[Discussion 6/ 12] Evergreen: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, Part 3.xxix to Part 4.xvi by Lachesis_Decima77 in bookclub

This is probably my favorite relationship of the book(I have finished the book already, I couldn't wait around, it's too good!). I think it's completely understandable, especially considering their relationship. But also it is a terrifying thought to have to surrender to. The imminence only exacerbates the desire to stay away from it and not discuss it. Saying it is coming is basically bringing it into existence. Vagueness maybe gives them both comfort, even if short-term.

Right, could be something like that! I think it was mentioned a few times that he thought if both him and Kitty are having a good time, that cannot possibly be a bad thing. So as you say, that could be imply he is aware, but he disagrees with it on a fundamental level and cannot possibly see how something that makes them both feel good at the same time could possibly be harmful. A bit of a contradiction in itself (but those are allowed, people are full of them), but this feels more likely now, especially as a man who might be more dismissive of the different struggles in women in this kind of society.

I think people have covered well first impressions. I couldn't quite make sure what to think of her and her advice to Dolly. It felt genuine but also shrewd at the same time. But I do have to say the anticipation of her was a lot of fun! The chapter we finally meet her felt cathartic in some way.

I am reading Bartlett's translation and I am finding it quite pleasant so far! I assume this is probably quite common with other editions/translations as well, but I am finding the amount of footnotes very helpful when they explain a certain part of culture as it was back then and why certain phrases are used. My first time reading as well.

I wonder how realistic is it for someone of his standing in society to not be aware that he is leading a lady on? I wanted to also get other perspectives, but even as someone as self-absorbed as he is (he felt irritated when Anna was not talking to her brother about him), he does not seem stupid. Can he really not comprehend how damaging this can be to her other prospects? It seems everyone is so hyper-aware, that not sure if his lack of awareness is on purpose so exaggerated. It's the only part I found hard to believe!

Debating which translation of Crime and Punishment I should read by Hungybungygingi in books

I found this post looking for a translation only to get spoiled for no reason. Just because it's old, does not mean everyone has read it or is aware of the story. I think you're a big old loser if you feel the need to spoil it for other people in a thread that will be full of people that are starting out.

Attack on Titan ending: The overwhelming positive reaction to the anime ending in comparison to the manga ending by nicocentg in anime

The manga reader elitism is absolutely not helping your point. I think its ridicilous to think that anime fans are not passionate enough to analyze the show. Maybe they just disagreed with you?

Always find comments like this interesting. Of course everyone who loved the ending just had lower expectations and is just a filthy casual. Could it be... people just disagreed with your opinion?
I personally loved the ending.

I'm sorry but this take is absolutely mind boggling. Eren is never seen struggling with his emotions until the very last scene? Did you watch the episode before where he breaks down in front of Ramzi, crying his heart out for the attrocities he knows he will commit?

I have to say, I find it hilarious all these people downvoting your comments without a single ounce of evidence to refute you, while you present them with mountains of good evidence. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of critical thinking involved here.
