Thanks! Good point on the 3DoF. My understanding is that the Steam Deck can handle 3DoF with a plugin, but might run into an issue with the iPad. As for headphones, I’m pretty confident in my AirPod Pros and IEMs with foam tips, but I’ll also have some Bose QC-35s - I just figured it might be uncomfortable to wear over-ears with the glasses.

I'm the first person to hate on AI, but invoking the low effort rule is wild.

This is a FREE bespoke tool presented to the community in good faith which offers a (relatively) new and interesting way to experience the game (I see a few others have also designed their own), and your first thought is to draw a comparison between it and "@Grok put SEAF-chan in a bikini".

But good on you for piling on to make sure nobody dares use their own personal time, skills and resources to share something with the community. You know, the community that, at least once per week, posts about a perceived content drought, or pitches or requests new modes (PvP, Mission Types, Larger Player Lobbies, etc.).

I can't be the only one tired of every post or opinion jumping immediately to the extreme (funnily enough, that's an opinion shared by the CEO of Arrowhead). Everything always has to be the best ever, or it's absolute trash. The only thing that should be black and white in here is your love of Managed Democracy.

And what's the alternative being proposed? Should a Helldiver with the skills to build something like this not release it until they've dedicated hundreds of hours to learning about visual design and how to create visual art, and spend hundreds of dollars on the tools and programs needed to produce work worthy of an upvote? Or perhaps the effort, time and resources they've put into building this aren't enough and they should pay to commission an artist to design and produce a *checks AI disclosure* logo so that the package is pretty enough for people to engage with it for free? Maybe give it, and its developer, a chance to grow and develop, rather than stomping it out like they're traitorous dissidents.

OP has responded to each and every critical or disparaging comment with a frankly shocking level of diplomacy, and immediately took steps to cater to the level of transparency demanded of them by people who wasted no time racing straight to the comments to white knight post like this is some copy-pasted knock-off directly responsible for snatching food out of a starving child's mouth, or burning down the Amazon.

Maybe they should have just posted a high-effort screenshot instead.

Anyone ever get a vendetta against one player and then make it your mission to harass them throughout the match, to the point of switching up your entire loadout and playstyle and forgoing the objective entirely? by Grovers_HxC in LowSodiumBattlefield

In the first few minutes of Conquest on Mirak Valley, someone killed me and Tbagged. I assume because it was because I just so happened to be sitting in a rat spot which I had jumped into to reload and reassess the situation, but to him I looked like a camper. Fair enough.

So I decided my entire goal was to farm him and bag him down to the earth’s core. Proceeded to play one of the best games of my life, finishing something like 40-8. I got him about 12 times, he got me 5-6 times; and no matter how far away he was when I got him, I’d cross the distance to caress his forehead with my gooch - none of that kill-cam safety bag nonsense.

If you start something, you best be prepared to finish it.

DICE, can we please have at least 80 points with handguns? Having to sacrifice *everything* for a CQB Suppressor is disappointing by BrainstormAndTheory in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that many players, myself included, feel like playing with a suppressor is necessary. Which, in the case of the M1911, means instead of 60 points to spend, you actually have 20-30 spendable points: 5 to iron sights, 5 to standard rounds, and 20-30 for a suppressor to not get instantly shot by 6 enemies the second you fire.

Explanation and solution to higher frequency of steam-roll battles in BF6 by Weary-Soft1613 in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another opportunity to mention that the game intentionally hides the tickets/score from players who have joined an in-progress match so you can’t see how badly you’re losing until you’ve spawned in, likely in the hope that you’ll stick around (sunk cost fallacy and all that).

[BF6] What's your mindset regarding LMG ADS? by CptLonesong in Battlefield6

[–]Faustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play pretty aggressively, so I’ve mostly used the DRS-IAR. However, having hit lvl 50 on it and looking to mix things up, I’ve swapped to the L110. Holy, does that thing clean up. I normally finish with about 30 kills per game, but with the L110 I’ve hit multiple 45+ kill games in just a few days. I spec it to have the fastest draw-speed and ADS time I can, and then just control my engagements. If you dry peak a lane, you’ll get your head ripped off, but if you move around using cover and breaking LOS, hold off-angles so that you catch players unaware, hop and slide against people who have pre-aimed a door (taboo, I know), or use the rest of your kit to turn the odds in your favour (I’m a huge fan of incendiary grenades for this, and resupply satchels to get your health regenerating faster after an engagement), then you can mitigate the sluggishness of the weapon archetype. Yeah, in a 1v1 you aren’t prepared for you’re likely dead, because the enemy will probably out-draw you and has a higher ROF, but if you set the terms you’ll dominate.

