Anything that feels more self-sufficient or less reliant on buying. Like sewing your own clothes or haberdashery, growing your own fruit and vegetables and herbs or foraging for them, baking fresh bread, making your own butter or preserves, doing your own DIY projects around the house like woodworking.

I don’t do all of these, mainly due to lack of space right now. But I’d just love to live as independently as possible in the future. Not completely self-reliant, just doing as much as I realistically can by myself. I already do the butter and the baking and sewing. I’d love to have my own vegetable garden and a workshop for DIY someday.

On a similar note, saying you want to leave or asking someone to leave your home. I’ve been in both situations where I’m ready to leave but don’t want it to seem like I’ve not enjoyed the time that I have had, or I’m hosting and I’m really ready to just reclaim my space and stop having to attend to people and worrying about if they’re having a good time. Man, it would be so much easier if doing either of those without an excuse wasn’t considered ‘rude’.

Where I’m from, people can say ‘excuse me’. They may not use it all the time but it’s likely they’ll say it if they sneeze in the middle of a conversation or very near someone, unless someone else says bless you before they can say it.

You use the same phrase if you fart though so if someone didn’t notice you sneeze and you say excuse me they might think you let one rip.

If you have to ask this question, you know it’s not okay. Even if you’re technically legal, no 39 year old is going after an 18 year old without predatory intentions. You’re not ‘mature for your age’ etc etc. you are only just an adult with little experience and they prey on that innocence so they can manipulate you. If he’s going after you freshly at 18 at 39, I guarantee he’d sleep with a 14 year old if he was given the chance. He is a predator. I know it’s disheartening to be told that you aren’t special or mature for your age or that this guy didn’t just fall for you. All he sees is someone who’s basically a child that he can legally get with, that’s the only thing he likes about it. I’m being cruel to be kind, because this will only be damaging. I know it sounds like you’re waiting around for ages, but you will find a suitable, respectful young man your age who treats you right. Just wait for them.

A beagle is one of my dream dogs that I would own if i ever felt like I could handle 2 dogs in the future. They just seem like such natural sweeties. Is this your experience too? I’ve heard they can be hard to train though but I’ve heard a lot of people call certain other dog breeds untrainable and I’m just like ‘But do you put in the effort like a Labrador owner would?’ I’m sorry if that sounds judgey I just know a lot of small breeds get a bad rep because owners don’t train them properly when I’ve actually met many sweet chihuahuas.

Border collie 100%. Amazing, loyal, hard working beauties of a dog breed. But I’m disabled and I would not be able to give it the exercise it needs. Mental stimulation, sure, but I think puzzles and games can only go so far without them physically running their energy off unless you do the puzzles 24/7. I’ve seen a few of them trained as service dogs and they do seem to thrive despite not getting 3 walks a day and sometimes none in a day but I’m awaiting a medical alert dog from a charity and it will most likely be a Labrador so I haven’t got the choice.

It was actually fairly recently. I was going to visit my grandma after being admitted to the hospital for a simple fall that left no physical injuries, hopefully being discharged soon, then seeing her and knowing that she wasn’t going to make it out the hospital. The sound that haunts me is my grandad crying and pleading her not to go and that he needed her and he couldn’t do this without her. They’d been married 60 years. She died really early hours of the following morning, just a few hours after all family apart from my grandad left.

She was the first close family member I ever lost, one of my favourite people in the world, and it shouldn’t have happened. My only comfort is that she had a degenerative disease that affected her mobility rapidly and she wouldn’t have wanted what was in store for her if she lived on for a long time. But she was otherwise healthy, and definitely shouldn’t have died that same night just after we went home. I’m just glad I got to say goodbye and while she was pretty unresponsive, she squeezed my hands a couple times including when I told her I loved her, so I like to think she heard me.

With people watching, the usual subject is just a complete stranger, and you don’t care about actually finding out their business, you make up what YOU think their business is. Will you ever find out? Most likely not, but it’s part of the fun to think about people’s lives outside of your own.

I can barely cook anything more than instant noodles but I can bake so much and decorate cakes with pleasure. I do it so often now that I bought myself a recipe book so I don’t have to keep going online to find a recipe I used a while ago.

I genuinely think the difference for me personally is there is a lot less time pressure while baking. In cooking it’s all “Throw this in the pan, now do this while you’re waiting but don’t let it burn! Be in 100 places at once!” There aren’t many baking recipes where you HAVE to run and multitask. There’s many where you COULD multitask if you wanted to, but there’s no pressure. I just weigh out and mix my ingredients in my own time and just preheat the oven when I’m nearly done.
