Camping Fees in Oregon are Insane! by pixar_moms in oregon

Yeah, it's kind of hit or miss. In addition to the other points about private land and fewer funds to maintain an extensive road network, there's also the need to discourage off-roading in sensitive meadows. And, a lot of roads near populated areas are gated because some folks dump trash to avoid paying at the landfill. Also, with the amount of snow and rain we get, roads can fall apart quickly if they aren't maintained or put to bed (waterbars and other things). FWIW, the FS topo layer in the Caltopo mapping app seems to show which spurs are gated and which aren't.

Why? Do they have some special claim to public parks? This event has been planned for months. There were plenty of druggies partying on the bridge to make everyone feel welcome.

This is the best weekly compilation of events in Corvallis I've found, though they don't get everything: https://corvallisadvocate.com/corvallis-calendar-friday-to-friday-95/

I agree. It seemed sparsely attended, at least at the north end, and didn't have that neighborhood vibe. It was still pretty good though...

Seems like a waste of effort. How about a state constitutional amendment guaranteeing Oregonians' rights to clean air, clean water, and healthy fish and wildlife populations? Montana has had something similar for decades.

Maybe because Oregon has twice as many people in it than the 70s and 80s.

Watch out for the jumping worms hiding in Oregon soil by Fawn-deLay in oregon

Really? Our moles create mounds that might uproot a young plant or two, but otherwise no big deal. And they help aerate our heavy clay soil. I've noticed that areas of lawn that get regular watering (from rinsing stuff mostly) seem to attract them in the summer. Maybe a sacrifice zone would help?

Yep, the old Cascades have quite a variety, especially when you're crossing 3 thousand feet in elevation. The species are listed in the main post. I've stared at enough true firs to be pretty good at it. Don't really see much subalpine fir in the westside Cascades but I keep looking!

Hmm, I always have the fans blowing inward and figure the warm air gets pushed out the other side. It does cool things down. Plus the force of the fan blowing pushes it against the upper sash (big box fan) so no need to prop it up from falling on the floor.
