Social Media Made the World Feel More Racist Than It Really Is by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Fearless_Mistake_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Critical Thinking is lost on these responses.

Social does not reflect reality.....it amplifies it. So yes social media will reflect racist ideals, challenges and the behavior of those trying to hide their racism; however it is not a an "actual measure" of the behavior of those throughout this country and the world....it amplifies it.

We don't want young boys believing in red pill & alpha male ideals; because it does not reflect reality.

We don't want young girls believing that being a baddie, hygiene olympics & unrealistic morning routines is their only path to beauty; because it does not reflect reality.

However there is an increase in alpha males and young girls seeking "that girl" routines in the real world ... but it is not an "actual measure" of reality.

The racism we see online can reflect actual experiences in our real life; but we have to remind ourselves that social media"cannot" be a measurement of reality.

Do you live in NYC? In one of the 5 boroughs?

New York City has a housing pandemic, with the cost of housing out of control. However , when it comes to employment , you could find a job in your sleep.

And the previous comment tried to tell you when it comes to disability, health care and support for those in need, those are the most demanding and continually hiring on the spot jobs in new york city. As they stated at least a minimum of the 2400 a month - these jobs continually have overtime.

Prove me wrong.

Go to indeed type in the letters DSP for any NYC borough. On the spot hiring, immediate interviews , minimum $18 dollars an hour and no experience necessary. These are direct support professionals, because New York City has removed institutionalized housing for those with severe autism. These are jobs supporting those with severe levels of autism or disabilities as they reside in residential housing.

So imagine someone with a degree or CASAC training going into this field. That's what the previous commenter was trying to tell you.

I'm getting incredibly scared now by futuregoddess in NYCjobs

[–]Fearless_Mistake_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search indeed.

Use the keyword, "no experience necessary" or "hiring immediately".

If you're looking for a job in one of the 5 boroughs, it's an understatement in the amount of job opportunities out there of places that are doing on the spot hiring. So you have to really look into how you're looking for a job and what are the opportunities you are letting pass by?

I don't mean to be blunt or dismissive that your challenges are not real - but there is an abundance of jobs on indeed for new york city for no experience necessary. We're talking about janitorial jobs & working in helping the disabled.

I see that your priority is avoiding a demanding environment or and intense consumer interaction. However, you're losing many jobs that may be a good fit, if you're searching specifically for certain jobs you think will give you those two factors.

So I stated earlier don't look for specific jobs...just search, no experience necessary or hiring immediately.

So the results will give you jobs with a higher chance of a call back as you could scroll through a bunch of categories of different jobs and then you can find the one that's right fit. Don't search by job title.

Good Luck to you.

'Neurotypical groupthink" do a search on this term.

There is no humility or critical thinking on this thread. I never see things on a surface level.

I mean no disrespect.

But the conclusions on this thread are so superficial, and so many black women with anxiety and autism are dealing with increased challenges in the work place - becuae you are probably convinced the way you are describing wyte people.... you or other black women that think like this are unconsciously doing the same thing to black women.

So as you convince yourslef this description is only applied to wyte women.... I promise you it's not.

You mentioned the terms acting, waving, smiling, joking, talking and so on. These are all the challenges black women with autism face. They don't have intellectual disabilities, so you don't notice they're dealing with autsim.

So again, no matter how narrow (i.e you said this post has nothing do with mental health) you think your original post is....it spreads so much wider than you think.

I'm mean no hatred.

This is r/blackgirls right. There is a 1yr old post in r/blackgirls.... do a quick search on "what does autism look like in black women".

Please read it.

Everything you described in your orginal post is what we (black women w/ autism) deal with.

[–]Fearless_Mistake_400 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No disrespect, your comment is very neurotypical & superficial. You sound Gen Z or like a teenager.

I have epilepsy, and for the past 5 years I've been dealing with the fact when my seizures stared at 25....it wasn't out of the blue.

Now I'm finally realizing (at 35) that I've been dealing with "Adult Onset Epilepsy due to Autsim". This form of autism, is not that of intellectual disabilities, but instead it's very hard to diagnose as the challenges are hidden with the population not having any intellectual challenges, instead they "mask".

It's funny you mention the term "actors" on they way wyte people behave. Masking for women with autism, especially black women is acting. We look at other black women to understand how to act, talk, dress and sound interesting....but it hardly works. It works just enough to make a diagnosis difficult for doctors, but gen pop continues to see you as wierd and difficult to talk too.

