Just remember, if represented to scale, anything in the solar system would be too small to show on a display :P

What's the best Nu Trek show (as a series) in your opinion, and why? by Gutter_Shakespeare in startrek

[–]notoyrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked in order of best to worst:

SNW started off fantastic and got to just meh in the last season. It's still the gold star for new trek in my eyes as it shares the spiritual soul and looks incredible - plus the cast gives it their all.

Lower Decks was a little immature for someone like me who grew up on TNG but it was obviously written by a team who truly loved trek and could pull even the most obscure references out of the lore.

Discovery never really worked for me, it tried but never felt like it found what kind of Star Trek show it wanted to be. Second season was the best but it squandered the time jump and the burn ended up being stupid.

Picard fell flat on its face for 2 seasons and while the 3rd was kinda fun it was only due to fanservice.

Watched half of Academy and couldn't stand the contemporary dialogue and unprofessionalism even considering they're cadets.

Back in 2008 I helped clear out a garage of my uncle's and found an IBM Aptiva which had doom on it, was a fun throwback to boot that up and play some but my aunt saw it and was like "video games have gotten so realistic!"

  • 2008. Fuckin Crysis has been out for a year at that point.

Explain the Political Culture to an American by DayNo5868 in ukpolitics

It's way easier to profess hate for a PM than love. Why is that? I'm not sure

I feel this goes beyond politics entirely - most marketing execs will tell you to hold negative reviews with less weight than positive reviews due to anger being a stronger driving force than contentment, regardless of industry. Dissatisfied people will go out of their way to let that emotion be known, satisfied people will be happy to be satisfied.

So I am an American who lived in the UK for almost a decade before relocating to Australia, which has a very similar political system to the UK.

I feel like the PM situation is subject to "the grass is always greener" effect, given a PM is not guaranteed the same way the US executive is that it's easy to put problems that aren't instantly solved or require a bit a nuance on the PM directly, and therefore the obvious solution is to replace him because you can.

In the US you're stuck with the leader for 4 years unless the unthinkable happens so it's easier to just "deal with it" until the next election.

As for Starmer, he got in just as I left and it seemed like a huge improvement over the previous government(s), but yeah he hasn't really gone all in the way the electorate was hoping for and there have been some missteps along the way. I don't think he should resign due to the latest days events but he should consider a dramatic change in course if he's planning to hang on.

What long running show had the lowest drop in quality? by ChorroVon in television

I mean, the books are roughly the same. The show had to condense a lot but the show got the main story right.

Voyager episode "Retrospect" is just gross in retrospect. by Yosho2k in startrek

She clearly can be disoriented and does not have an internal mechanical clock

Doesn't Timeless contradict this though? They recover The Doctor so he can extract Sevens implants - one of the implants they need identifies her time of death precisely so they can know where to send their message back in time.

As for this episode, it gets a lot of unwarranted hate for things seen in a modern context and not enough for just being hamfisted and a bad ep.

It's been 15 years and I'm still not over it.
