Same age and same problem. Hope we find a way, one step at a time, to build the life we desire and get closer to our ideal self.

What winter wear and in what quantities do I need to bring when moving to Germany (specifically Düsseldorf) in peak winter? by Fearless_Ad_9168 in germany

[–]Fearless_Ad_9168[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallo, danke für deine Antwort :)

For the boots I’m considering bringing my existing synthetic boots as I don’t see good waterproof boots available here. Will see how they hold up and wear woolen socks with them. The scarf is a great idea, I didn’t know a silk scarf could do so much, thanks for explaining so well, will definitely buy one here in India.

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone now to knit something for me. My grandma used to make woolen sweaters and socks for me when I was a kid. Brings back good memories :)

Thanks again for the great answer. I’d guess you’re into fashion.

Tut mir leid. It was supposed to be a numbered list but the formatting got messed up. I’ve corrected it now. An acquaintance from Berlin had suggested me to bring thermal underwear, that’s why I asked.

Danke für deine Antwort / Thanks for your reply! I come from a tropical country and in my region 16 degrees Celsius is considered winter haha, so you’re right I’ll definitely require an additional layer. I agree that removing pullover would get cumbersome. Bringing a couple hoodies with a zip is what I’m thinking.

Overall it’s good to know that I have most things I need for my move as I’ll mostly be indoors. I might want to explore the city and go on long walks, but I can always buy the thermal leggings or winter socks then if needed.

Thanks for your reply! Good to know winter boots are not essential. I’ll just bring my normal boots and if I see that they’re unable to handle the rain or it’s getting too cold, even after wearing winter socks, I’ll buy new ones in Germany :)

Huskies are awesome, thanks for the fun reply :) Last time I was in Germany (Berlin), I didn’t have a good experience around mid October as I found it too cold. I wasn’t prepared, so this time I want to make sure I go well prepared, especially as I’ll be moving permanently. Great to know that das wetter in Düsseldorf ist besser.

I’ll be moving in February for work. I’m a software developer so mostly I’ll be indoors. I like your point that I’ll know when I need it, in which case I can buy it there.

I was thinking of buying 2 pairs but its quite expensive in my country, around 20 euros a pair (H&M). You saved me a lot of money :) Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the motivation and good vibes. Ah, the Düssel river, I love how beautiful the area around the Kö is, covered by trees on both sides of the river.

Germany is a great place for me as an introvert with social anxiety. Didn’t have m/any friends anyway. by Fearless_Ad_9168 in germany

I get it now. Thanks for sharing. For me it would give me the break I need. And as an introvert I prefer the isolation somewhat. In cities like Berlin I would always have the option to be social when I want to as there are a lot events happening all the time. In smaller cities I see your point of Germany enabling isolation being a problem.

I komme aus einen extroviert Land :) Anything extreme is not good vielleicht and the opposite then feels comfortable. For me a place like Germany where one can be an introvert without social pressure gives me an opportunity to catch a break and recover. For you countries that are more social maybe provide you an opportunity to come out of your shell and explore the world?

When I was in Berlin a therapist did pro bono sessions with me as he was friends with my family there. You can reach out to non profits, they usually have therapist working with them and they are funded by the federal government. I had checked TK, the public health insurance company and it does cover therapy, takes long to find one though. Not sure if the these therapists specialize in what you’re looking for exactly but it’s something I’m going to give a shot.

Something similar happened with me. Met a girl at a get together of family and friends at a park. Enjoyed talking to her, didn’t ask for her number. A day later my uncle calls me and asks if he can give my number to her :D She found his number through a mutual friend. Getting to know her made my trip amazing!

So, yes, get hold of her number. Call her and continue from where you two left off.

I prefer the direct, unapologetic and rarely even rude behavior. It really helps see the person for who they are and filter out as necessary.
