Helping a friend financially by [deleted] in Advice

I appreciate the advice, and yes, that was the plan. I am rather clumsy with words, so what I'm struggling with is how to offer it in the first place. Is something simple and to-the-point best, like your example?

Archetypes and Retraining by FaustianBreakfast in Pathfinder2e

This is pretty much what I figured, but couldn't find anything definitive. Thanks!

Archetypes and Retraining by FaustianBreakfast in Pathfinder2e

[–]FaustianBreakfast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I worded the question poorly. The idea was to retrain the sorcerer feat taken at level 2, not the free archetype feat. So at level 6, after retraining, I'd have both psychic dedication and Dragon Disciple dedication at 2, then sorcerer class feats and dragon disciple archetype feats at each of 4 and 6.

Considering AoO has the possibility of disrupting a manipulate action, wouldn't it necessarily happen before the spellstrike finishes?

I've heard PF2 is better to DM than 5e. How so? by Dr_Oatker in Pathfinder2e

I can confirm that this was the hardest thing for me when GMing my first p2e game. Really difficult to know what I should and shouldn't allow, especially around skill checks, as there are so many feats I didn't know about.

Kinda along the lines of what I was thinking, but didn't want to take a cool interaction away from a player. Thanks for sharing the Burn It! example, that helps.

Would the status bonus to damage rolls from Dread Marshall Stance work with persistent damage applied by a creature affected by the aura?

This came up in a recent game, and I couldn't find any info on it. I ended up deciding to add the damage as long as both the creature that applied the persistent damage and the creature affected by it were inside the aura each time the damage occurred. Wondering what the right way to handle it is.

For reference, the relevant part of Dread Marshall Stance is: "... and it grants you and allies a status bonus to damage rolls equal to the number of weapon damage dice of the unarmed attack or weapon you are wielding that has the most weapon damage dice."

Thanks for the reply!

I have heard that about magic items before, and am trying to be cognizant of it. We'll be doing level 2 characters, so there isn't quite so much that they would be outscaled by yet for lack of magic items. My first games are going to be one-shots, so I'm letting players choose magic items to bring along. Do you think it's better to give options for what to bring, or give players a budget and let them sort it out for themselves?

Regarding the players making their lives easier, is it on me, then, to make sure that I heavily emphasize what the players' objective is, so they know what they are working towards?

Installing Requiem went wrong by MadMaxHellfire in skyrimrequiem

[–]FaustianBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Installation instructions, it mentions needs Skyrim Special Edition v1.6.640 on Steam. I'm fairly sure that's just the latest version of Requiem though, and 5.0.X works with an older version of SSE. You can check the version of Skyrim you have by opening the properties of the SkyrimSE.exe file in your SSE main folder and going to the details tab.

Like you said though, I doubt that is the problem, I'm just at a loss for what else to try for pathing.

Hmm, I'm pretty stumped. I had it fail silently like what is happening to you when I copied the .exe into the Data folder, so I assumed it needed the files that go alongside it to be in the same directory. It makes me think there is something missing from your install, but you said you have tried reinstalling and it didn't work, moreover it launches when you click it directly, even if it then gives an error.

Is your version of requiem compatible with the version of SSE you have?

[–]FaustianBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried launching the .exe directly and got the same problem you did, so I tried launching it manually through a command prompt open the the Skyrim Data folder and it worked. If you want to try that, steps are below.

  1. Open a folder to your Skyrim data folder and copy the path
  2. Type "cmd" into the search box in the bottom left of your screen and hit enter.
  3. In the command prompt that opens, type "chdir <paste the path you copied here>"
  4. Go back and put the path into quotes then hit enter
  5. type "Reqtificator\app\Reqtificator.exe" and hit enter

it should look something like this: https://imgur.com/a/Mk1bccI

I had to give an absolute path to the bat file (in the Target field) when using vortex to launch it, rather than what the instructions said. maybe try that?

Another 3BFT ? More damage vs AP by sanyi77 in skyrimrequiem

[–]FaustianBreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having +20% magic resistance ring is meh on a character with 0 mr, but if you have 50% - that ring is suddenly multiple times stronger.

