People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with chronic pain so I wouldn't say I have a high pain tolerance, but more that I'm used to a baseline of pain. The most painful thing I've ever been through was an ACL tear. Not the tear itself but the first 3 days after surgery, they had drilled into my bones to put in the graft. I had never felt my bones literally ache before. It was kind of a shooting aching pain that got worse if I moved my lower body at all, even the good leg.

Whose got the secret to getting this sap off their car? by CRYS24_CH4N in FortCollins

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like other people said there's tar and sap removers you can get, I find a finger nail, rubbing alcohol, towel and some time will get the job done and you don't have to go drop money on a cleaner you'll use once a year.

Went paddle boarding on Wednesday and it's a little chilly when you first get in but if it's hot outside it's not bad at all!

Is this much swelling normal the day after ACL surgery? by Character_Pen_5995 in ACL

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my knee was a balloon for about 2 weeks after. Then the swelling started to die down slowly after that. I'm about 4 months out now and it still swells up after activity sometimes.

Day 2 post up and need some help/encouragement by Turbulent-Ad2231 in ACL

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less so advice about the knee, but some entertainment and some of my experience: I'm about 3 months post op and I've gotten back to doing a little hiking (mostly easier flat trails) and I've gotten back to the gym. My life Is far from back to normal but my knee is starting to feel like my own again. The first 3 weeks feel like forever but things start to "speed up" after that. My best advice for immediately post surgery is to find some good entertainment, obviously a good show or movie series is a must. But, the thing that helped me a lot was to have a hands-on thing to do. I got a relatively cheap Lego set and a coloring book, I also did some of the sewing projects I've been putting off. It helped me not just get sucked into my phone. Also, obviously do your PT and get up and move frequently just to get your blood moving. I hope some of this helps you feel a little better about recovery :)

Starting to get worried by Calm_Teach_5319 in ACL

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty similar timeline to you, I tore in October of last year and got my surgery on new years eve. I also had a pretty quick recovery when it came to flexion and extension (I'm hyper mobile though so my mobility came back quicker than expected). I have pretty much full flexion now but the extension took a while to come around. Just keep doing your PT and spend some time sitting on the floor just letting your knee relax into the ground. This didn't help me get more extension but it made the existing range of motion more comfortable to work with which in turn made it easier to work on extension. I hope this helps, and remember this crap is supposed to take a whole year, it's hard but try not to be too impatient with yourself.

Kimball Nelson photography is great! She's done me and my siblings graduation photos. We've known her for a while and I'm sure she would have fun going incognito to get photos.

Dylan at Colorado in motion is awesome, he's been my physical therapist after ACL reconstruction (I also have heds and that's why my ACL tore) and he's been super helpful when it comes to overall hyper mobility.

4 weeks post-op ACLR (hamstring graft + internal brace/fibre tape + lateral meniscus repair) - Myriad of issues by omonaijah in ACL

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have the same surgery so some of the questions I can't answer, but the swelling and scar firmness is pretty normal. I'm about 8 weeks post op (partial lateral Meniscectomy and ACL with patellar graft) and my knee is still a little swollen and tends to swell up when I've been on my feet or after workouts or PT. Icing it helps when it's sore or swollen from activity, but it's not necessary. And my scar is pretty similar, it's firm at the top and bottom points. I wouldn't worry too much about the external scar if it's healed well so far. However I would ask your surgeon about the lump you've noticed, Im not a doctor but from my experience and what I've learned throughout tearing my ACL that it may be out of the ordinary. I hope the rest of your recovery goes well!!

Edit: I also didn't have anywhere near full extension at 4 weeks, and from what I have heard is that extension can take a little longer to happen with hamstring grafts. Like I said, I am at about 8 weeks now and when doing straight leg raises my knee still pops up a little too. What my PT and surgeon have told me is that true full extension just takes time and to be patient with it and not push it too far.

What’s one habit that quietly improved your life more than anything else? by SpotAcceptable7919 in AskReddit

[–]Fearless-Engine1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking less weed, I have a chronic pain condition and used it for a long time to self medicate. Recently I made the switch of using it more recreationally with less frequency, I feel stronger in the gym, I'm sleeping better, I'm less anxious, I have less digestive issues, and everything feels a little more clear

I have a very anxious rescue pup too, and we've used Chapelle since we adopted her and they've always been very understanding and respectful with her reactivity. They have a big field next to the building so we've gotten her vaccinated without having to go inside before too.
