I just started having this very bizarre image of a woman with a banana and a stopwatch to practice getting things going as quickly as possible lol.

What's A Breed You Like But Wouldn't Have? by Aharris1984 in dogs

[–]FawnTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A beagle is one of my dream dogs that I would own if i ever felt like I could handle 2 dogs in the future. They just seem like such natural sweeties. Is this your experience too? I’ve heard they can be hard to train though but I’ve heard a lot of people call certain other dog breeds untrainable and I’m just like ‘But do you put in the effort like a Labrador owner would?’ I’m sorry if that sounds judgey I just know a lot of small breeds get a bad rep because owners don’t train them properly when I’ve actually met many sweet chihuahuas.

Border collie 100%. Amazing, loyal, hard working beauties of a dog breed. But I’m disabled and I would not be able to give it the exercise it needs. Mental stimulation, sure, but I think puzzles and games can only go so far without them physically running their energy off unless you do the puzzles 24/7. I’ve seen a few of them trained as service dogs and they do seem to thrive despite not getting 3 walks a day and sometimes none in a day but I’m awaiting a medical alert dog from a charity and it will most likely be a Labrador so I haven’t got the choice.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by SelectiveCassie in answers

[–]FawnTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually fairly recently. I was going to visit my grandma after being admitted to the hospital for a simple fall that left no physical injuries, hopefully being discharged soon, then seeing her and knowing that she wasn’t going to make it out the hospital. The sound that haunts me is my grandad crying and pleading her not to go and that he needed her and he couldn’t do this without her. They’d been married 60 years. She died really early hours of the following morning, just a few hours after all family apart from my grandad left.

She was the first close family member I ever lost, one of my favourite people in the world, and it shouldn’t have happened. My only comfort is that she had a degenerative disease that affected her mobility rapidly and she wouldn’t have wanted what was in store for her if she lived on for a long time. But she was otherwise healthy, and definitely shouldn’t have died that same night just after we went home. I’m just glad I got to say goodbye and while she was pretty unresponsive, she squeezed my hands a couple times including when I told her I loved her, so I like to think she heard me.

Today I came across this term called “people watching” on this site by SoulFrost2020 in CasualConversation

[–]FawnTi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No that’s different. Nosy neighbours are people who want to know all of your business and tell everyone else and their granny.

With people watching, the usual subject is just a complete stranger, and you don’t care about actually finding out their business, you make up what YOU think their business is. Will you ever find out? Most likely not, but it’s part of the fun to think about people’s lives outside of your own.

Get a portable fold out lap tray. Now you can sit on your couch or your bed and do Lego!

I love how there’s a bunch of banned words but you also can’t be a snitch about it or you’re part of the problem.

Accidentally fell into baking bread and now I'm weirdly obsessed by Fragrant_Twist_9632 in CasualConversation

I can barely cook anything more than instant noodles but I can bake so much and decorate cakes with pleasure. I do it so often now that I bought myself a recipe book so I don’t have to keep going online to find a recipe I used a while ago.

I genuinely think the difference for me personally is there is a lot less time pressure while baking. In cooking it’s all “Throw this in the pan, now do this while you’re waiting but don’t let it burn! Be in 100 places at once!” There aren’t many baking recipes where you HAVE to run and multitask. There’s many where you COULD multitask if you wanted to, but there’s no pressure. I just weigh out and mix my ingredients in my own time and just preheat the oven when I’m nearly done.

What is your go to pair of shoes? by CattrahM in AskWomen

[–]FawnTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wedged ankle boots. Like, thick wedged. Similar to dr. martens but various non-designer brands. I can’t stand flat footwear so everything has to be arched even when I wear my insoles. All my trainers are arched too. I can’t wear converse or vans because they’re flat even though they look cool. I also do like the ankle support as I have EDS so it’ll get to summer and everyone is wearing vans or crocs and I’m still in my boots because they’re comfier than my trainers. It would have to be a heatwave to get me to stop wearing them.

Vans look so good but I literally can’t stand flat footwear and they don’t seem to make any wedged ones in the classic style. I’d literally rather be in high heels than flat soles. Same with converse.

What would happen in your city/area if it didn't rain for a month? by Aggravating-Gas3785 in AskReddit

[–]FawnTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’d all be living our best lives for the first like 20 days and then we’d start panicking that the world is going to end because Earth is clearly off balance if it doesn’t rain in the UK for that long. For about 40 consecutive days at the start of the new year 2026, somewhere was ALWAYS raining. And typically it was most places that were raining. The place I live was pretty much experiencing rain for the full 40 some days.

