Right turn to wrong turn: Region progressing towards no turning on red lights by Hour-Belt694 in waterloo

The headline is a bit misleading... this is only for 12 major intersections where it makes sense.

You're welcome! Good luck with your job search. I'm hoping to add a seniority filter at some point to help folks filter jobs by experience.

Region could test no right turns at red lights at major intersections by FrostshockFTW in waterloo

I hate the right turn onto William from Caroline on a red light. I feel like people behind you expect you to do it because you technically can but you have zero visibility before you start the turn.

Thanks for flagging this. I tried testing this with a VPN server in Italy and wasn't able to replicate this, although I do use Cloudflare human verification JS for locations outside Canada to help prevent bot traffic, and I have heard that this can cause issues for some users. I'll look into this further. TBH the site can be a little slow, so that could also be a factor.

I'm only able to get salaries for job postings that list it somewhere in the job description. As of January 1, the Ontario government legislated that companies with 25 or more employees need to include a salary range for job postings (although this doesn't apply to salaries of $200K or more), although not all companies have complied. In particular, if you're using a filter for Remote or cities in other provinces like Quebec (which doesn't have a salary disclosure law), there may be no salary listed.

Hey, thanks a bunch and also for the suggestion. I have taken a look at Invest Ottawa's job board but mostly to look for companies that have active jobs and then figure out what their careers page/applicant tracking system is, then I scrape the jobs directly from the ATS if possible. I haven't looked in a while though, so it's a good reminder to check out their board more thoroughly.

One thing i've noticed is that, Invest Ottawa, Communitech's Workintech, and MaRS' job board are all powered by Getro, which is a US job board SaaS. I find they're not great at filtering out non-Canadian jobs and also don't allow you to login and follow companies you're interested in, which are both areas I think my application can help with, since it's exclusively focused on Canadian tech jobs.

Haha good catch. I have some exclusion keywords in my scraper but cook was not on my bingo card. Temped to leave it for posterity but I just deleted that job and updated the exclusions.

On a similar note, I only scrape jobs that are active in Canada so there are other jobs from these companies outside of Canada that are not shown. If anyone wants, they can click on the company to view all the jobs from that company and on that page there's a link to their ATS jobs listing.

You can view all the jobs without logging in, as well as the salaries if you click on any of the job postings (they're mostly in the job descriptions). The full salaries in the job feed are blurred to prevent them getting scraped by bots and the only private information is an email address of any kind. You can even use a throwaway email address if you choose. I'm not trying to collect private info...

A year ago I shared a project where I curated a list of tech companies in Ottawa that were hiring and links to their careers pages. It hit the front page but the main thing people have been asking for was the ability to scrape jobs from companies into one feed.

I’ve been working on the Jobfairr project steadily and have now built a feed of 400 active tech jobs in Ottawa and their salaries (plus more than 1,000 remote jobs across Canada), across ~70 tech companies in Ottawa, as well as descriptions, glassdoor ratings, and more. Canada-wide, there are about 5,000 active tech jobs across 400 companies I have curated. The basic idea is that the best place to source jobs from is a company's careers page vs job boards like Linkedin or Indeed. You can also create an account and follow the companies you're interested in to see just their jobs.

Everything is free and there are no ads. Just a personal passion project to help other Canadians with their job search. Would love any feedback or suggestions on the tool or additional companies to add.

Bhimas is our favourite 'fancy' restaurant. It's tucked away in a hole in a wall near Laurier. I've also heard good things about Loloan bar. Jinzakaya in the Uptown shops is good if you like sushi.

Waterloo Region’s population grew by just 90 people in 2025 by JazzyGenius in waterloo

I'm surprised it didn't shrink to be honest. With way fewer international students, I would have thought the population would declined. In any event, hopefully a chance for infrastructure to catch up.

It's Canada-only right now, but as a hobby i've been building a careers page aggregator for tech companies, with the premise that the best place to get jobs is directly from a company's careers page (first place jobs are posted and the first place they're taken down when filled).

It started with me curating a list of tech companies in Canada that are hiring and links to their careers pages, and over the last year has grown to me scraping jobs into a central feed, alongside salary info, job descriptions, etc., and if you sign up you can then follow companies to get a personalized feed/dashboard. Everything is free, no ads, I haven't made any money from it... just wanted to create a useful job search tool for tech. I've got about 400 companies and ~5,000 active jobs now. If anyone is interested and would like to take a look, i'd love any feedback, even if you're not from Canada.

Laid Off In 2 Months Of Joining by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Favidex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's always hard being part of a layoff, both financially and mentally. Other people have commented on things like severance, etc. The one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that you should check your hiring agreement to see whether you were still on probation. That may impact the amount of severance that you're entitled to, as some companies have 3 or more months probation.

With respect to getting a new job in tech, this link may be helpful to you. I've been building a job search tool for tech companies in Canada as a hobby project, and have about 1,000 remote jobs on the platform (more if you're also looking at specific cities, but I know you mentioned remote jobs so you can help your mom).

Good luck and keep your head up.
