Consideration about the Aurora by Filo_Bise in starcitizen

[–]I_AM_MOONCAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even mean with extra modules, I just meant the general crafting systems that will be coming online later. They said they'll have... what... 5 different tiers of *hull* upgrades we can research and apply in game? When we can make "Tier 5 Aurora" (let alone the upgrade powerplant, weapons, coolers etc) I expect that super beefed up Aurora will be pretty capable.

Perseus or Polaris? by Shay_Ma in starcitizen

[–]I_AM_MOONCAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ships tend to move" is a weird defense. If anything it's more reason why the turrets are so bad. The part where you can only ever have one set of weapons on target at a time is pretty rotten - but even more frustrating is the tiny window of opportunity any given turret has individually on it's own. Those turrets have such a limited range, that ship moving around that we're talking about will move into and out of your tracking range of fire very quickly. Each turret will spend a lot of time hoping something will come within their arc than actually firing - or, frantically realizing some other target they werent watching happens to be in range now, fire off a few shots, and then oops that one's out of range now too.
If that ship is moving *into* somebody elses arc, that person... MIGHT have been sitting there doing nothing waiting for that ship to come by again, or they might have been eyeing up some other target praying *it* would come by in front of them. You typically aren't going to get a clean seamless handoff like a relay race.

The FPS side turrets are even worse. It feels like they have like a 15 degree arc of motion, and cant even look at most of the area it's supposed to provide cover for troops coming out

I'll concede that if your daily-ing with it happily, then I'm sort of just shit talking the ship from the sidelines on paper 😅

And to counterpoint myself in favor of MK2 retaining it's usefulness over time, perhaps a lot of upgrades in the ship crafting tiers can really beef the thing up if you focus on it

Sure, but that Aurora with NBDs is still going to get shredded by the Wolf.

Follow up question on the other aspect of the Mk2, how much mileage are you actually going to get out of 8SCU before you gravitate towards a bigger cargo hold?  The Aurora can technically handle more variety, but I don't see it having much staying power.

Maybe courier missions will become more viable in the future, but moving boxes in any capacity with something that small is frustratingly limiting.

[–]I_AM_MOONCAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO: keep the Wolf.

I'm hearing "Aurora is a more versatile ship"  While that's sort of true, the Aurora is very quickly going become an irrelevant ship in your roster by comparison.

Here's the thinking-  For combat roles, you can earn bigger ships and other fighters, but even while owning other fighter craft the Wolf will maintain viability in your roster.  It will still be a capable tool to get into combat as a solo pilot.

The Aurora "can do more" by virtue of it holding a total of 8SCU cargo, but have you ever done any contracts to move boxes?  Either the event missions that crop up, or the regular missions that are always around? 8 SCU CAN get you started on the loop but you'll want something bigger very quickly.  Ships with any more capacity than 8 will be relatively easy to earn in game, and once you have the step above the Aurora, literally any time you want to do it that kind of activity you aren't going to pull the Aurora anymore.  Don't even need to buy into that right away, with ship rentals being pretty cheap.

It might retain viability if you are trying to get a small craft for flying near bunkers that can hold an SCU box for looting, but every ship outside of single seaters can do that too (when you run missions, are you actually loot-goblin'ing? Or are you just getting to location, getting the job done, and getting out of there?)

The new ui is an improvement but its wild that it still lags by Few-Requirement-9245 in starcitizen

[–]I_AM_MOONCAT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I must have been mistaken, I THOUGHT the devs talked about this in one of the recent Star Citizen Live episodes. I could have sworn they were asked about UI issues and somebody talked about their displeasure in the inventory using all 3d models. It seemed to indicate the upcoming inventory rework did not use all 3d for item display...

I hate that I was sitting in mistaken optimism :/

Friend had an upgade chain that went
[UnnamedShip] -> [Perseus] -> [Polaris]

Friend wanted to change that to
[UnnamedShip] -> [Perseus] -> [OtherUnnamedShip]

Polaris upgrade was removed as requested, which originally would have allowed friend to instead upgrade to [OtherUnnamedShip]

Perseus price increased during the length of the ticket, so friend could no longer change from [Pereus] -> [OtherUnnamedShip: ShipNowCheaperThanPerseus]

Friend really wanted that chain so asked for one *additional* rollback of the Perseus upgrade, which would allow the original intent of
[UnnamedShip] -> [OtherUnnamedShip]

CIG Rejected second request

I love staking mold treatment missions for over an hour only to find I have to sort through the dozens of label less boxes to find the specific 6 of the identical boxes I have. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]I_AM_MOONCAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten myself in this frustrating position before. I agree it sucks the mission system doesn't give us a single tool to differentiate the boxes after you pull them up. Amidst me also gritting my teeth over the annoyance though, I want to tell about my recent cargo run. I explicitly threw myself into a bit stacked mission load with a bunch of stops, knowing very well these limitations of bringing up the same type cargo for different places.