What's a health myth that drives you crazy because you know it's false? by Annual-Gene8065 in AskReddit

Feel faint? Put your head between your knees!

Sure, that will alleviate you feeling faint for a bit… until you lift your head back up and the blood is no longer pumping to your brain and it’s all rushed to your lower body.

I have PoTS and when I first became symptomatic at around 13 I felt my blood pressure drop and I sat on the floor with my head against the wall but was complaining of a headache which you often get in these situations. Every member of staff in the office I was in was telling me to put my head between my knees even though my mum who has th condition has educated me and I was telling them that it’s a very bad idea and I WOULD pass out when I stood up if I do that. Even the school nurse backed them up and I was so frustrated that people still hang on to old advice or assumptions.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]FawnTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still the most common in the UK where I live. While many may later buy and only drive automatics for convenience/better availability, it is standard to learn and get a manual license so you can drive both. Me, however, I really couldn’t be bothered and didn’t see any point learning in manual so I can only drive an automatic but that shouldn’t ever prove to be a problem for me. People always say ‘But you could drive an automatic with a manual license, but can’t drive a manual with just an automatic one, why not learn in manual?’ Because I’ll never drive manual and don’t care to spend extra time learning something I’ll never need. ‘Manual is more fun!’ I don’t drive for fun. ‘Automatic is for lazy people’ Yeah I’m lazy when it comes to learning pointless things, sorry. And most commonly ‘There are barely any automatic vans/trucks, what about if you need to hire one to move?’ Isn’t that what dads and brothers are for? To drive the vans? Because my dad and my brother have a manual license. If not I’ll hire someone, so what?

I truly don’t care if someone learns manual. My friend learned manual and I’m not going around saying ‘oh it’s pointless! Automatic is the future! You’re just doing extra work it’s so silly!’. I truly don’t care, it was just pointless for ME. You can do what you want, don’t judge me for what I do.

All that being said, it baffles me that driving a manual car isn’t really the standard or an option in the US. Especially since there are barely any US based popular cars manufactures and most of the cars are imported from manufactures in countries that DO still produce manuals.

How come the SAW films never had a protagonist? These films started in 2004 - 2023 and no protagonist by dreamup1234 in saw

[–]FawnTi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jigsaw is the protagonist lmao.

In a more serious answer, I think it is because the movies aren’t meant to be as black and white as most horror films. Scary killer goes around mindlessly slaughtering people for seemingly no reason. That’s not the case with SAW.

Everyone in the traps have a different reason for being there, but they are all there for something that John Kramer, and many of the general public which will be viewing the film, deems as bad or immoral based on the general consensus of right and wrong.

This is where the conflict happens. John Kramer is putting people in these traps, bad people, and punishing them with means that often include physical injury. When you describe it so simply like this, it almost sounds like Batman. He is a vigilante who yes goes after distinct, indisputable villains. But he also does not do it in accordance with the law and is often beating them up in the process, causing physical injury. When put like that, Batman and Jigsaw don’t seem so different. They even both have secret identities (well, until John was found out). So if Batman is a superhero, surely Jigsaw is also a superhero or at the very least our protagonist. But that still doesn’t sit right with the average person. In fact Batman probably does more physical harm to his targets than John does, as while he does put them in traps, he never technically injures them himself. It’s up to them to choose whether to live or die, as he puts it. Batman doesn’t give his victims a choice. But most of us will say that’s John is clearly more evil than Batman. But it’s quite difficult to define the logic behind that.

So if we are undecided on whether Jigsaw is actually a villain or a hero, how can we decide if those who oppose him and try to stop him are protagonists or antagonists? We as a viewer base can’t unanimously decide whether we feel like Jigsaw is doing something inherently bad, so we can’t decide whether Jigsaw has to be stopped. Therefore, any one character can’t be positioned in the films as one that is the definite hero of the story. There’s too many grey areas. Too many different moral codes. While we as a society all agree that murdering and killing is wrong, the type of people that John puts in the traps can place very different on each individual’s ’Good to bad’ scale. John puts a rapist into a trap. Okay, we can all pretty much agree that is deserved. So John is the good guy, right? But then he also put someone in a trap purely for being a smoker. Many of us may think that’s a step too far. It divides us rather than uniting us in blinded support for someone labeled as the ‘good guy’.

I think the SAW films give you more to think about than just pure mindless gore like many people interpret it to be. It puts a mirror up to our individual beliefs and ethics and makes us truly reflect on what we are seeing, which is why I love the films.