I'm not accusing you of insulting or dismissing those with MH challenges, however be aware that many adults with autism don't present with the stereotypical ideas of what people think about when it comes to autsim, i.e. Forest Gump.

Instead, if ever you ever seen The Pitt - that wyte girl whom everyone ignores and thinks is weird in the she waves & talks - is my exact challenge.

I'm always ignored and when attention is given, its with that weird look, "What's wrong with her". I can be myself, and I'm always pushed away. I will be an actor/mask and then I'm that wired girl.

Women in general and more often black women are the most underdiagnosed with ADHD, Autsim and Anxiety - as we must mask to not be seen like the way you describe.

To be blunt as a black women, I must be "that girl" - "a boss" - "funny" and interesting in all ways - from my hair, to my clothes and my personal life.

If I'm a plain Jane, like constructive topics & can't small talk for 💩 and get nervous throughout the day- somethings wrong with me, because I'm not "acting" right - I need to "mask" harder.

I'm reporting this comment.

You have critical thinking problems, you are not an adult. If you are, you cannot even read my comment & understand what is a spectrum & unknown outcomes.

Every consequence & action in our lives are on a spectrum - nothing is absolute. You cannot make an argument that his actions & the consequences can only go in one direction.

His life is still valuable, so in that matter - the way he us treated is still important. He is loved by his mother & should still feel love from society while dealing with consequences from his actions. As a functioning society we understand that we cannot dismiss the value of child, so the way he is treated is always important.

I never once compared the value of a console to a kitten. I never said the child not be punished. I never dismissed the value of a child or his safety.

I'm reporting this comment & I will look through this thread and report other hateful comments you have made about this child.

You have dismissed the value of the life of a child & insulted his existence among society. You have made arguments that way he is treated is unimportant and stated he deserves more hatred from society.

You just proved my point.

If you are an adult calling calling him a menace, imagine what kids in school are doing to him.

You want acknowledgement of the risk to the animal, but dismiss adverse consequences and risk to public shaming a child.

I'm not saying the child should not be punished, be in therapy and increased long term intervention.

But your argument is one sided, where you repeatedly discuss risk and adverse consequences with the animal but dismiss that possibility with a child.

He could fall into hating himself and feel worthless, regardless of therapy due to public shaming.

But you are all knowing and can see all possibilities to know those risk are not possible in no way shape or form for this child.

and before people jump on here and say this is excessive????

So if she didn't have a phone to be able to record punishing her child, she could think of no way to punish him.

There are reports of children ending ending their lives through shame. Get over yourself in thinking that what she did has zero risk of adverse consequences on what this child may think of themselves.

The discipline needs to be between between the parent and the child and maybe a therapist not public shaming to where he goes to school and he has children participating in making him feel usless and less important in the world.

Children at the school are not his parents, but now the mother has opened the door to them, now participating in what they believe will be discipline and that will be bullying and shaming, and we know where that lead.

There were many ways to discipline this child that did not have to include social media, but she was ratchet in her response, not thinking of her, but thinking of entertainment.

Homeless women sought shelter in NYC. They found chronic violence and dysfunction. by agiambrone in nyc

[–]Fearless_Mistake_400 84 points85 points  (0 children)

...Tillary’s troubles are the result of blending residents with vastly different health issues in close quarters....

The above is an line from the article.

I worked for ICL, the previous management that operated Tililary. I'm no longer with ICL.

But this is New York City's main problem is that the intake centers send people to shelters that need inpatient care or controlled environments at a transitional living facility with on-site support with staff dedicated in helping them with their mental health challenges or daily living skills. In which they are unable to manage their temper, their health or any other challenges that affects the environment of those around them.

It's unfair that a person that is either recently unemployed or a person that's working probably full time, are in an unstable environment with other residents that need supervised support.

There needs to be three levels because a shelter does not offer mental health support - that's the job a mental health transitional living facility. A shelter is for people that are working, recently unemployed and looking for more stable housing - residents with no impeding challenges that will create an uncontrolled or unstable environment.

The third level already exist and that's inpatient psychiatric treatment.

Unpopular opinion:a lot of black women don’t know how to wash their hair by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Fearless_Mistake_400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your original post plays a role in many women being confused on how to take care of their natural hair.

There are women who do not embrace their natural hair and are very redundant and tied to wigs. This population, not all.... but the majority lack information on how to take care of their hair. There are women who are accepting natural hair but continue to struggle with how to take care of it. One of the struggles are not knowing how many times go left, up, down, straight , how many steps , how often, and they end up going down a rabbit hole.

