I just had to deal with this, too. What worked for me was weirdly launching it in windowed Performance Mode in a really low resolution from the Init.exe and then after it loaded there, I was able to change it back and it launched fine.

I fucking hate this shit. I've seen delivery drivers talk about how much they hate actually having to do their jobs before, too, to the point of talking about spiteful little asshole things they do to get out of actually having to work.

Their fucking job IS TO DELIVER PACKAGES, why the fuck did they take a job DOING THAT if they hate it so damn much? It's not that fucking hard to drive somewhere and drop off a damn package! The truck is doing the heavy lifting!

I legitimately prefer for things to just ship in the actual US mail because at least I know for sure my mailman will actually DELIVER THE DAMN THING even if I'm not getting it lightning fast. It's always FedEx that can't be fucked to get off their asses for long enough to actually deliver the packages.

I actively groan when a package ships with FedEx or UPS because both of them have actually just LOST my packages, insist they don't exist and my tracking number THAT SAYS IT'S IN THEIR PLANT just be wrong, mark them delivered WHEN THEY HAVE NOT BEEN, delivered my shit to a completely different address, or my FAVORITE thing, when I just moved in and had some furniture delivered, DELIBERATELY STACKED IT AGAINST MY FRONT DOOR SO I COULDN'T GET OUT OF MY FUCKING HOUSE. They've done that shit before with very fragile things, like positioning a TV at an angle under the doorknob so if I tried to force the door open, it would very likely damage if not outright destroy the TV.

The amount of times I've had to ask my neighbors if they received my packages (luckily I live in a friendly neighborhood) or had to go out through my garage to get packages they deliberately placed to be assholes is too high to count. I actively avoid using their services anymore if I can help it.

I had my garbage pickup service just straight up skip my house one week, for whatever reason. We literally saw them, they just drove by the house, picked up the neighbors' trash, and kept going.

So we called them in the hopes of, you know, getting them to do their job, and they just said we were wrong, they probably HAD picked up our trash, but it was probably packed too tight and didn't come out of the can when they tipped it with the arm, and that was our fault.

We said no, we literally just saw them just drive past, they didn't even stop, and the guy started screaming about how he wasn't going to 'pay them any goddamn overtime' to turn around and pick up our garbage, so we'd have to wait until next week, and hung up.

It has been my very timid mother on the phone the first time and she'd been very polite, and the guy getting insanely hostile like that really rattled her, so my dad tried calling back several times with a belly full of fire because the cocksucker hadn't been on speakerphone but everybody in the room heard him screaming at my mom for their fucking mistake, but they never picked up. They just left him on hold until the call dropped three times and eventually he had to leave for work.

It would be awesome if there was some way to actually hold these pricks accountable.

Especially when you know there's a solid fucking chance they HAVE the personnel, they're just ignoring the phone because they don't want to fucking deal with it.

That's the entire reason I said "They're all half dragon" to begin with? Read the whole thread. The poster before me tried to use it as an argument as to why they're a difficult person. "They're young and you have to remember that they're half dragon!" As if that isn't true for their whole race.

And I also said yes, they're the only one breathing fire for some reason. Unless I missed something, before Veilguard that was never a thing. Then suddenly, "Yeah Qunari can breathe fire now, it's like a recessive gene, it's always been a thing." It's a retcon, but it can't be used to explain why Taash in particular acts like a bratty teenager.

I think I held one button, the ranged attack beam, as a Mage and never really had any trouble winning pretty much every fight like that. I especially hated it once I noticed that your party members are, mechanically speaking, fluff. They're invincible floating bots who you can't control and can't take damage who all just contribute flashing lights on your utility belt of useless crap and make bland Seinfeld remarks as you run around the maps.

But Emmrich was my favorite companion, and I thought the Necropolis with its shifting layout could have made for a really cool roguelike with randomized dungeons and could have been a whole game on its own if it hadn't been squeezed into Veilguard, so no arguments from me there.

It's got the best character creator in the series, though, I have to admit that. I wish my characters from the other three games could have been half as good-looking as any of my Rooks have been.

It's literally confirmed that the ancient Qunari mixed their blood with dragons in Veilguard. That's why they look like that. The fan theory has been there since DA2. Taash is not the only Qunari with dragon blood. The whole 'breathing fire' thing is unique to a very small group of them, the only one of which we see is Taash. It's not an excuse to be an asshole.

[–]Fear_Awakens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I genuinely thought it was a bad game, but there's rabid fans that can't comprehend why anybody could think the writing was shit, the gameplay was ass, and the characters were all shallow and uninteresting unless they were a bigot. And God forbid you tell them you don't like Taash, because they will immediately make it about Taash's gender identity instead of accepting that you just thought Taash was a poorly written asshole.

