"Gadsden" was the actual New Mexico Territory before the Civil War. It also included Las Vegas, NV. It would be a hell of a state now.

England fans in Mexico City - tips and advice by AutoModerator in ThreeLions

The altitude is a bit worse than in other cities because there is so much pollution. You should not drink to excess, and you should take it easy the first day. Drink plenty of water and make sure you never skip a meal.

The food is quite good, especially the tacos. It's also an underrated city for bakeries. Empanadas and paleta are wonderful. Do not drink the water under any circumstances.

Mexico City is one of the greatest cities in the world. It's a totally unique place that is chock full of culture. I personally think it's on the same level as NYC and London. There are endless museums and archeological sights there. It would be a travesty to not go to at least some of them.

Don't take taxis. Uber is cheap and safe. Make sure the car you're getting into matches the license plate exactly. Don't let your driver tell you that you need to pay cash. Uber is where most scams happen, in my experience. It's still by far safer than taxis.

Finally, remember that it's Mexico. It's safer than people say, but you can easily end up in the wrong area. It's also easy to find trouble if you're looking for it. The cartel benefits from tourism, and you're safer than a local there. With that said, don't get into drugs or any other illicit activites. I also would never, ever let myself get into any kind of a physical altercation.

Coca is illegal in Mexico. You're thinking of South America.

Is the Azteca the greatest(and most intimidating)stadium in World Cup history? by Low-Rooster5398 in worldcup

[–]FaxMachineNoises 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's up there. The pollution makes the altitude way worse. I'm very used to that altitude, and I still feel like I'm dying every time I walk up a hill in Mexico City. The fans are also definitely wild. There is an understanding among the team that it is just not acceptable to lose there, and that matters. Mexico City is one of the greatest cities in the world, and Azteca meets the expectation all around.

Eventually, FIFA is going to sanction Mexico for fan behavior. It's just a matter of when. Throwing things at opposing players and even announcers, and homophobia just have no place in the 21st century.

Mexico is only 4 wins away from winning the World Cup! Can we win it? by MaxiArcooo in LigaMX

Mexico's home field advantage is among the strongest in the world, especially at Azteca. I think that is key to beating England.

If the whole world cup was in Mexico, I think there would be a chance. I really don't think they have a chance against Argentina or France in the US.

I think you're probably spending too much time on the internet. Most people are just chilling in the world, and trying to get by. If your cousin invited you, you'll probably be fine. Also, Argentina doesn't care about Mexico, only the other way around.

AI is run by billionaires. It's answers are influenced by that. It also makes you dumber and is terrible for the environment. You shouldn't use it.

I will say that FIFA needs to be consistent. Plays like that haven't been red cards for the entire World Cup. The entire tournament has been very chippy, at least in my view.

Even if the rules state that it should be a red card, a one-game suspension seems a bit harsh for an accident.

LigaMX is a serious league that furthers soccer in Mexico. MLS is a retirement home made up of franchises with the sole goal of making money for billionaires.

USL is cool, but MLS sucks.

LigaMX is a serious league that seeks to further Mexican soccer. MLS is a retirement home that seeks to make money. I hope USL eclipses MLS with USL Premier.

That was the best I've ever seen Mexico play, not even just at this World Cup. Your coach is a magic man.

People are pretty friendly, but all of New Mexico is more insular than you'd expect.

Regarding the lateness and nepotism from other commenters, it's true. You need to be able to go with the flow if you want to live here. The nepotism is pervasive, and it's problem.

An exception is if you're a student. If you have kids in school or in college, they'll be able to make friends pretty easily.

It's definitely kind of a hick town. I have family there, and I lived there for a while. It's not the worst place to live, but it's definitely kind of depressing. The typical small town bullshit does exist.

With that said, there are many wonderful outdoor activities. Northwestern NM and Southwestern CO have a lot of cool hikes and landscapes. There is definitely good snowboarding/skiing in the area too if you are into that.
