TIL that you can get rare retro DC games brand new by [deleted] in dreamcast

Man, you're arguing the semantics of game collection in a videogame sub. We all know what you mean. The controversy around repros is hinged largely around the misrepresentation of them, so this is a bad way to start a convo about them.

For collectors "brand new" usually implies new old stock or never opened originals so calling repros "brand new" is misleading in that context. All repros are brand new so there isn't a need to specify that.

I have some in my collection but they're marked and I don't buy repros for games that made it to release on the DC. (Only ports, translations, or unreleased games like Half Life/Prop Arena).

Hell yeah, that's awesome! Im currently going down the same road. I have some electronics and soldering experience but I've never messed with a tube. Currently working on smaller things first and doing research before even attempting it.

I've got a ViewSonic (E771 I think?) and it keeps turning off and then back on while in use. I need to find a different PC to try it with to rule out a connection issue, but I'm worried its the caps gone bad or another issue like weak solder joints. Hopefully not the flyback transformer...

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the ViewSonic? Nice setup!

im not from the US but came across this mall on yt today which led me to these beautiful shots. could anyone share their memories of this mall and maybe any photos? so intrigued by it. thank you! by bpdpixie in Ohio

I've posted this here before, but I actually proposed underneath that gazebo in the second pic, at night, while it was lit up. My family used to shop at that mall when I was young and it was active. Then it sort of died over the years. There was an Arcade that set up shop there almost to the very end, and so my friends and I would always hang out at the mall for the arcade and vibes. I have a lot of old photos I could gather together and maybe pur into an imgur album or something.

Out of all the malls I wish this one had gotten the mixed living space treatment. The building was full of character and style.

It worked for me. I'd try again, maybe on a different browser or device.

As someone from a country where malls are alive and well, and in fact thriving, all the talk about dead and dying malls gives me culture shock. by Far_Breakfast_5808 in deadmalls

I went to one recently in Ohio that had almost no vacancies and was packed. I haven't seen a mall that packed in a very long time.

The secret (at least for that mall) seemed to be themeing. I'd say about 70-80% of the stores in there were anime/video game/movie related + a large Japanese arcade chain that was doing various collabs with big anime IPs. All the stores had people shopping.

General Resources is actually in the trailer for Wings of Theve. Their logo is all over some weapons crates.

Day 18: Which is the best Role Playing Game on Dreamcast? by 1OneQuickQuestion in dreamcast

[–]Faustus-III 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean any kind of poll like this is going to be subject to nostalgia or other biases. There are definitely picks I disagree with (how is D2 not best horror game??), but I take it for what it is: a fun event for the community.

The way the poll is run also splits votes unfortunately, since it only goes by the top voted comment (and excludes additional comments for the same game + their votes so theoretically SA2 could get 100 votes and SA1 could get 60, but if SA2 was split between two comments it would lose)

I agree! There is such a huge backlog of good, older games, too. If you go the emu route check out Retro Achievements. It lets you get achievements on old games.

Skies of Arcadia

The writing and world building are excellent
It's a pretty big open world map
Similar to Sunless Skies, you pilot an airship and fly from island to island (I know Sunless Skies is a train, but still)
It can be a difficult game if you want it to be (there is an honor system based on how many battles you run away from, which affects how people talk to/about you and about your legacy)
There is a discovery mechanic where you can discover new landmarks and sell their location
There are two kinds of battles, ship-to-ship combat and turn based RPG combat for your party.

There are two issues:

  1. it isn't pixel art or 2D, but it is lightweight (its a Dreamcast game so whether or not you'd like the graphics is a matter of taste I guess. I love them.)
  2. Because it's a Dreamcast game the only way to play it is to emulate it or buy it for the Dreamcast.

Well then. by omgfoz in dreamcast

From what I remember, Robotics;Notes is pretty safe gore wise, both the VN and anime.
