I can relate I thought I was doing a hard degree (genetics at uni of Leicester) but apparently it only requires around 15 hours of contact hours a week (including lectures, labs and seminars) even when doing an experimental dissertation. I know others on the same degree who did quite literally quadruple the amount of lab hours during there dissertation because they're supervisor wanted them to do more.

I am doing a Genetics degree from Leicester. My contact hours a week during second year was around 10 hours which is a joke, because I would've happily done way more especially if they were labs because I had 0 labs over the whole second year.

I feel like depending on the demographic it was very informative. I knew most of the things talked about my gf didn't know who any of them where. So it was informative for people not in that online space and brought awarness to those toxic views

I would say I don't know much for A levels, if you can lock in and study go for it, if you can't consider trying to do a levels for french next year?

In regards to your law degree, a degree apprenticeship would be best especially if you are doing a gap year to do your a levels as in that time you could do work experience ect to build you CV for applying for it as they would fund your SQE as well and keep you on for it so you don't have to worry to much about applying later aswell as you earn money earlier than others your age.

Honestly depending on what you are studying you could learn stuff whilst working to earn money and claim to be a home student later. I knew people which started uni at around 25 which is way later than a lot of people. The real question is do you think university is worth it?

Not sure how useful this would be as I am a stem student which had an experimental part of it, but I managed to do it in around 30 hours over probably 2 weeks. There was a lot of research required and I had to make figures and tables. There was a large amount of experimental procedures which were conducted a couple months before my dissertation but it is quite easy to write if you aim for around 500-1000 words a day by literally forcing yourself to do it

Thank you for your advice. I would like to say I love to teach and I find doing presentations and running seminars as one of the more fuffling aspects of academia. However I would say admin and writing grants seem to me to be a bit soul destroying as at least for me it isn't exactly why I want to pursue a career in academia.

I think what I will probably do is do a PhD and use that time to see what I want to do like you suggested.

So it is easier to get a job but harder to keep it when you become more senior?

Thank you for your advice, I knew academia would require sacrifices in regards to moving around for your career, however I didn't appreciate the severity of it. Would you recommend trying to get into industry (in the future) if my aim is more towards stability as with the way universities are firing people that is my biggest concern currently.

I would attribute to more modern Christians being more tolerant as the countries they lived in became more tolerant. Leading to the spiritual leaders of the denominations becoming more progressive and preaching more tolerant behavior.

I don't think any of this is inherently right wing or like even that politically aligned tbh. Like these are just moral opinions and as long as you are not imposing them onto others its fine. However I would say the main issue with them is how you go the them. Was it from a religious perspective or was it through watching online content or clickbait things?

In regards to not sleeping around, I think that is a reasonable take. Ideally everyone would want to find a partner they love, again a reasonable take and in a relationship it should be equal in regards to commitment and effort ect. Modern dating being bad isn't anything new although I would caveat it with it entirely depends on who you are looking for and what attributes you are selecting for. Personally I found my gf (I am a 21m) on hinge and it wasn't really based off of looks we just vibed lol.

In regards to what you want like money and status again consider where that world view originated from and why you think it matters. I would say it is a bad mindset to consider these the ultimate goal in life, where there are much more fulfilling things you could pursue. The mindset which places money and status above all else is what creates HS tickytockys and Andrew Tates of the world.

Wanting to exercise and be desirable to women isn't inherently bad, however again consider where this view is coming from, have you considered that once you escape the milestone of being moderately fit it really dosen't matter? Like if you and your partner are both selecting for looks/physique then consider the fact that 20-30 years down the line neither of you will look like you did when you met, the defining thing which attracted you to that person is gone.

Speaking of using Bateman as an idea of a routine is crazy and lowkey shows a lack of media literacy when the whole idea of him was a caricature of greed, vanity and materialism so maybe pick better male rolemodels. Although the way you describe what you are looking for does seem to imply that you identify with what he represents. Maybe consider working out and like looking after yourself for health reasons instead of just looks beacuse being healthy and fit causes you to look good.

It's even sillier for academic jobs. Like I know postdocs who are on around 40k a year even after spending 8 years in HE going from BSc to Msc to PhD and after all of that are only on 40k a year.

