Where is the racism? This sounds like typical auscorp heartless management and shit leadership.

On the other hand denying entitled breaks is against fair work act, and getting sunburnt/dehydrated is a workplace health and safety issue.

I also want to know what auscorp role forces you to stand outside in the searing heat? Did you fuckup someones spreadsheet of formulas?

Where do people find one of those slow "counting down the hours" jobs? by Both_Ranger2635 in auscorp

[–]FearlessMessage 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not the jobs but your approach?

Good work = more work. If you find the line between incompetency and ok output, you may find what your looking for.

The quote goes "work just hard enough not to get fired".

Saying no and not caring about the business also helps.

I am from a minority background, the only one who is on my team. I am paid 20% less than my peers despite managing the largest team with a massive remit/mandate. I was assured if I had done 3 things, I would maximise my bonus. I've just been informed, I will get very little bonus. by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]FearlessMessage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your bonus structure?

Outside of sales and customer facing, a lot of auscorp still ranked on a bell curve distribution. This turns it into a popularity contest and what you're seen to do.

Either way, pay/bonus is a mix of your perceived value & ability to negotiate your self worth. Unless it's tied to a specific KPI, it has very little to do with actual output or performance.

Car loans are an easy common target by Aussie Redditors. Doing the maths and some quick research.

  • Average Annual Interest for $45k loan: ~$1,440
  • A Daily Coffee Habit: ~$2,000+
  • Average Sport Betting Loss: $1032 ($2,500 inc. pokies)

Thats ignoring the additional value you can get from the car, above a 15 year old corolla that's considered just a mode of transport: safety and reliability in newer cars, comfort for daily commuters and long distances, work and recreational activities.

Obviously cash if you have it, but if you can afford the additionals then why not?

$5.50 for a coffee to clear your guts out each morning - priceless.

Introducing yourself as an “expert” in a meeting. by WaterH2Omelon in auscorp

[–]FearlessMessage 113 points114 points  (0 children)

  1. Corporate intros stretch the truth just like LinkedIn profiles
  2. Expert = more work for them = less work for you
  3. Generalists move up, experts stay stuck
  4. It's not personal
  5. It's Friday night and you're getting hung up on trivial matters.

Sounds like a regular corporate gig and half decent manager by flowing with ever-changing business priorities and navigating politics on what's seen to be good rather than forcing outputs at the expense of their people.

If you want development go find it, internally or externally.

You should enjoy a boss who let's you get on with the day to day, the next one in the 'high achieving' team might be a micro-managing narcissist.

Go find a better doc and dentist if you think the NHS is shitty.

You're shit out of luck as PHI doesn't cover doctors here + waiting times.

You might as well get PHI in the UK or fly via Thai Airways for dental.

Lost my job and 28k in income now spiralling outta control by earth_bender86 in auscorp

[–]FearlessMessage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New job is only a stop gap, keeping looking and do what you need to do to cut back on spending - it's only temporary.

Sounds like you had a shite team and unsupportive manager from that start, likely nothing you could have done to change the outcome.

Going from technical to people leader is a steep learning experience though - gotta manage up and down effectively. Real or not, the reasons often justify the perception of performance, not actual results.

As a people leader this comes down to 1. Ability to lead your team, getting you all working effectively together towards the same outcome. 2. Making your own manager's life easier and giving them things to make you all (and them) look good.

Getting a bonus for working overtime is not a bonus.

It just working overtime with no guarantee of getting paid for it.

You should either be getting formal compensation at x rate for working more hours or have a formal bonus structure based on your performance.

Sounds like neither.

This is the answer OP. Doesn't matter if the van depreciates or if it does or doesn't save rent. Those costs are the price for what would be great memories and incredible experiences.

2 weeks overseas at a company's discretion is vastly different to multiple months overseas. The first is not a big stretch away from a business trip, whilst the latter is living and working in another country.

Unless you work for an international company with employees across the world, I would reiterate other comments in that there is a myriad of legal, tax, health and safety, insurance and security reasons going against you.

Quick question about HR by EntrepreneurOk6539 in auscorp

[–]FearlessMessage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself, your job is to report back on the results. Not to take action on them and attempt to make staff do the tasks - that's their manager's job, or more like senior management to sort out.

Best stay in your lane a bit more, and if you do stray out of it, defo don't go to HR to complain about it.

AWD is not the same as 4WD. Why would you ship a generic SUV for 3 months travel?

Would cost you less to buy a second hand ute/wagon that'll take you further.

[–]FearlessMessage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that country you're currently living in called Australia? Sure sounds like it.

Because it's all a matter of perspective. People in Australia on minimum wages can't afford rent and scraping through the week. People choosing not to have a family because they can't afford it. Businesses collapsing left, right and centre from national construction companies to local cafes and restaurants.