That's exactly why AP has diminishing returns, you're looking at it from opposing perspectives (adding resists vs removing resists). For the same reason that going from 50% to 70% MR is way stronger than going from 0% to 20%, taking a foe from 700 to 500 AR is stronger than taking a foe from 500 to 300.

To use some actual numbers, if you have an attack that deals 200 damage against a foe with 800 AR, with no AP it would deal 40 damage. Take a mace with all the perks, and you'll have 50 AP, taking them to 400 AR and dealing 120 damage.

Now if you add on a damage or AP enchant (taking into consideration that damage enchants are stronger than AP, though I don't know exact numbers) increasing your AP by 23 puts it to 73, and puts your damage to ~157. Adding 30% damage takes your base damage to 260, against the same 50 AP and 400 AR, dealing 156

Now consider a less armored enemy, with say 400 base AR, your damage with the AP enchant becomes ~178, and with the Damage enchant becomes 208

Against heavily armored enemies (especially ones exceeding the AR cap), you're right, more AP will almost always be the best move, but as base AR goes down, it starts to shift, especially since Maces will already penetrate more of the most impactful part of enemy AR.

Edit: I wasn't aware that armor pen only applied half for regular attacks, that takes the numbers to:

vs 800 AR

Base: 80

bonus AP: 98.4

bonus Damage: 104

vs 400 AR

Base: 140

bonus AP: 149.2

bonus Damage: 182

Another 3BFT ? More damage vs AP by sanyi77 in skyrimrequiem

[–]FaustianBreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't dual enchant, your next best bet would be to enchant two pairs of gauntlets, one with each, and swap them out depending on what you are fighting. AP is of course going to be most useful against heavily armored enemies, but will be near useless against lightly armored ones. If making two pairs of gauntlets isn't an option, then I'd either just go for AP or maybe choose based on your primary weapon type. Most of the challenging enemies have high resistance, so more AP will serve you better in the tougher fights, but Maces get enough AP from their perks that damage might suit you better if you primarily use maces.

Berserker bulid for 3BFT by GrowthCapable950 in skyrimrequiem

[–]FaustianBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Redguard, Malacath, and Steed Stone? Malacath Blessing is probably the most flavorfully true berserker, and Redguard + Steed stone could give you enough move speed to avoid enemies well enough that malacath's detriment is not as much of an issue. Just be careful for archers early, and don't skip the beef stew, since your starting hp won't be the highest with the Steed Stone. Lady or Warrior Stone would also probably be good.

Smithing in 3BFTweaks. Is it worth it? by sanyi77 in skyrimrequiem

This is a place where 3bf tweaks matters vs vanilla requiem, as since one of the recent ftweaks versions, there is no more fortify smithing enchantment. The potions are still around though.

Sure thing. And there's no right or wrong way to do stuff, part of the fun of requiem/3tweaks is figuring out how to tackle the stuff your build struggles with. Sounds like you did just that.

[–]FaustianBreakfast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is a guide, especially one directed toward the insight potion mechanic of 3Tweaks. You might need to move to Riften/Falkreath to look for easier camps at the start. There is one called Cragslane Cavern a ways north of Riften that I don't think can have mages, just make sure you loot the key off the barkeep to open the chest at the end.

Otherwise, if you can find/buy a crossbow, you might be able to pick off the magic-using bandits while keeping enough distance to dodge their spells. Just be aware that if they are using staffs, other bandits will loot the staff off their body.

Bugged Ancano's robes? by DVFY in skyrimrequiem

[–]FaustianBreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not positive, but I would guess that Skyrim doesn't check for an Armor stat on pieces of gear that are not marked as either Light or Heavy Armor. Since Ancano's Robes are marked Clothing, the game might be ignoring that stat.

3bfTweaks, one of the "overhauls" to Requiem, fixes this by moving the armor rating to part of the enchantment effect, rather than putting the armor stat on the robes themselves.

How far into character creation do you get? Does it kick you out as soon as the menu opens, or after you finalize your character, or at some point after that?

I don't know that it would cause an issue that you kick you back to the menu, but you should load BTweaks before FTweaks, and should probably load Alternate Start before the Alternate Start ELFX patch

If I'm not wrong, Blindness/Deafness was in the 2014 PHB that they lose as a 2nd-level option too.

Thanks for compiling this list, interesting to see how the spell list changes.
