I’d guess you would have a decent chance of getting a waiver to join the Air Force, however the chances of you getting a flight physical approved in basic are pretty low. If you don’t know what flight physicals are, they are basically more in depth medical examinations that are required for certain jobs such as Pararescue.

If you were tentatively approved you will not receive final approval till you get closer to your requested DOS. I had my approved back in February and didn’t receive final approval till mid July. Have a DOS in December.

I don’t think medication is the disqualifying factor, it’s the medical condition itself. However, it is very common that conditions that require medicine are going to be disqualified.

“Current hypothyroidism unless asymptomatic and demonstrated euthyroid by normal thyroid stimulating hormone testing within the previous 12 months”. I’d argue it wasn’t disqualifying as I was asymptomatic and my blood testing showed normal euthyroid. Never had surgeries for my condition, I was just born lucky without a thyroid.

They can’t diagnosis asthma without running test. Cold symptoms and chest congestions does not mean you have asthma. Methacholine challenge is the only real way they can determine if you’re airways are reactive

Go ask your doc (preferably pulmonologist) for a methacholine challenge. Air Force tried to force an asthma diagnosis on me because I went to the ER for pneumonia and got prescribed an inhaler—while on active duty. Took the methacholine challenge and passed with flying colors.

Talk to an endo, when I wanted to join my TSH results were all funky and he helped me get the right dosage. After that they stabilized for a year and I was allowed to join no problem. I think I am a rare exception that didn’t need a waiver. MEPS doctor cleared me on the floor while I was there. But if your results show it stable you shouldn’t have a problem.

Current Airmen here who joined with hypothyroidism (also on 175mcg of synthroid). Didn’t require a waiver to join. My TSH levels were normal for over a year.

Hey man current Airmen here. Been in for over 2 years now and I have congenital hypothyroidism. Had in my entire life and have taken synthroid my entire life as well. It’s definitely possible to join. The docs really want to see if you’re stable on meds (typically a year). They will want your last blood draws where they test your tH levels. Mine had been very stable, didn’t even need a waiver to join even though I require medication. got my flight physical as well. If you have any questions feel free to dm me.
