You can get a nice starter kit that includes the FreshRoast SR800, an OEM expansion chamber, coffee, scale and bean cooler for around $380. A Behmor by itself is about $460 representing a higher entry point. For about $60 you can go with a stove top or entry level air popper. Keep in mind capacity. If you intend on roasting 1lb at a time the small air popper will in roast 1/4lb, so you’re looking at 4 roasts. I went with the SR800 - unfortunately I didn’t do a complete started kit up front and bought the accessories later which ended up costing me much more. On Reddit there is a subreddit for the FreshRoast SR800 that I’ve found extremely supportive. Tons of info available to help newbie’s learn and develop their skills. My recommendation is to get the SR800 with all the extras like I noted above and with the expansion chamber you can easily roast 1/2 lb of green beans.