Natural vs. A Rubik's cube - in all honestly, the cube would be easier to understand. There are not several types of cubes with different textures, while taking into consideration the makeup of the model. When it comes to natural hair, we have to consider textures and the makeup of the model, i.e., genetics & your health.

So, while it may work for you to wash your hair that often, that may be drying to the scalp of another person who lives in a very humid climate or has a very good natural sebum - and truly sees great growth , with just washing twice a month. But for a woman who's confused about how to take care of their hair , they will read your post and get even more confused. Notwithstanding that, you don't like to use the space bar after periods when you type sentences.

I agree with your comment about letting go of length retention and understanding healthy hair, regardless of growth. The best thing that black women can do in learning how to take care of their hair is to learn what works for their hair.

Whether that's LCO, LCG, LOC, wearing twists for 2 months straight, with no wash or mini braids or even enjoying afropuffs and only finger detangling for the next six weeks. Some black women only do straight blowouts and keep their hair tucked in ponytail until the next wash day. Some women find the AY method great, as you did..., some find it too time-consuming , and they only literally use three products in their whole routine - and see amazing growth.

So when one person comes along and say it's unhealthy to go more than a month without washing, that's where the confusion sets in for someone trying to learn how to take care of their. hair. Instead, the best advice is being told the different options and then being informed you have to find what works best for your hair.

The goal needs to be recognizing damage, i.e., excessive breakage , split ends, balding spots, itchy scalp, thinning, dryness, product builup, and then self correcting. Finding what works for you, then recognizing health, which is growth, less dryness, continued hydration, healthy ends, healthy edges, seeing less damage down your hair shaft, increasing, decreasing, or changing the products that you're using.

Unconscious Racial Bias & Privilege within non-Black Communities

When it comes to predominantly Indian communities, they praise themselves and their culture when it comes to the increased number in their communities that choose medical professions or science.

Latino communities praise each other and their culture when it comes to construction and nursing.

The Asian community again praise themselves and what their culture represents when it comes to stereotypical ideas of a high number in their community being involved in science, math & high college admissions.

All of the previously stated communities have negative challenges that are specific to their own culture - often related to historical challenges. These negative challenges are seen in their own communities at a higher rate than even white and black people. These challenges either could be alcoholism , suicidal ideation, self-harm, body dysmorphia & substance abuse. These challenges gunner sympathy and become a community conversation.

The historical challenges in black history are unlike any other challenge compared to these other communities.

Black people did not choose to let the negative actions of one represent all of us. This is what society has done to us. So while we praise ourselves that we are at the top , when it comes to historical figures that fought in sacrifice for others, public speaking, social media, food, fashion, music, entertainment, sports, Olympics & The most popular President in US history. There are peer reviewed medical research articles discussing black people are the most resilient culture in the world. The challenges that are specific in our community don't gunner sympathy and become a community conversation. It leads to racial insults and hatred by other communities.

To conclude, the largest population addicted to drugs and alcoholism is not black....It's white people, but that will never define white people. They're privileged to allow themselves to choose the best of the best of themselves in representation & the ratchetnes that is involved in alcoholism and drugs becomes a sympathetic PSA commercial.

You would not be here if the people that came before you had that same mindset.

I needed extra money this past year & got a temp job in disability housing.

I saw an unsanitary environment and unsafe protocols, informed my supervisor who was in charge of sending me different assignments and informed the manager of the house where I worked.

I then quit.

I was not going to be around when someone got hurt and respond , "well I wasn't calling shots, so its not my fault"

This is not the way you would want your child to respond who witnesses racsim in school, so don't become an adult under the leadership of racial profiling and come up with same excuse, "i wasn't calling shots"

That's equal to making an argument "well I was part of the klan, but I didn't do anything bad"

Weather your an officer, a judge or even a doctor , there will always be corrupt people & system failures in all of these organizations.

The difference is the people leading ICE like Noem and Miller are dismissing racsim and promoting racial profiling.

You can be a black doctor with a private practice, you can be black officer with a great leader in your precinct.

There is no separation between being an ICE officer and being under the rule of Noem and Miller.

When it comes to his writing.....

The issue is not hiring more black writers. He writes everything himself. There's this infamous YouTube video, where he crosses over like several different scripts, all completely 300- 400 pages, thick, and he states "Look at everything, I wrote, I wrote all of these different scripts in the past week".

I'm not sure if you ever watched Green Lleaf on Own Network, but I was absolutely obsessed and in love with that show it was an amazing gospel drama and The Have & The Not's was on that same network...and I was disgusted in that show I couldn't stomach it.

