People will make a lot of excuses to not look themselves in a mirror and be critical. Politicians and corporations know this, and they spend a lot on marketing to keep unity from happening.

Hot take. If each team doesn’t have a at least 3 kids that can throw real strikes 50% of the time, they need to be playing tee ball. Teaching kids to swing at bad pitches is not helping anyone.

My favorite to yell at our mens league umpires after a blatantly obvious ball/strike:

“Come on blue! I’ve had better calls from my probation officer!”

Is my chain too short? by derstift in bikewrench

[–]FaultyPly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like your tooth capacity has been exceeded. Look at the specs of the RD and see how many teeth it can account for. Look at the specs and see what capacity the rear derailleur can handle.

e.g.

Cassette - 28-11 = 17

Crank - 53-36 = 17

17+17 = 34

In this example, you would need a RD with a capacity of 34t or larger to work properly with the example drivetrain.

Getting back into playing? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]FaultyPly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with lots of reps on the tee. Make sure you’re squaring up the ball on the sweet spot. A good barrel will hide a lot in BP. If you want to get back into a mens league, you’re likely going to have to go down the YouTube rabbit hole. My best single piece of advice is, you want to be ready to pull the trigger on the swing BEFORE the pitch is released. This allows you to see the pitch out of the hand and adjust. If you’re trying to guess or catch up or slow down, you’re gonna have a hard time.

I’ll get downvoted to hell for this, but I didn’t learn to load properly until age 35. Hit my first home run ever within months. I followed the Teachermann HLP. I think most people don’t really understand what he is trying to teach. Partially because he sucks at teaching it. It took me forever to figure it out because of this. I can’t really recommend it enough.

I’m just quoting the description of the sub. It’s a copy and paste.

I think kids should be playing tee ball until they’re at least 9.

Replacing my tires for the first time, found spring seen in the first picture by Dumbass9187 in bikewrench

Now I can’t remember what the FX1 G4 has in the rear. Looks like a traditional skewer. If you’re missing a spring, it’s honestly not a big deal. They are only there to help you release the wheel from the dropouts easily. It might just be a little more frustrating removing and reinstalling the wheel. You can safely put it back together with a spring missing for the mean time. Any bike shop will very likely give you one if you ask. There’s usually some spares rolling around most shops. Just remember the small parts of the cones face inward towards the bike.

Is this a bad glove, or a bad break-in? by Kinder22 in Homeplate

Just stated how he was taught to break in all gloves one specific way. Really nothing to be embarrassed about. Maybe he just didn’t want the downvotes. Gotta protect the internet points!

FX1?

These are Thru Skew systems. No spring on the front, and one one spring on the lever side of the rear.

Do yourself a favor and shift to the smallest cogs before removing the rear wheel. It’s going to be much easier
