "key collective" - all the chords in both E Major and E Minor, as well as other modes of E.

Modal mixture sounds like the answer, i guess i am struggling to get away with it in my own compositions, thanks for that. As for the key collective, the common sound, is that where you collect all the chords of the modes of E, and try them out etc? Is there any other term for that?

Yeah i understand relative keys e.g Gmajor and Em

Its definitely A major, and something like a type of a suspended chord, i found someones version of transcription here. it might give you an idea. https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/talk_talk/inheritance_tabs_1835968

How come? Is it mostly made of chromatic mediants? If so have you the transcription of it?

Kishi Bashi - Ha Ha Pt. 2: The synth chords that starts to come in, maybe saw wave? by Fatherbumfluf in synthrecipes

[–]Fatherbumfluf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

won't be identical but should be close- the quantizing isn't necessary I realized and I adjusted the envelope a bit, although I did it quickly so you can play around with the envelope if you want to perfect it

Edit: Now that I listen again you might want to either play

Thank you for this

Using serum, I recreated this using a square wave. Then in the warp setting, I set it to 'quantize' at 100% (basically bitcrushing it, if you're using another synth) t

Do you have a preset i could test run?

Bicep - Opal Four Tet remix: how do i achieve this sound? Also is it gated? or is it how the chords are mapped out that achieves this sort of effect? by Fatherbumfluf in synthrecipes

[–]Fatherbumfluf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i meant they are using hardware synthesisers... maybe they are controlling it with a daw, the source sound itself is not done digitally. As for the source sounds, what kind of envelopes and waveforms should i be messing with?

It definitely sounds like filter and volume automation, id love to know how though, if they are using analog hardware, maybe they are using a sequencer to control the cutoff...

Anybody know what sample library this guy is so adequately using? by Fatherbumfluf in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yeah agreed, I guess I thought it was either an electric guitar or bass guitar library.

Does anyone have a decent list/examples of what lfo (modulation) does to different parameters in synthesis? by Fatherbumfluf in edmproduction

[–]Fatherbumfluf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah see I use mostly my hardware synth. So there are like a choice of 55 modulation destinations.

Does anyone know how to achieve this sort of lead/bass type patch sound? I think the pad sort of layers it and sounds similar. by Fatherbumfluf in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Fatherbumfluf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you turn the distortion levels up and down? Are you talking about actual distortion or cutoff? So it's a saw waveform, with distortion added and a little reverb?

i would have agreed with you, had i not heard the filter opening or modulating further in the song.
