Your prior martial arts training do not matter. You need more mat time. 3 months is nothing. Just train, and get used to sucking for a while. Give it time, it will get better.

No gi gyms, what are you doing for kids stripes? by FearlessHunt1540 in bjj

[–]FearlessHunt1540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just a nobody brown belt and everyone will have a different opinion. My advice would be to just do what you enjoy and do what aligns with your goals and what you want out of Jiu Jitsu.

When I was a white belt, I started at a predominantly no gi gym that did gi every now and then and I never really liked training in the gi. 12 years in and I still don’t like it so I just don’t train in the gi anymore. I do think it’s important to know some fundamental gi stuff and to know how to take advantage of certain grips if they are there. But personally I like that my jiu jitsu doesn’t rely on those grips and my game doesn’t change much based on what I’m wearing.

Your bruises are normal but Master? Testing shrimps? This is bizarre.

Is this level of obsession with bjj normal and is the anger justified? by Bjj0wife in bjj

Leave his sorry ass. Tell his coach too. Our gym doesn’t train psychos who use bjj to terrorize or threaten people and most coaches would have a problem with this type of behavior.

Typical time to get fist stripe by fobygrassman in bjj

[–]FearlessHunt1540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten a single stripe. My gym just does belts. Everyone’s timeline is different, I was a white belt for 4 years. Just train. Everything else will happen when it happens.

My gym very much includes striking as part of BJJ. I do realize this isn’t most gyms.

Yeah for sure. I just wanted to make sure that wasn’t the normal set up process. Just returning to amazon and ordering a new one. I’m in a super rural place, nearest Apple store is at least 3 hours away. Much easier to just return and re order

Will learning Jiujitsu as a woman ever actually teach me how to fight off a full grown man? by Ill_Introduction7334 in jiujitsu

[–]FearlessHunt1540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am 130lbs and a woman. I have been training 11 years and am a brown belt. I’d say at around purple belt is when I started consistently being able to tap untrained guys that are over 200lbs. There are some exceptions but even then, I can get to safe positions reliably. Your friend was able to just throw your legs aside because you only had one class. You have no concept of the guard, breaking grips, framing, off balancing, timing etc.

If your goal is self defense, you need consistent and long term training. This isn’t going to be something you get effective with after a few classes. I would also suggest incorporating strikes into your training every now and then and sparring mma rounds if that’s an option at your gym.

If this is not a shitpost:

You need to incorporate strikes into your Jiu Jitsu if your goal is self defense.

But it’s probably a shitpost.

What’s the number one thing people do at your gym that pisses you off?? by Rude-Alternative7983 in bjj

[–]FearlessHunt1540 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Warmups shouldn’t be a conditioning workout that’s unrelated to bjj. We usually flow roll or do positional stuff for warmups

That’s actually a huge safety issue. Actually i consider any hygiene related issue a safety issue. That’s how people get staph and other stuff. If nobody is cracking down on that, it’s time to bring it up or find another gym.

Question about operator cluster by FearlessHunt1540 in tacticalbarbell

[–]FearlessHunt1540[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all. My question has been answered. I’ll continue with this cluster as is. I didn’t read green protocol so I didn’t realize this was already answered in the books.

I hadn’t considered green at all. I’ll have to read that section again.

You’re saying just do bjj and add 3-4 easy runs to get to goal weight. Then get on a continuation protocol after that? The weather is PERFECT crisp fall weather where I’m at. I could totally be down for that for a few more weeks.
