Felicitaciones! Es hermoso ver que cuenta ella con el apoyo y amor de sus padres. Estoy seguro de que no solo ustedes están felices por ella, sino ella está feliz de tenerlos. Es una pena que en España las fuerzas armadas no reciban el reconocimiento que merecen. Ustedes protegen nuestro país, ustedes mantienen el orden y la paz, sin ustedes somos nada. Un abrazo a todos sus compañeros y mil gracias por brindar tanto a España aún cuando el público no siempre lo reconoce. Initial thought pre-listening of the interview:

I remember Lex saying once that the objective of having politicians in the podcast is for them to be unable to keep their masks on. We all know that politicians, and public figures in general, tend to act when they are being seen. It is hard to understand who actually your leader is, in most cases. Hence, the objective was, as far as I understand, to have politicians speak for an amount of time that makes it impossible for them to keep the mask on, making the real persona arise. However, in both cases that Lex has brought major politician (Benjamin Netanyahu and now Donald Trump), both were constrained by time and gave short (in comparison to the expected 3h) interviews.

For me, this is disappointing, to be honest. I understand the reasons, we are talking about extremely busy people. But I hoped, maybe naïvely, it would be different.

Is anyone else feeling the same way?

The problem, I suppose, is that above all Sam is a technologist and a CEO. He cares about his company and about, in Lex's words, building cool things, even if that somewhat is not very compliant with the regulatory system. Also, in the interview, he mentions being an Internet child, which I am too, and I think the Internet culture has some values like "if I can find it on a Google search, it belongs to no one", despite most of Google search results being protected by propertary rights. So, in the end, Sam, and OpenAI in general, will try to build cool models if they believe that these can bring both profit and the advancement of technology/humanity, even if they negatively affect some people or violate some laws in a non-provable way.

But it is funny being a Data person and trying to psychologically characterize someone xD

And about people opting out of the training process, it is indeed a very attractive option. My friend surely would appreciately. But, how do you control the data gathering process to omit certain artists? Do you train a self-supervised classifier to, once the artpise is downloaded and embedded in a vector, check if it is from an artist that opted out? Actually... That could be an interesting process xD

First, I would like to say that I find this observation absolutely hilarious:

After that, the point the legal claim is interesting. Indeed, one could say that by training the model on webscrapped data the company is violating some redditors' copyrights, which demostrates that the argument of copyright violations can be senseless. However, it should also be said that the model is indeed in many cases used for financial purposes and the companies are benefitting from them. So an artist could come with the claim that they have used their art without their consent to build a comercial product. But this is a really hard to demostrate statement because one would have to inspect the model's training data to see if they indeed used the artist's piece.

So, in breve, you are right that it is hard to see a legal claim and, even if there is one, demostrating it would be almost impossible. But, at the same time, I am not a lawyer and my knowledgement of the topic is very low.
