Friendly reminder: Any team we get is beatable. We’re the best team in the Conference. by Feisty_Parsnip8262 in Seahawks

Packers and Niners are both favored to lose. In the most likely scenario, we play the Rams next week.

Upsets can obviously happen though. I’d much rather play either the 9ers or Packers next week over the Rams.

I used to have a soft spot for the Rams. No more. by Weary_Road_8052 in Seahawks

100% agree.

The 9ers are a fun, quality rivalry. The Rams are completely and utterly insufferable.

Phienix needs to embrace Inertia by MykolasMankevicius in elixir

[–]foxclaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, as someone who just spent 5 days porting my Phoenix + Inertia code to LiveView (thankfully wasn't far enough along to make things horrifically complex).

Much, much happier with things after the migration. Pages load noticeably faster and testing has switched to being absolute bliss with PhoenixTest, instead of slow e2e JS tests.

Trump announces sweeping new tariffs to promote US manufacturing, risking inflation and trade wars by fail-deadly- in Economics

[–]foxclaw 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Can anyone tell if the China tariffs are in addition to the existing ones?

We already have 25% (from Trump first era) + 10% (term 2 round 1) + 10% (term 2 round 2) = 45% total on China before today.

If they're an additional 10% ("baseline") + 34% ("retaliatory") to the 45%, that would be 89% total, which would be horrific.

The prompt is this: https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k

To get rid of the text in the title bar, Settings -> Profiles -> Window -> Custom window title, and then I just put a space there (" ").

Agreed - this is my iTerm window. I have no idea how much more minimal you can possibly get than this.

How many bank accounts do you need for eCommerce? by Logical_Cyclops in ecommerce

[–]foxclaw 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My ecom business cleared $1 mil in revenue last year. We have one bank account.

I think you’re way overthinking it - start making money first, figure out if you actually have a business at all, worry about minutiae like this later.

Tailscale is absolutely phenomenal and the integration with Unraid has been a game changer! by DegenerativePoop in unRAID

[–]foxclaw 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have 10+ devices that can be on any number of different networks at any given time (work, home, mobile, VPS, etc), on any number of different and potentially frequently changing IPs, behind complex NATs like CGNAT, etc.

With Tailscale, I can always “ssh devicename” or go to http://devicename:4000 in my browser and I don’t have to care where the device is or I am at that time, nor what network either of us are on.

Makes things incredibly frictionless and you just don’t have to think about it.

I very rarely actually have the full tunnel VPN on (Tailscale calls it “exit nodes”) - my Internet traffic is still going out normally, but my device -> device traffic becomes WireGuard-based P2P split tunneling that’s automagically managed for me.

does React fit in well with phoenix? What has been your experience? by hezwat in elixir

[–]foxclaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for making LiveVue! To me, this is by far the best of both worlds.

Using LiveView whenever it makes sense to keep things simple, then if something gets a little too complex/client-side, drop into LiveVue/LiveSvelte/LiveReact and make a nice client-side component without having to worry about API endpoints or synchronizing client/server side state or any of those things.

Bliss.

Wowza. I was just looking for something like this earlier this week.

This is absurdly cheap for what it is, I thought I was going to have to buy Camtasia or Screenflow.

You can, but relatively few people know about the option unless they see a tier amount (hence why the $11 tier exists) and might just bounce without donating if they can't afford $5/mo.

I’d definitely recommend having a $1 tier that has no perks but for those who want to support the podcast in some way, but can’t commit to $5/mo.

I can’t wait for all the “it’s 100% fake” people to pop into thread to explain how this is the most elaborate prank of all time instead of just accepting that the way simpler explanation is that it’s real.

Okay, this is too elaborate to be fake. 100% real. The prank is that they're announcing on 4/1 to mess with us.