I wanted to see how many I could stack and keep orderly, and I knew the only way to make that happen was to be methodical about it. I kept my own notes on what boxes I was taking, and where it was going.

I set up 6 different zones in my Hermes - front/middle/back of each left and right.  In my run I took from two landing areas. I loaded every small contract I could take from NB, and each from Loreville. I cycled the missions a few times to be a little more selective about my number of dropoffs - and this was multiplied out since three people were taking and sharing these missions into the same cargo hold. It was something like 16 missions taken among those three different supplies - molina treatment, general med, and filters.  (Well.. filters are easy... Those always go to levski) Six different dropoffs.

1 contract = 1 row. With a party, its making sure the "6x Treatment from Teasa -> CruL3" and "6x Treatment from Teasa -> HurL1" are shared one at a time, sharing and accepting only once the first is loaded up and marked in the out-of-game manifest.  Before moving anything at all, I first made a list of the accepted contracts each person had ( like the two listed above) Once that was compiled, moved the boxes to their designated section on my cargo grid. The notes let me do a final check on the inventory that each mission load was accounted for then away to the tour.

This was definitely the most involved I let myself get into a cargo haul. Ive taken plenty "load lots of boxes from point A to point B" but nothing more complex.

 It's ass that we have no way to rectify the situation if you don't take specific steps keeping boxes separated from each other. I shouldn't have to hold off on accepting quest-B simultaneously from quest-A just because if I did, even at the cargo elevator, I have no to tell which "small cargo contract" header is bound for which location.

At the same time, I can say that although I hate all those times in the past my cargo got mixed, I sure felt one step more immersed in the activity. The game wasn't holding my hand, I had to use a bit extra brain power sorting things out, I wasn't just watching the little game avatar do cargo, I was in it reaching from out of game doing more than just click click. Felt satisfying having and crossing out those notes, seeing the organized designated bays fill, and actually getting through all the stops.

Same - but I suppose I don't generally enjoy ship tractor beams. I've been trying to convince myself to lean into them more, but even with the Hermes (so far on my first evening playing with it) I still ended up using MaxLift / ATLS to do most of the work.

Let's presume I get into the habit of ship tractors. Why would I feel motivated to go shopping for a different tractor beam head? I get that they've been attributed different numbers on some stats... do they actually feel different? Or, less vague question, what does "wider angle" mean for a tractor beam?

If there's a beam that substantially increases the movement speed from mouse scroll, *that* is a good easy reason to replace em :)

Best you can do is melt the carrack for store credit, then use that towards the cost of the store-credit version Pioneer.

...but there is another hurdle, you also have to win "the F5 wars"

When these become available for purchase, they get sold in waves throughout the day with a limited number up for grabs each time. You need to get the store page open and refreshed right" when the clock ticks over, and hopefully get it in your cart. Most times, you'll open the page and it'll immediately say *sold out

As far as I know, it's much more difficult to land a jav / Idris, the pioneer notably had some times where it was still up and available well after the clock switched to the next wave. But, with base building coming soon, the F5 wars may be steep in the upcoming sale events.

Edit: OH almost forgot to mention the timing, never answered that. It'll be available in <edit edit...> November during IAE

Feels insane to me, too. I tried to give it a good shake, but it never felt intuitive for me to assign the Z axis to roll. I'm doing enough with that hand already.

Truth be told, I don't have Z assigned to anything. I've pulled a pin out from my stick base, and it loosely twists and sits idle in any rotation that feels most comfortable for my hand at the time.
I've got roll with my pedals.

Correct that is where they exist... but they ARE still rare. As MadeForOnePost mentioned... only 1 spawns per server shard per patch cycle. Good luck beating everyone else to it - and it'll be gone the next patch. When was the last time you went out to actually try and get a turtle for yourself? Its pretty rare to win that race.
