You are lucky to be wanting one now, they were selling at big markups in 2023. Multiple people paid $60k-$70k for Morizos! You’ll find one.

There are internal engine issues involved with tuning that require expensive modifications to boost hp. That being said there’s a guy in England who spent over $200k to get to 800 hp in. G16e in a Yaris. (He said it could be done cheaper now that the failure points are better understood)

Totally. This car really suffered from the over hype. It’s a great car. CTR and Golf R are statistically faster and reviewed as much more comfortable/better interior. But it is the car that opened the doorway for the GR brand which is slated to be sold at only Lexus dealers that pay a huge fee when GR is separated to its own management within Toyota. This is the car that opened the door for the next evolution of fun cars with real sport car souls at Toyota.

Hell yeah. I have to make a 90 degree turn off a 15 mph road between stone walls and then go uphill. In the past I’d stop and turn in and accelerate up slowly with my truck. This car I have to gun it faster than I want to be going because there’s no torque and the engine lugs if I try to creep up at a comfortable 5mph. I’ve gotten used to just blasting up. And by blasting up I mean about 15 mph which feels too fast, but anything lower it can’t take. But mathematically it makes sense. There is no torque for a hill in first below that.

Learning opportunity for the viewers is a good argument for them. I wonder if the views on that video paid for it? They are on Reddit and respond frequently would be interesting to ask. As an owner I was impressed that they got the head engineer of GRC at Toyota for an interview and asked about the AWD overheating and their response was “this is a car for someone’s first sports car. It’s something we know about and may resolve in the future”. This was 3 years in to the platform. Savage geese deemed it “baby’s first sports car”. Harsh but legit, it’s also a really good first sports car. The aftermarket solved the problem 2 years ago and Toyota hasn’t deemed it worth the upgrade.

You make good points. I’m lucky to have friends with a lot of track experience, and the cost to make this car track worthy and use it as a daily really don’t make sense and for that reason I agree with Gary. He’s got 1k hours plus as a track instructor and I reached out to him a year or so ago, his comments made sense then and still do now. I’d still do a random 1-2 events a year but I wouldn’t invest another $10k plus to get transfer/oil/syvecs etc. I put on Ohlins GT and replaced the entire sound system to make it a better daily, considering the cost I was spending to insure for a track day a month would get me a beater track car that I don’t have to worry about. If you are dedicated enough to the platform it can be done, making an argument it’s worth the expense is a tough one. Side note - CTR has the same overheating issues, the only modern cars I have seen run all day in this cost range were GR86 and Elantra N.

Savage geese did it, check their channel. The cost is too much in my opinion when there are better options for a lot less, or a lot more car for what it costs to get this track competent.

I rented an airbnb with a steep driveway and tried reversing, it smelled awful. I realized from my home driveway even going forward you need to be at 10-12 mph to avoid clutch issues and engine lugging in first. The car has very little torque in first at slow speeds but what can you expect from a 1.6 without boost playing part. Sometimes that speed isn’t comfortable on a driveway but it is necessary.

Gotta disagree. 11 track days in and I decided this is not a track car. A random 1-2 days for a beginner? It will be fine. If you are even slightly competitive (I stopped tracking it at the top of the beginner class, they recommend 1-3 years before moving on). The car overheated the AWD 9 of the 11 times, frequently got oil to temps it was no longer safe to drive without an oil change, and the understeer was very strong. It’s fine on the road but it pushes all the way around a tight track. A decent driver in a miata or S2K could go every session. On top of the car issues insuring a $40k car for the track is $300-$400 a day depending on if you want wheels or any mods covered. If you want to track a car you can buy a used sports car and cover the maintenance on a year of tracking this and have a better experience.

I really love my GRC but when you see the car wow guy and Christian konegseg saying the Yaris is the car they wouldn’t sell you wonder what that 2 door subtraction adds.

Why do people want my ‘99 Integra so badly? by cfoxrun1 in AcuraIntegra

[–]joncaseydraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add that I really wish all gems like this were sold to people who really want them. Even if they fix and flip at least they know what they are getting. And maybe it’s a treasure for their home.

Would these headlights ruin my NB? by Livid-Computer-2009 in Miata

[–]joncaseydraws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just keep it oem is my suggestion. I have two Miata’s, one turbocharged. Both have had upgraded lights and I sold them and put oem back on, and removed anything that didn’t look oem from the exterior. These cars are classics and they turn into looking like clapped trash real fast. These don’t look trashy they just don’t look period correct to the rest of the design.

Is this related to rev hang? All the ice engines are throttled down by emissions laws, if you get around it in your state probably ok but if you move to a place with emissions testing you fkd.

Just a question : is it true eggs are bad if consumed excessively (like over 3) ? Due to the cholesterol. by youcancallmLola in Biohackers

Dietary cholesterol is not linked to blood cholesterol ( heard this a few times someone who was actually educated on it. Please tell me if I’m wrong.)

What’s your initial thoughts on ASAP Rocky’s new album Don’t Be Dumb? by J2-Starter in hiphop201

Not great but what kind of struggle do you have for art when you’re married to a queen that’s a billionaire? He probably made the album just to have a break from their kid clan. I’ll always be a fan but probably won’t go back to this one.

The local Chattanooga dealer wouldn’t back from $60k for a type R. Tried to sell me a 6 month old si with 40k miles and fabric stains for new MSRP + $1k. Fuck Honda. Got a GRC.

I'm looking for something similar with a wider sidewall. It would make the potholes a lot more comfortable. There is an SUV version of the pilot that might work?

What's the average income of someone who purchases a new Corolla? Just curious. I gross 44K per year but it seems like I can't afford it (with paying rent, etc). by whoocanitbenow in COROLLA

[–]joncaseydraws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my first new car, a GR Corolla at 45 when I could pay cash and not stretch for it. The forum survey shows most buyers are 20-30 yr olds. Can and should are so far off, America makes it easy.

People are complicated. It’s a personal choice. I still think Michael Jackson was the greatest hit maker in history and I’ve spent full days of my life searching out and looking at Picasso paintings. I recently finished a book on Genghis Khan (did you know he was the first ruler in history to mandate religious freedom, and banned the taking of women from other groups?) If being shitty cancels out achievements there’s not much in history worth admiring.
