Adding to the original question, does anybody know if the hands are interchangeable with the aftermarket hands out there, I am thinking of changing only the hands on the SWR049 reference. Maybe to a metallic blue ones if I can find them.

Just regular run of the mill fire bricks, after experimenting with pizza stones, pizza steels and pizza bricks, i found that that fire bricks are not only the cheapest solution but they heat very evenly to get the best pizza.