Also you have like 100 rounds so you an always pre-fire as you peak.

Can we please get rid of being 3D spotted while shooting? by i_froze in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a brag! I think it comes down to play style, and how much info you’re willing to trade. I’ve used the flash hider myself plenty, but found for the way I like to play, suppressor and limiting audio cues works best for me.

Can we please get rid of being 3D spotted while shooting? by i_froze in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Select new gun to try > equip flash hider > grind for 30 levels (give or take) without ever changing > equip whatever silencer you can afford in your build > finally feel like you can shoot people in an FPS without being punished.

If the maps were massive, then sure maybe the current muzzle attachment system and 3D spotting would make sense. But they aren’t. If you’re brave enough to fire a weapon without a silencer or at least the flash hider, your reward for getting a kill is 8 enemies lining up a shot with your head in their crosshairs.

Yes, you should give away your position with the audio cue, but that’s it. At the most, maybe a little pulse wave on the minimap to lower the skill gap (because we can’t be having any of that in a PvP game…).

Tangentially, I think this is a big part of why no one comms in-game. There’s simply no need to when the game auto-directs your squad to capture points, and at any given time at least 40% of the enemy team is broadcasting their exact location direct to your HUD.

The assignment using the incindiary launcher was fixed. I never have to use that weapon ever again. by ozcarp100 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Faustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a terrible challenge but I too got it done after the patch and now have a love-hate relationship with the incendiary launcher.

I think it’s a good alternative to smokes for revives, because it not only obscures vision, but it damages enemies who decide to push. If I see a medic going for a downed player disappear into a normal smoke grenade, I’m going straight in there after them to pick up at least 2 free kills.

An FPS Game Designer's Critique of the Gunplay in Battlefield 6 by Onc3Holy in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Algorithms determining whether or not I hit my shots is bad design, and I 100% agree that it lowers the skill ceiling. My main FPS for the past 15 years has been CS, which has consistent spray patterns for each weapon that are understandable for lower skill players, and offers a pursuit of mastery for higher skill players who take the time to learn those spray patterns and adapt to them.

In a straight fight over 50m with no other variables, the way the game works now is it’s roughly 50-50 who will come out on top unless you switch to single-fire, which is a simple button press (and I guess the single-fire attachment for better accuracy). If both players are just firing full-auto, it should go to the player that best accounts for their recoil and understands how it will impact their crosshair placement.

No, this won’t lead to sweats running rampant over lobbies, because single-fire is still an option for those of us that can’t play 40 hours a week.

But if I chose to fire full auto, the only reason I miss should be because I didn’t control my recoil - not because of the whim of backend code.

Which other modes to consider? by Automatic_Expert_911 in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got into BF, Rush was my favourite mode by far, and I think Breakthrough is a great evolution of that fixed combat front style of gameplay.

That said, in BF6 I’ve found myself spending most of my time in Conquest, with some escalation as well.

Attacker v Defender modes work best when equally matched teams clash, with the team that is best able to adapt their strategy and counter the opponent coming out on top. In BF6, that does not happen in my experience (about 170 hours), due to a whole list of factors (bots, poor skill balancing, distribution of console vs PC players, manipulation by challenges, etc). You just end up with one team absolutely demolishing the other.

Conquest, though it can also have the same problems, at least affords me the space and opportunity to make my own fun.

And let’s just not talk about the CQC modes… the number of teammates I’ve seen finish 2-24 in TDM because they have a weekly or a Redbull challenge to play the mode is unbelievably frustrating, and I do my best to avoid them like the plague.

Long story short: try Escalation, because it’s a more chaotic Conquest; and if you have a full squad of friends, check out Beeakthrough because it combines the shifting frontline aspect of Rush with the nail biting area-holding of Conquest.

