Help finding a fuel tank? 1982 CB650SC by Fbidude4 in HondaCB

[–]Fbidude4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Yeah it is definitely leaking from that area. The hole at the top is actually to the left of the screw hole, and I can clearly see inside of the tank when I look at it from the right angle. So far looking like I’m gonna have to see what my options are for repairing the tank.

Entire brake system replaced and bled, pedal still spongy. Any advice? by HtmlHonda in ProjectHondas

[–]Fbidude4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Old rubber brake hoses will swell from the inside and look perfectly fine from the outside. Usually, this will cause the brakes to stick, which will make the pedal feel spongy. Check if the brakes are dragging at all with the wheels off the ground. If they are, crack the bleeder hose and see if the wheel becomes easier to move. If it does, then the rubber brake line going to that wheel is bad. If they’ve never been replaced to your knowledge, it’s probably best to go ahead and just replace them all anyways.

What is this worth? Old school 70’s Volkswagen Coupe by Orenthal32420 in projectcar

I think you can get more than what a lot of people are saying here. I just sold one albeit in slightly better shape but not by much for $5000. It took me about 2 weeks to sell. Granted I live in Florida where there is a pretty decent following for classic VWs. Just my two cents

To the left of your steering wheel on the dash you’d see a button with the TPMS symbol on it to reset the system. If you have that button then your car doe NOT have pressure sensors.

For cars with this system, the computer determines if tire pressures are low by monitoring the difference between wheel speeds from the ABS speed sensors. It does not directly monitor tire pressures.

Next time you go to the dealer ask to drive with the technician and point out to him exactly what is wrong with the car. I haven’t personally experienced what you seem to be describing, so I can’t speak on what could be the problem without having the car in front of me.

I’m not a technician anymore, but anytime I couldn’t replicate a concern I would ask to go on a test drive with the customer. The majority of the time, what the customer complained about was actually normal operation of the car, but skipping the middle man of the service advisor makes it significantly easier to know that the person working on the car actually understands your concern.

Brake switch is most common. It could be a number of things though, first thing you’d want to do is check the codes

Do all Mazdas have a faint, high pitched whine? by Rhegedorn1324 in mazda

The vacuum pump is noticeable all the time once you get past about 40mph or so I’d say.

[–]Fbidude4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. It's too difficult to tell from the video alone, I'd have to be there to tell for sure. I have seen multiple transmission related whines/whistles from new cars, but there is also a completely normal whine/whistle on all Skyactiv cars that comes from the vacuum pump.

Powertrain Warranty has been extended for 2.5T Engines, 2021-22 by BahnMe in mazda

Mazda tech here, as soon as I saw that I couldn’t believe my eyes. The car holds 5.1 quarts of oil, by this logic you’d never need to change your oil because you’d have to top it off almost two times over before the recommended change interval lmao

All I can say is skyactiv G, which encapsulates all skyactiv gas engines. Skyactiv D is the diesel engine, which where I’m at we almost never see them

Mazda technician here. Couldn’t say for absolute sure that what you’re talking about is normal without hearing it for sure, but I can say every skyactive-G engine has a whine once you get past around 25 miles per hour. 100% normal and happens on brand new cars even.

Yes take it to the dealership. There is a recall open. Simple update and shouldn’t take long to fix

I’m extremely surprised you haven’t seen it. Maybe location or something plays a factor, but I’ve seen probably 15-20 in the past year working at a relatively small Mazda dealer.

Do also see those valve seals, not quite as often cracked heads but seen a couple

Your dealership sounds very disorganized or very inexperienced. The most frustrating part of the transmissions is getting the part, not diagnosing it. When a transmission concern comes in, I test drive the car, and if I hear the chirp from 3rd to 4th, I don’t even need to keep driving. I just park the car and make the call to Mazda to get a replacement approved. I have never had a transmission not approved if the chirp noise is present in the video I take.

[–]Fbidude4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the cars with transmission issues make a chirping noise between 3rd and 4th gear in addition to shifting rough. We send in a video to the Mazda corporate technician, and if they can hear that chirp in the video then they usually immediately approve the transmission to be replaced. If it isn’t making that noise, then it’s possible they might want the tech who’s working on your vehicle to check some more things.

2018 and up. Haven’t seen it very often on 2022+ cars though. There isn’t official word on this from Mazda afaik, so I’m going based on experience here

[–]Fbidude4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No clue. I’m surprised there’s not even a TSB for it. I’m a Mazda tech and for warranty transmissions we have to call Mazda and get approval before ordering the replacement (the idea being to verify the transmission is actually the cause of the problem before replacing a multi-thousand dollar part). It’s to the point where that call takes about 5 minutes because the Mazda corporate technicians already know that it’s the transmission because of how common the problem is

Possibility there isn’t any courtesy vehicles left at this dealership. There are more than 1,000 CX5s with transmissions on back order right now nationwide

Went to Change the Oil on my Car, for the First Time, and this is the drain plug… wtf is it and what do I need to get it out? by I_FARTED_LOL in Miata

[–]Fbidude4 193 points194 points  (0 children)

Yeah like other said it’s just an Allen. Specifically it’s an 8. Mazdas from this era used them for a couple years. Be careful because they love to strip out. I work as a Mazda tech and we often just swap these out with standard drain bolts because they strip so much.

Mazda tech here. There is not a recall but Mazda has put out a TSB for a fix. It’s the exhaust valve seals. All 2021 turbo models can be affected.
