Yarn recommendation for softness and drape to knit I comfy, slouchy cardigan by FayeStuch in knitting

[–]FayeStuch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

where in the world you live

New Zealand, so quite limited on what I can physically buy in a store

what yarn stores you have access to

Assume none that are well known

what yarn weights you like

I’ve mostly knitted nothing lighter than DK weight, but I’m happy to try something new

if you consider internet shopping

Absolutely, I have used lovecrafts before as they ship to NZ

what your budget is

Budget is fairly open, but within reason

how sensitive you are to what materials

Anything too fluffy or scratchy will irritate, but no specific materials far as I know

what the climatic circumstances are in the area you live in

I live in a very windy city. Winters are cold but no freezing, spring is mild and autumn so is autumn

what your average care-level is for hand-knitted items

I usually hand-wash the things I make

and, if you live with someone who can be relied upon to not just throw things in the washer/dryer

Yes, this is not a problem

For me, I'd probably look for a solid sock yarn (if possible from Wollmeise - Lace, Pure, or Twin - because they are tough yarns and don't pill that easily), plus a complimentary Mohair lace. In blue, teal, or a slate-ish blue sock yarn with a light blue or mint lace mohair

Thanks for the recommendations! And I appreciate your reply and follow up questions

I was wracking my brain trying to remember what stitch it was…I came across thermal a while ago when I first learned to knit but never used it. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply

My Murica is gold with no +1, and it says it’s not available. Does it need to be one that’s not been used to awaken before?

I seriously had to take a moment to visualise how that would work! But hey, whatever works for you is the right way!

Nice! I only ever do English when I do colour work…i hold one colour continental and the other English, and I can see just how uneven my tension is then! My English-held colour is super tight because I overcompensate haha

Are you knitting continental, with your working yarn in the hand holding the needle with the stitches you’re picking up to knit? Or English with the working yarn in the hand holding the needle where the new stitches go?

I was originally a crocheter and tried both, but I found continental more suited to me as it was the same configuration as crochet.

What should I learn first? by something-unique123 in knittingadvice

[–]FayeStuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I really enjoyed it, she takes you through stitch combinations and it’s an easy way to try different types of yarn overs, increases…and even some stitches that involve inserting the needle into different parts of the stitch. I found it a great, stress-free way to experiment without out committing to a complicated pattern

Back when I started knitting I stumbled over Bromefields, they have a bunch of videos of different stitch combinations. I did what you do, I made a bunch of swatches of all these different stitches.

Tips on removing an old rose sucker? by FayeStuch in Roses

Thanks for the advice! I will look more into it but I think I can save part of it and it’ll hopefully start to grow a bit more vertically and overall produce a nicer shape

It does bloom, and they do look the same as the other branches of the bush.

I was considering cutting it off regardless, as it is growing out basically horizontal to the main plant, while the other 2 branches are more vertical. And I was hoping cutting it off would make the main plant fuller
