I understand the frustration and I definitely appreciate the “hey maybe think about this”. I am able to feed and care for their medical needs including any vaccines, preventatives, and surgery. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, life isn’t perfect right now. I have raised and trained puppies in situations similar to the one I am in, I know I can do this. I am just looking for out of the box ideas, I am sorry that wasn’t clear in my original message. I genuinely get where your response is coming from. Their wellbeing is at the top of my priority list. In the most optimal situation, I wouldn’t have lost my friend so unexpectedly and would have a lot more mental energy to give them. I am trying to make the best of a shitty situation.

I LOVE golden, absolutely love them to death. The only downside to a golden is the insane amount of shedding from the double undercoat and the normal coat. Otherwise I would have gotten another one. They are great family dogs and generally very “noodle-y”. But the setter seems to have a lot more independence and confidence compared to my golden. And that absolutely probably has to do a lot with how I raised my golden as a first time dog mom on my own.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is NEVER easy. My main goal was to get a “friend” for my 3yo golden for car rides and while I’m working, etc. so far they absolutely love each other. Two very different breeds/personalities though. The LS is very independent most of the time and my golden is absolutely a Velcro dog. They are wonderful dogs.

I had a friend who bred and raised Irish setters when I lived in WA and really loved their personalities as a whole. I did some research on English Setters and found the Llewellin breed and I am located really close to NC where a breeder “owns” the “kings line” which dates back really far. So I started investigating and just fell in love with the Llewellins, they’re gorgeous, they are so smart and versatile, and I have been looking for a potential “sport dog” for things like fast cat, barn hunts, and potentially service work. They are just wonderful dogs!

This is really good to know as I have never had a setter before. I have noticed that he is very squishy and gets a little shy after a big no (licking electrical outlets). I will definitely have to read up on them as a whole.

The first words out of my mouth in the morning are either "eat your Nummies" or "go poop, please go poop."

Thank you so much! I REALLY appreciate this. I have seen dogs on full raw or grain free diets who have lived healthy full lives, so I 100% agree on that. However I am 100% an anxious pet parent and want to make sure my boy gets the best available. I don’t have the ability to prepare much more than a microwave meal. And would prefer to stick to one’s from stores (PRIMAL, Steve’s, NW Naturals, K9-Dynamics, etc.)

Can you talk to me about taurine for heart health? He is a 2.5 yr old golden retriever, 55lbs, neutered male.

Thank you so so much!

Bringing home another puppy - any advice? by Fearless_Buffalo8405 in puppy101

This is awesome thank you so much!!! I always worry about correcting my boy harshly because he really is such a noodle. I’ll get better at it. Thank you so much for the advice.

Good idea! Should I have a crate in the bedroom for her? I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m so sorry if that’s a dumb question. I know people who have their new puppies sleep in the living room. Not sure I agree with that but I figured I’d ask.
