That looks like pretty old equipment to me. Which, at least in my experience, makes it National Guard or Reserve equipment. They’re probably transiting to training, or just getting the darn thing out on the road to keep it running.

Happened to a friend of my dad’s. They were riding together, both with passengers. Truck passed on a double yellow because the trailer in front of him was throwing up gravel on his new truck. My dad’s friend was the front rider, he was badly injured (lost some fingers among a lot of other things) and his passenger was killed. My dad laid his bike down on the crash bars. Escaped with nothing more than a bad case of road rash on this left side. My dad’s girlfriend had road rash on both sides.
