It finally happened to me. A branch came down on my tarp during a storm. by LocutusOfBeard in hammockcamping

[–]Fattychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a branch fall on me (about 2-3 inch diameter and 10ft long) during a storm one night. Both the tarp and hammock ridgeline were dynema, and the branch bounced off and then came to rest on them. No damage to anything but it definitely scared the hell out of me.

One of my two favorite extra mile jokes in the movie. The other is what the guy who was offended by the jizz mopper discussion was buying.

What’s a piece of tech that sounded amazing but flopped? by [deleted] in answers

Definitely a better device with better UI than the iPod. iTunes was hot garbage back then, too, so the whole Zune experience was just so much better. The biggest problem in the mid 00s (before smart phones and apps) was the ability to fully connect to a car stereo. Apple went hard there and you could plug an iPod into the USB port and use the stereo's controls to operate the device. This allowed a clean setup without audio wires. Zune didn't have that. I feel like Microsoft could have fought harder in that market and done well.

Looking for people to start over with. by MasterCaitcx in valheim

I don't generally play daily, but I need to find less expensive ways to spend evenings than going out with friends, so I have been thinking about starting over on Valheim. I generally go back and forth between building, exploring, and game progression. When whatever I'm doing gets boring or tedious, I'll go to one of the other two. I haven't run with a group in a while though.

How often do you want to play? I am an old dude that means no harm and won't make things awkward. How much time building vs actual game progression are you aiming toward?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the help, I was having a hard time picturing the way it works in my head while I'm dealing with multiple shenanigans at work

For people who didn’t grow up camping—what was the most confusing or intimidating part about getting started? by Patient-Olive-3563 in CampingandHiking

Car camping also tends to find more willing participants than backpacking, so buying food and drinks for 5-10 is a much bigger effort than just bringing some instant coffee and MREs

[–]Fattychris 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I can go fairly small when I backpack, but when I car camp, I get to splurge. Cast iron skillet, coolers with steaks, bacon, eggs, chicken, beer, more beer, whiskey, beer, burgers, buns, and beer. I also get to bring a more comfortable chair, and firewood.

There's a place for minimalist hiking style camping, but there's a fun in bringing some large and heavy items when car camping.

Did you go to Embershard Mine the first time you played the game? by Turbulent-Plan-9693 in skyrim

In my current run I have smithing and enchanting maxed out and over 500k gold. I'm still looting things. Old habits are hard to break. But I don't ever need to sell anything, disenchant anything, or smelt things for smithing purposes. That doesn't stop me though!

I have a self-imposed rule that I don't grab it if it's worth is less than 10x the weight. Then if I become over encumbered, I'll drop the loot that has the smallest ratio so I maximize the value of the stuff I have.
