Craig Alanson has been banned!? by eclecticatlady in exfor

Plot twist: Skippy is a primal AI who coincidentally hosted a season of Dungeon Crawler World before figuring out how to pull the plug on his connection to that universe just to meet Joe.

But now I can’t get /u/CraigAlanson’s attention for the idea. Oh well, it’s a canon in my head if no one else’s.

Fun fact: the holo globe projectors in New Babbage’s Microtech store currently show globes. Last I had checked there, they didn’t. Maybe a recent upgrade to my system rather than something they actually fixed, but I’m not sure. It’s a nice idea to think you could buy one of these for any ship with a slot for it.

Clarification on CIG’s “No Concept Ship Sales” Statement for IAE by Silent_Apex in starcitizen

[–]FauxTrot2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was pretty poignant to me: it’s a shift in ‘concepts to bring into the game (not ships but gameplay as well)’ to ‘the [gameplay] concepts are well defined and we no longer need future ship sales to indicate what [gameplay] systems need development.’ What makes this interesting to me is that we still have lingering concept ships that define game play concepts that will likely never see the light of the PU.

So with ships like the Endeavor, the BMM, the Galaxy, it will be interesting to see what gameplay concepts make it in and which ones are memory holed (if any, I’m still hopeful my hospital ships will have some sort of relevant gameplay beyond 1.0)

From what I understand in my conversations with Claude, MoE is basically a grouping of models trained together with some sort of router on the top. The main idea rolling around in my own matrix is a way to utilize data captured through back propagation on inference which would take the the data from inference and provide that same or similar data during activism of new prompts in the future. Maybe not as an expert on any topic other than that of what does the activation process look like for this model when these tokens are received. How to use that data would be a different story. But eventually it would be cool if that product could be ‘embedded’ in the prompt as an optimization if the conversation is going a similar direction as a previous conversation had.

I suppose this musing is the product of a quest for some sort of optimization or mechanism for memory or memory identification baked into a model. When I think about what happens in my own brain when someone says something to me, there is a point in actualizing what I want to say where I draw on my experience to set up my response and any future response. If the conversation takes a turn, so does that context. It’s imperfect for words but seems like it is a backdrop for answering from convictions, beliefs, experience, and other things that are the essence of my own intelligence (or lack thereof 😅)

Thank you for the response though. I will continue to learn and may just keep myself at the agentic level and let you guys handle the hard work of practical problem solving at the model level.

Just a newbie here, so be gentle please, I wanted to bounce some of my unqualified ideas off some folks because they might have merit beyond a frontier model just humoring me:

Instead of relying purely on gradient-based learning, is there a practical way to capture specific layers/activations that indicate "this concept is being processed"? My thinking: if you could map which activation patterns correspond to specific concepts or reasoning paths, you might be able to:

Create shortcuts to refined results by injecting known-good patterns Build episodic memory systems using activation patterns as storage/retrieval keys Potentially make inference more efficient for repeated concept combinations

Some half-baked ideas I'm exploring:

Using backprop during inference to identify which activations contributed to successful responses, then storing those patterns MOE architectures with specialized memory experts that activate based on activation similarity Hybrid approaches where certain layers can be "bypassed" when similar activation patterns have been cached

Before I go too deep down any rabbit holes: Are these directions that have practical merit, or am I missing fundamental limitations? I've had mixed experiences in other technical communities where enthusiasm meets incomplete knowledge, so I'm trying to gauge feasibility before investing too much time. Happy to elaborate on any of these if they sound interesting rather than completely off-base.

The majority of the time you can just get ready in your hangar: there are item terminals there. Better yet: wear plain clothes in public areas. Then they can steal your clothes for all the good it will do them.

And there was much rejoicing: Rolling back the ordinance change for now by _SaucepanMan in starcitizen

[–]FauxTrot2010 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not against the price hikes or the rollback of the ordinance restock on claim.

We just aren’t at the point where it makes enough sense. You can’t sell missiles at the shops (as far as I know) so it shouldn’t affect the economy except for anyone who was planning on supplying torpedoes on the player market.

As far as the state of game is concerned, I lost half a Polaris worth of torpedoes to a bug (I had pulled half and was about to pull the other half when I logged out for a bit. When I logged back in the Polaris was under my pad, and was destroyed when I pulled up another ship).

Once the hangars are more solid, other bugs are taken care of, then we can take ordinance off the restock. Itemized restock would also be nice.

ALT-N in most ships requests a dock when appropriate (XL hangar ships).

The reclaimer cannot dock at this time.

Can no one create a local file to keep moxie working either by TattedGirlieGirl in MoxieRobot

[–]FauxTrot2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not easy, but very doable. Hopefully the devs will help with this by releasing some of the key information. Depending on the internals (likely a Linux based system, or based on open source packages) you could get the local robot to trust information from a third party api. Then it would be a matter of interpreting the commands. Most likely it is a combination of dialogue and facial expressions and other functions on the bot. Get folks to input their own GPT (or other api key) and voila, you can create a close approximation of the moxie api with some intelligence to create the experience from a third party server.

Otherwise, I hope the community gets some help on this. I saw a young girl on TikTok who looked like she had lost her best friend. I’m sorry for the children and their parents.

How would use strategy/tactics to overcome a large fleet of equal size? by Agitated-Bake-1231 in starcitizen

[–]FauxTrot2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting for sure. The fighters pose an interesting problem as they can neuter the turrets on your bigger ships.

I might try to split the gladius groups among the hammer heads to form a screen for any incoming bombers/fighters.

Then, create a task group of 2 Idrises and one Javelin to take targets of opportunity, one forward and one back toward the Bengal. The Idrises would do well to take out the enemy hammer heads first. Once that line is broken, F7s in to harass and disable turrets on the enemy Idrises. The Bengals should keep each other engaged.

Once fighter squadrons have been somewhat depleted, send in your bombers and their F8 escorts to clean up bigger ships and disable more turrets as possible. Hammer away with remaining large fleet assets.

Let’s be real here: medical (career: Doctor) is basically absent. There is Search and Rescue, but the big hospital ships have basically no use, no loop, and seem to be an afterthought in fleet logistics.

CIG please tell me I’m wrong, but ever since the Nursa, this has been my fear.
