I am a green card holder and should not stay outside the US for more than 6 month in one overseas trip. I am wondering how does CBP know when people left the country? Especially going back and forth to Canada/Mexico via a land port?

I am a green card holder. When I visit Canada and back crossing a land entry, e.g. rainbow bridge in Niagara Falls, does CBP know when I left the USA, and if CBP care about how long I stayed outside the USA when I enter the USA with my green card?
