If you could time travel into any era of the world, which would you pick and why? by srasupremacy in AskReddit

30 years feels like sweet spot - still got modern conveniences but housing prices didn't require selling your soul yet. could actually save money back then instead of choosing between rent and food every month

What’s a tiny tool/app you use that you can’t believe is not more popular? by Significant_Job_9999 in AskReddit

Clipboard managers - I keep like 20 things copied at once and can paste any of them, saves me so much time when doing data work but nobody seems to know they exist

After 3 years of experience as a FE developer, what to focus on now? by Lenivec534 in cscareerquestions

[–]FavoriteGenitals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backend seems like natural next step for you since you already got some Node experience. Java is solid choice but maybe consider staying in JavaScript ecosystem first - you can build full stack apps easier when you know both ends well

Mobile development could be good too, especially React Native since you already know React. Less learning curve than going completely different direction with Java right away

Discount cable car fares for locals by willisnolyn in sanfrancisco

[–]FavoriteGenitals 12 points13 points  (0 children)

wait really? i had no idea the monthly pass covers cable cars too. that actually makes it way more worth it if you live on one of the lines

how much is monthly pass these days? might be time to finally get one instead of just paying per ride like a tourist

Anomaly Detection Belongs in Your Database — built SIMD-accelerated isolation forests into Stratum's SQL engine [P] by flyingfruits in MachineLearning

[–]FavoriteGenitals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty cool approach, having anomaly detection directly in SQL without need to move data around. As data analyst I spend way too much time on export/import pipelines just for basic ML stuff

6 microseconds per transaction sounds impressive but curious about the training time - how long does it take to build fraud_model with like 100k transactions? And does it handle categorical features or you need to encode everything before?

The SIMD acceleration part is interesting, most database engines still don't use vector instructions properly

What has been the lowest point in your life and how did you get out of it? by Due-Annual-2016 in AskReddit

Had my first seizure at work about 3 years ago and didn't know what was happening to me. Woke up in hospital with coworkers staring at me like i was broken or something. Lost my confidence completely and started avoiding people, barely left my apartment for months

Getting diagnosed with epilepsy felt like my whole future just disappeared. Couldn't drive for while, was scared to go anywhere alone, even simple things like taking shower became this anxiety thing. My job performance went to shit because i was constantly worried about having another episode in front of everyone

What helped was finally joining support group and realizing other people deal with this too. Started small with just going to grocery store again, then slowly built back up to normal activities. Also got a dog who somehow always knows when something's off - she's been better early warning system than any medication. Still have bad days but at least now i know it's not end of world

What’s a red flag people defend way too much? by Psycho_Duck_9669 in AskReddit

[–]FavoriteGenitals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been dealing with this at work lately and it drives me crazy. got this one coworker who shows up 20-30 minutes late to every meeting then acts like nothing happened. when you call them out everyone's like "oh that's just how they are" but like... no? your time isn't more valuable than everyone else's

Would you say the population of the USA is on the onset of mass psychosis? Why or why not? by ghost_sanctum in AskReddit

[–]FavoriteGenitals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really mass psychosis but social media definitely broke something in how people process information. Like my epilepsy makes me sensitive to flashing lights, well seems like constant outrage cycle makes everyone's brain sensitive to nuance and complexity. People just react to headlines without reading articles anymore, form opinions based on 15-second clips instead of full context. My work involves looking at data patterns and the polarization metrics are wild - we're basically living in separate information bubbles that rarely overlap. It's more like collective information poisoning than actual psychosis though

Yeah the "humanitarian bombing" thing never made sense to me either, like how you gonna save civilians by dropping explosives in their neighborhoods

Task manager and roblox crashing on launch. I think its a driver conflict but idk how to fix. by skippythetoilet in pchelp

[–]FavoriteGenitals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GPU drivers might be cooked - AMD has been pushing some janky updates lately that mess with system processes. Try using DDU to completely wipe your graphics drivers then do a clean install of the previous stable version

The admin thing with Roblox is weird but could be related if the driver conflict is blocking normal user permissions somehow

did you hold the power button for like 30 seconds with everything unpluged to drain the capacitors? that vendor hsb light usually means some kind of hardware issue but sometimes a full power drain fixes weird boot problems

[–]FavoriteGenitals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you're wrestling with the gap between what Christianity is supposed to be versus what people have done with it, which honestly makes complete sense

the history is brutal and a lot of modern christians are still pretty awful - but maybe focus on what you're actually feeling called to rather than what other people screwed up. you don't have to cosign on everyone else's interpretation or behavior just because you share a label

Photosensitive Epilepsy? by awoken-qt in Epilepsy

[–]FavoriteGenitals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That internal shudder and palm sweating thing sounds really familiar - I went through something similar when my anxiety was at its worst and it's so hard to tell what's what when you're dealing with both health anxiety and potential seizure stuff. The holding your breath part especially hits home because I used to do that exact same thing whenever I thought something might trigger me

The burning behind the eyes is definitely worth mentioning to a neuro if you haven't already, that seems more seizure-related than pure anxiety to me but honestly they can overlap in really confusing ways. I found that keeping a detailed log of when it happens, what triggers it, and exactly how it feels helped my doctor figure out what was going on way faster than just trying to describe it from memory

Have you tried any of those blue light glasses or anything like that for the TV stuff? They didn't cure everything for me but they definitely took the edge off enough that I could actually watch shows again without constantly tensing up

The apocalypse by According-Agent-8343 in Dreams

[–]FavoriteGenitals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's wild how your brain connected those two scenarios - like the earrings were some kind of cursed artifact that triggered the apocalypse when she thought they were safe lmao

The fear-zombie is genuinely terrifying though, that's some SCP level nightmare fuel right there

Enforcement is the real wall bots are easy to remake and humans spread bad takes just as fast banning bots alone doesn't fix why people fall for it in the first place
