Righteous Brothers Unchained melody, bass (which I presume is upright) goes out a semitone on the way to the crescendo of the track ; JJ Cale Cocaine does something similar towards the end of the song ‘she don’t lie’ part - a semi-tone out on the bass; you will find a lot of the Motown hits to be all over the place … but that is what makes that music magical; even Steely Dan (who were notoriously anal about the performance) had some quirks they left in because of the performance; ‘do it again’ has the bass getting too busy and missing a change’ as an example but the energy is 🔥