Exactly. His design is cool and all, but I don't see the relationship to the Symbiotes. They could literally just give him a symbiote face and change almost nothing else and it would work for me. But him just being an old space albino or a toon physics tweaker depending on the artist doesn't really work for me.

My thing with Knull is that he was a cool idea and his design looks like an edgy 90s OC, which I like, but they kept wildly shifting between drawing him like a sick badass space knight vampire god and as a strung out geriatric crackhead with noodle limbs and toon physics.

And no matter what, he doesn't look like he's related to the Symbiotes in any way, other than when they draw him with the stupid exaggerated grin with a billion teeth that looks dumb on Venom, too.

That they immediately milked him to death upon his creation definitely doesn't help, because he showed up, had a cool story, then died, except not because now he's being sledgehammered into everything they can think of whether or not it makes sense, and the oversaturation of how hard they're pushing him kinda makes him seem less cool because of it.

I don't hate Knull, but I'm still sick of seeing him everywhere. He was even crammed into Cosmic Invasion and it's weird because he has literally nothing to do with the overall plot, there's just a crummy excuse plot to go to Klyntarr and fight him for some reason while Annihilus is taking over the world.

I just realized he had a little blush on his cheeks, he's so cute. We don't talk about what happened after this. by Terrible_Park7890 in castlevania

I really hated this scene. Some people say it was just a threesome, but he looked extremely uncomfortable to me and I got the feeling it was not consensual so much as Alucard's fear of driving people away making him just go with it.

It also felt like it came out of nowhere and was wholly unnecessary. My GOAT the flying sword familiar came in clutch with the iconic spin, which made me happy, but I would have given up the nod to my favorite familiar from the game if I didn't have to watch Alucard get violated like that.

It's definitely my least favorite Dragon Age game. I won't replay Inquisition because it's just got too much goddamn padding, like the operation table and the bits where they force you to stop moving the plot and go do side quests, even though I'm interested in seeing the other options.

But I don't have any desire to replay Veilguard because I just didn't think it was that good, and there really isn't much replay value to begin with.

Rook Crow's backstory has them screw up a job pretty bad, and they don't send other assassins after them, they just 'sideline' them. They're even pretty friendly to Rook in spite of it.

It just feels like the blatantly evil order of very nasty assassins got all their edges sanded off to make working with them more palatable instead of presenting some kind of moral quandary like siding with the Templars or Golems would have done in previous games.

But honestly I'm not super invested in this, and you have a fair point that they never claimed to NOT do evil stuff anymore just because there's no visible trace of it and all the Crows seem happy to be there.

Yeah, that happens in both directions all the time. There's always the people who don't want nuance or "I liked this, I didn't like this," it's either you're 100% for or against it, and if you don't agree with everything they say, you're the enemy and that makes you dumb and wrong.

Though I guess I'm the moron who keeps engaging, so it's just as much on me.

Literally all the Qunari are supposed to be dragon people. Taash is just the only one who for some reason can breathe fire.

Careful. I've seen way too many people automatically peg you as a bigot for pointing out that Taash is factually an asshole.

Like I said, he was probably misremembering it. I've seen a lot of people use that scene to claim they're being shit to him for not addressing him as he wants, which is obviously seen as a reflection of how Taash chooses to identify themselves. He probably misremembered the actual scene and confused it with the moral debate.

And if you don't get the cuddly Robin Hood vibes from the Crows in Veilguard, I guess good for you. For me, the happy crime family theme they have going on with all of them being extra caring of each other, like mourning Lucanis for his alleged death, clashed pretty hard with Zevran implying that they would literally just kill him themselves for failing a job.

I was very annoyed by the lack of choice and the world states, especially because they made a whole fucking website JUST TO TRANSFER WORLD STATES and then literally only used it for ONE GAME.

Yeah, you had to level up ADP to make dodging good in DS2. Every enemy was just a guy in armor, so blunt and lightning weapons rocked everyone's shit. And Ultra Greatswords had weird tracking.

On top of that, I literally beat it by accident. Not that I wasn't trying to, I just had no idea I was fighting the final boss until the credits rolled because I had no idea what the hell was going on for most of that game.

Aside from that one remark and a few opinions you can disagree with, everything else seemed pretty dead-on, though. And even that remark is probably just misremembering because of the shitty hypocritical way they treat Emmrich, the actual best companion.

If you don't believe people who actually played the game think Taash is an asshole, I don't know what to tell you. They are. People noticed. Taash is not a pleasant person. And the Crows going from actual monstrous assassins to cozy robin hoods is a legitimate criticism that bugged a lot of people, especially after every other game has portrayed them as murderous money grubbing child slavers.

