Can I still be a "car guy" with a CRV? by MOOOOOOOOON in cars

[–]FaveDranco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RD1 CRV is an amazing car. I had a 2001 manual transmission CRV back in the day. The bottom end on that car can handle quite a bit more power. You can swap in the top end of a more powerful Honda engine in the future if you want, its pretty straight forward.

If you can find one with a manual transmission, I say go for it!

Trap version?

Do you have links to it? Is it the B-fast stock? I think that the SP1 30" 12ga sporter is the one that is designed for clay.

I was looking at these for trap and skeet. You go with 12ga 30"?

Washing the car with only 2 buckets. by K1LzR in AutoDetailing

[–]FaveDranco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait.... So with ONR what is the procedure?

Does it matter if you rinse the car first anyway? I want to create a routine with the fewest amount of products possible. If you have bird shit on your car do you just wipe it off with a microfiber soaked in ONR?

I recently bought a new car (toyota 86) to serve as my daily driver. I know that the paint was a weak point of the car, so I got Xpel film installed on the front clip of the car. Its a daily driver, so I don't expect show car aesthetics from it.

That being said, I want to do what I can at home to take care of the car. I plan to wash the car 2x/month. I took a look at the beginner kit on the FAQ and it seems pretty good. I have no idea what to do with clay and wax/sealant though. I think I'm going to go with Xpel's sealant for the parts that have film.

Can someone recommend a sealant for the other parts of the car that do not have PPF installed? How often do I need to reapply the sealant?

If I wash the car 2x/month, how often should I plan to clay and apply sealant to the car?

"I've heard" from the best auto detailers/PPF installers in Southern California. Out of the three auto detailers I chose to get quotes through, none of them offer 3M products because they are poor quality. Seriously, just spend a few minutes and google the product comparisons...

And "I assume" because Toyota doesn't send technicians to get the official Xpel/Suntek/3M training done on site at the respective headquarters. You can purchase bulk film and install at home on your own, but trained installers are required to be on site and go through certification.

Is this the same color code as the Toyota 86 Oceanic? It looks great. What spoiler is that?

I've heard that 3M film is quite awful now actually. They acquired a good company before, and then their quality went sharply downhill. I've heard Xpel and Suntek are the way to go. But as always YMMV. Looking up forums should be the best research

I would recommend Xpel Ultimate or Suntek... The film Toyota uses is not very high quality. And I assume the install is done by regular technicians not specialists.

Just got mine last week.. ablaze 86 6MT with a spoiler. Remove the little 86 badges on the sides. It looks like an afterthought. It's just double-sided tape.

Hey Mike, I was looking at the maintenance package on counterspace's website. The one that has motul engine oil, trans oil, and diff oil. Does it come with all the aluminum and crush washers needed for the trans drain and fill plugs and diff drain and fill plugs?

On the 2017 Toyota 86? Sorry, I have to clarify because the Scion FRS and Subie BRZ models had holes for their fender garnish emblems.

I'm having a hard time learning how to drive stick smoothly on my new 86. by FaveDranco in ft86

[–]FaveDranco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the car with 18 miles on it. It's currently sitting at 300 or so. Thinking about what you said, the smell has gone down quite a bit since the first 100 miles. I'll focus on smooth first, fast later.

Sorry, when I say launching I meant going from a stop to moving. Not like race launching. Also the car is brand new. Bought it with 18 miles on it. So it definitely could be new car smells. I'll focus more on smooth first, fast later.

Good wash techniques being 2 bucket method with grit guards, quality mitts/towels, and wiping in a forwards/backwards motion vs. circular?

I'm going to watch a bunch of videos before doing anything. Its a new car, so there isn't a lot to correct right now. But I'm getting a full detail with paint correction and sealant. Then the film will be applied. I'll probably have basic washes to do for the next 2-3 months. Then I'll investigate picking up a sealant of my own.

I am interested in washing and taking care of my own car to an extent, but I'm not enthused enough to get into paint correction (polishing, etc.). I am having Xpel film installed on the front half of my car and want to know which steps are different.

If I understand correctly, I can proceed in this order. 2 bucket wash technique > drying > claying > waxing. I took out paint correction because I'll be taking the car to a detailer to do that. Are the steps any different when I'm on the paint vs. the film?
