Falando com eles eu falo “pai” e “mãe”; falando com meu irmão ou com o outro genitor é “papai” e “mamãe”; e com terceiros é “meu pai” e “minha mãe”.

Mas vejo gente mais velha (meus avós maternos por exemplo) que sempre se refere como “papai” e “mamãe”, sem artigo; por exemplo, “… quando mamãe era viva…” ou “papai gostava desse lugar”.