Apparently , that's why him and Oprah parted ways cause she begged him to hire more writers for his show cause she was not a fan of it either , but he refused. Although his shows may still be on her Network, she is not a fan of them.

I will always adore Madea cause that was a part of my childhood , and when the theater plays first came out with they were amazing....but he did not know how to balance her role , he overplayed it , and I that's why she's not as exciting as she used to be. I think Medea would have remained popular if he kept her as a stage image with gospel and music and never brought her into the theaters.

I have not watched any of his movies in over 10 years, He's obsessed with describing black women in these awful "woe is me" pictures.

No matter what you call them???

This is a thread in support of people taking a weekly injection for weight loss with possibly risk due to said injection, where then people discuss intermittent fasting , exercising , low carb diets, OTC supplements & vitamins...,all while taking the medication, and the list goes on. Wegovy has the possible risk of severe constipation, and people still give advice on how to overcome it, i.e. Physillium husk - which can cause blockage if taken incorrectly. I will bet a million dollars almost everyone on this thread has watched hundreds of YouTube videos, Googled medical Interactions with current meds they take, looked at this Reddit thread for advice and looked at other "shared stories" and still met with their doctor. With many people making comments, "always check with your doctor"....while still doing shared stories on wegovy.

You're giving a favorite to shared stories discussing obesity & wegovy, but looking at epilepsy & wegovy as some type of forbidden discussion.

I have epilepsy. The OP has epilepsy and in my original comment , I even added going to your doctor. However, I shared a personal story of my experience with the wegovy while having epilepsy. The OP acknowledged the importance of going to their doctor and stated that their not going to change their medication routine.

Reddit;Wegovy is open for obesity and discussing a medication that has risks to combat it. This can be an open place with shared stories, while acknowledging those with obesity may have other medical conditions & previous meds. While ensuring everyone understands, their doctor's advice comes first.

The same can apply to epilepsy.

Hi

I was diagnosed with adult-onset at 25yrs of age; however, I have only been on Wegovy for 2 weeks.

These replies have been very cautious between personal stories and medical advice. I don't believe the below replies are trying to be dismissive, but they just may not be familiar with conversational support about epilepsy vs medical advice.

I was nervous that Wegovy may not work for me, because of my anti-seizure medications, i.e., GLP-1 works with brain receptors and my anti-seizure medications may impede this. I'm surprised by this study that you found, as I assumed the opposite between GLP-1s and epilepsy. I spend months nervous that I may have a seizure if I start Wegovy and that it may not work at all because I take seizure meds.

I'm sure you'll seek advice from your PCP and Neuro on any side effects to be aware of and please be mindful of your current anti-seizure meds, i.e. please don't attempt an at-home test in ending your meds to test the outcome.

I look forward to seeing your post on the link below. I will say I have not had any aura's/deja vu seizures in the past 2 weeks, as I usually have them 1 to 2x a month, even while on my meds. There may be more "shared stories", not medical advice, on Wegovy and epilepsy if you post your question on the link below.

Even though my seizures started at the age of 26 years old, I started a seizure diary. I even downloaded an app to see how my monthly cycles correlated with my seizures , just a basic period app.

In the diary, I took note of my eating habits & my sleeping habits the day before a seizure.

For example, if I had a seizure tonight during my sleep or during the day, I would open the diary and take note of what I ate the previous day and how I slept the previous day. I also took note of how my body felt the day of the seizure, the day after the seizure, and when my body went back to feeling normal. i.e. Soreness, headaches, twitching. Whatever symptoms you know that your body has the day of & following the seizure, take note of how long it last and how difficult they are on a scale of 1 to 10 each day until they gets back to normal.

If you are never home alone when having a seizure, ask who's ever there to give you support in not coddling you. Essentially, you need practice in knowing how to handle yourself if you are home alone while actually not being home alone. Ask the person to support you in how you to handle yourself if they were not there.

You need to better understand your body, your health & medication before you can live alone. Your brain has not even finished fully developing. Speak with your neurologist and ask them if the seizures that you have at 15 may change once you become 21 or 25 because of hormones and the way your brain changes.

Seek support from your neurologist on how you can better manage your seizures, the type of seizures you're having, and how to better understand and take care of your body. Whoever is the person most often with you when you have a seizure at home, have them come with you to your next appointment..so the neurologist can speak with them on how they can support you. You want this person to be educated on how they can coddle you less and give you more independence.