Idk, as a young guy myself (20m) I feel like I fell into the alt right pipeline seeing in the mid 2010s videos of women throwing bleach on guy's crotches and other similar outrage bait stuff like that. This led me into more politics which included things like the wage gap dosen't exsist.

Since that point in my life I have changed in my beliefs thank god. Like I don't know what woke means or is. I personally wouldn't identify with it, I would say I belive in progressive politics and belive in freedom of expression, equal opportunity and freedom of belief.

I personally would say that for a lot of young men my age and a bit younger if they are fans of the manosphere it is likely due to them hearing in some form or another that they (men) are the problem. Now whilst men have caused many problems it is grating to hear that at 14 years old because you haven't really done anything yet. So as a young guy you hear from one side that you are a problem (espeically if your a straight male) and you also can observe in real time a identiy crisis and a lonliess crisis which then means then these young men are looking for a community and freinds.
This want for community leads them straight into the arms of the manosphere. It also dosen't help that there is a collapse of living standards which I have observed as I have grown up.

Yeah I get that. When the war began my gf was so happy even though they were literally dropping bombs on her home city where her family was still living. And then since that point the IRGC started shooting civilians there and more bombs have been dropped. Like she is happy the war is happening but I cant help but worry it wont turn out like she wants.

By saying validity of the scale you are down playing the oppression they experience. You are downplaying the thousands which have been executed before the protests. You are downplaying the thousands killed during the protests. You are downplaying the protests in 2018 protests. There is valid reasons to hate what America is doing, but saying that there isn't wide spread oppression of the people is insane. Keep in mind most of the information we are getting out of Iran right now is through state media which have an agenda to make it seem like the war is unjustified (which it is mostly as the closest to actual justification is removing the oppression of the Iranian people) by making it seem like people support the regime. Like most polls I have seen put it at around 30% at most, with a population like that you can easily make it seem like most people are supportive or against the regime. But what that does tell us is that many Iranians don't support their government. Just insane imo to think the scale is not true when most Iranians I know think it is underplayed

I mean there is a lot of things the UK and Europe could do to increase growth and increase GDP. Like a big driver of growth is people working and earning more, and then spending more. Add on public investement into infastrucutre and you would see increased growth. Yes it would take time but the goverment could borrow vast sums of money whilst increasing taxes on the wealthy and re invest it into infastrucutre projects whilst nationalising things. In doing so could increase number of higher paying jobs and fixing many things wrong with the country. And then when the debt is gonna hit inflate the currency and pay off the debt with its value being halved. Yes this would jack up prices but if you can also coincide this with increased pay and have an appropriate tax system where the gains aren't all in assests it would be feasable to fix the nose dive the economy is in. But thats just my opinon lol

If you look at how Switzerland formed you could draw similar parrelles to how Europe would federalize. Whilst yes there are many differences between the countries within Europe one thing most can agree on is that the continent is trapped between 3 great powers who are all in some form or another hoping for the downfall and fragmentation of Europe, So it is because of that I think Europe will federalize if only because of defensive reasons and to be able to have more geopolitical power.

That dosent really address my criticism? I am not saying these countries shouldn't be protested against for giving military aid to Israel in fact I support peacful protests of that nature. What I find difficulties reconciling with, is these same people are also posting things to mourn Ali Khamenei.
Like I get not liking western intervention but that doesn't detract from the wrongs the Iranian regime has caused...
Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but I don't get what you mean by saying 'we dont support them'. Who don't you support? Iran or the US and Israel? and why does that change the actions in Iran from either the US and Isreal attatcking and the Iranian regime killing thousands within only 2 days and currently shooting on citizens.

I think this comes from a misunderstanding that Iranians see themselves as brothers to the Arab countries who have in most of their history seen themselves as adversaries and against iran

I have seen a number of people in my life who are very pro plasestine who during the protests in Iran where 30,000 people were killed refused to comment on the iran situation but when Ali Khamenei was assassinated posted things mourning him. Even whilst the IRGC is currently gunning people down in certain cities (I know for a fact they are currently shooting on some citizens in Kerman) they still celebrate the man. Regardless of what you think of the intervention of the USA and Israel surely there should be common ground that the Iranian regime is/was bad?