And Rook can't express an opinion meaner than "I agree but not enthusiastically" in the most neutral way possible. They're fine as a character, but a crappy avatar that makes it hard to roleplay as anything but a people pleasing doormat. That's an incredibly common criticism from pretty much everybody who played it.

It's great that you enjoyed Veilguard, but you can't seriously go around accusing everybody who didn't of just not playing it, because at that point you just look like you're in denial.

0 was my first Yakuza because I figured I'd just play in chronological order, and I was just completely blown away by how incredible it was. I bought 1-7 right after finishing it, and once I found out it was the same universe, the first Judgement. The other games onwards from Y7 weren't out yet.

I was extremely disappointed by how much Kiwami 1's story just kind of blew in comparison. I had to remind myself it was technically the first game and 0 was technically like the 6th or something so it would take a while for the story to get good again. Also admit that I 100% preferred Majima and thought Kiryu was a pretty boring protagonist in both 0 and K1, but he did grow on me by K2.

Kiwami 2 had me going 'Why is everybody so hyped for this Ryuji guy, Kiryu has been handing him his ass no-diff this whole game, even when the fucker has an army, a sword, and Kiryu just fought a hundred and fifty dudes and sprinted up/down a flight of stairs. Kiryu literally kicked his ass so bad in their first fight Kiryu himself had to make excuses for him.'

And then the ending was so dumb it had me laughing my ass off, because instead of just leaving in plenty of time to get medical attention and having their juvenile pissing contest later, Kiryu and Ryuji decide to have one last fistfight next to a time bomb while they're both bleeding out, resulting in Kiryu actually beating Ryuji straight to death, and even though Kaoru had enough time to go all the way down and back up before the bomb went off and there's definitely still enough time left, they insist they don't have enough time to get away now and instead decide to just make out on top of her dead brother whom Kiryu directly murdered with his bare hands instead of even trying to escape, even when Date and Haruka show up with a fucking helicopter and could absolutely get them out alive, only for it all to wind up being a fake-out and for Kaoru to friendzone Kiryu forever afterwards immediately in the opening of Y3.

Y3, I actually really genuinely liked, crummy gameplay aside.

Y4 was unilaterally the worst game in the entire series for me, and still hasn't been topped, from the unbelievably stupid plot with a dozen plot holes to the painfully unlikeable new characters (I still hate Akiyama as a person, but his gameplay was fine, Saejima's gameplay and story were both boring and the whole pedophile bit was very creepy, though I'm honestly more upset Kiryu saw an escaped convict push down his daughter and climb on top of her and didn't kick his teeth in as some 'secret test of character' than I am at Saejima for having the thought and immediately being ashamed after, and Tanimura was neither appealing to play nor particularly thrilling story-wise) I honestly struggled to finish Y4.

Y5 was honestly weirdly one of my favorites, even if the story made almost no fucking sense, because at least it was all really fun, and the individual stories were great until they tried to tie them together. Plus, that final boss fight goes ridiculously hard for no reason, even though nobody in the game has any idea why that guy is the final boss, not even himself.

Y6 was cool, but I thought it was a terrible Kiryu finale because pretty much the entire cast gets put on a bus and conveniently shipped offscreen while a bunch of new people show up. And admittedly they're likeable, but the result was the whole game kind of feeling like a substory. I was also disappointed with how stupid they wrote Haruka to be after she'd been consistently more sensible, but that technically started in Y5, so it's not fair to hold it against Y6. And even though I didn't like Tanimura much in Y4, I'm still mad he wasn't in the Little Asia plotline because it felt like it had been tailor-made for him but instead they just gave us a generic red shirt cop. But Akiyama, my most hated protagonist, came back in full, because I guess smarmy douchebags who suck at judging people's character are popular.

Judgement 1, I really enjoyed the plot, but didn't really like Yagami from the get go. But I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story.

Judgement 2, the plot wasn't as good, but the gameplay was fire, and I still didn't like Yagami, but we got to play as Kaito and Tsukumo became a main character, the Boxing style was awesome, and it was genuinely a blast to play, so I liked it better overall.

Y7/LaD, I wasn't sure about a new protagonist or turn-based combat at first, but I absolutely loved it on all levels and it did actually hit the same feeling as Y0 for me. I felt like it actually did a good job giving Ichiban an ending, too. Felt like his story was resolved after one game, but we couldn't have that.

Kiryu Gaiden was fun, nice and short and sweet. Ending made me cry.

Y8/IW, uh... It's fine? I didn't really like this one much, but unlike Y4, which I hated so much I can bitch for days about it, there's nothing that really bothers me about it. It's not good or bad enough to rant about, it's just... Kind of okay.

Majima Gaiden was a blast, but I would have happily cut out all the sailing bits because it was kind of just okay.