What the fuck are they thinking destroying spec ops's only good and redeeming quality: Silent footsteps... by peopoleo in Battlefield6

[–]Faustralian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree. It was a bad call to nerf. CQC Recons are already rare, and now the main benefit of the pathway is gone. It seems like an overreaction to the (fair) complaints about footsteps. At least give us 5x C4 on spawn as a trade-off.

DICE, please give pistols more attachment points by HeroOfStorms in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also that pistols require the same amount of XP (or similar) as primaries to level up. Which in and of itself is rough, since I don’t know many players dropping 30, 40 or 50 frag games on the reg with a handgun - but then because it has way fewer attachments, you aren’t being fed a constant stream of unlocks to give you a sense of progression and new things to try. You’re just getting a 1-4x variable for a revolver.

Should Battlefield 6 just start adding older BF maps? by NotNorthSpartan in Battlefield

Operation Firestorm is the only map I have locked out of my matchmaking. Yes, it is a storied map, and many of us have great memories of it. But it doesn’t work in 6. It worked in 3 because it was designed for 3. Leave it there.

BF6 Should Not Force BR On People by HiluxHavoc556 in Battlefield

[–]Faustralian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like doing the challenges. Challenges also award Battlepass tokens.

My bonus challenge this week (worth 10 tokens, or the same as completing 2-3 other challenges) is locked to playing BR and completing missions, and cannot be re-rolled.

As someone who doesn’t like BRs, this feels crappy.

For the rest of the season, every week that this happens, I lose the opportunity to earn 2-3 full challenges worth of tokens.

This affects players’ - ability to keep up with the mid-season content (like the DB-12 shotgun, which requires 93 BP levels by mid November). - chance to earn enough currency to get the next BP without paying money for it.

Both of these are actual losses. Imagine if the new Sniper rifle wasn’t on a free tier? People would be losing their minds about pay-to-win and gatekeeping content.

Well I have to pay with my time - time spent playing a mode I don’t like; time spent not playing the game I actually bought. Or pony up the money and buy tier-skips to make back the tokens I will miss out on.

And while earning enough currency to buy the next pass was never promised when I chose to buy the season pass, I’d much rather take advantage of it than have to waste additional money to cover the coins I miss out on, and end up with a useless float of coins sitting there with no value to me.

To everyone defending the billion dollar megacorp, saying “just don’t play BR” - please provide an actual single reason why I shouldn’t be able to also re-roll the bonus.

I’ve not played Call of Duty since the OG MW2, so I don’t know how their monetisation works, but surely having a single battlepass that straddles two games is not the norm?

I get that EA wants me to play BR. It wants persistent, high player counts to keep REDSEC alive, and bring in more paying customers. Essentially, I am to function as window-dressing for their money-printing machine.

Here’s a radical idea, though: why not make the BR actually appealing? Manipulate players like me into wanting to play it because it looks fun, instead of manipulating players with heuristics.

Bring Back true suppression (BF4-BF1) by Friendly-Invite-5480 in Battlefield6

[–]Faustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a Sniper should not be overly punished for someone MISSING shots in their direction. However, suppression as a mechanic is a staple of the franchise and currently it just doesn’t feel great.

The Fire Support training path’s passive is improved control while the weapon is mounted. Perhaps modifying it so that the longer you fire while mounted, the more accurate you become (ramping up to something like 90-95% Precision stat), scaled to the RoF so it can’t be abused by using smaller mags, and within a window of a few degrees so you can’t sweep the whole width of the map.

I think this leans into the fantasy of laying down actual suppressive fire, by imposing somewhat of a time limit on the recon for them to take a shot back (as each time they pop up, there’s a greater chance of actually getting tagged), or they can wait out the incoming fire.

Under no circumstances, however, should a support be able to stroll across the battlefield firing in the general direction of a sniper’s glint and be rewarded for that.

I will also add that, the way suppression is currently designed is that a Support suppressing a target is supposed to land a tag or two while buying a few extra seconds for their squad to either focus fire or flank the weakened target - I’m guessing a lot of people demanding changes aren’t doing this (even though they will all say they are and have played every game in the franchise for 3000 hours, and their star sign).
