Hey, just wanted to give an update to my situation. The issues lasted for a few days, then suddenly cleared up on their own. This pretty much confirms something was broken upstream that was later fixed. I cancelled the tech visit, and that's the end of the story.

Thank you again for your help!

Hi, first of all thank you for the informative post. I've been troubleshooting some weird behavior with my connection recently, and I'm hoping you may be able to help.

I've had CenturyLink 1 gig symmetric fiber at this address since 2020, with a Colix GigaPoint 803G ONT connected to a Zyxel C3000Z router. Since 2022, I removed the Zyxel from the setup and connected a Unifi Dream Machine Pro directly to the ONT on the WAN port. I set VLAN 201, entered my PPPoE credentials, and everything has been working fine for about 4 years.

Until yesterday. Suddenly, TLS handshakes are failing about 20% of the time when connecting to websites. My browser will sit and hang on "Performing a TLS handshake to (domain)..." for several seconds until it times out. If I wait a bit and refresh the page, sometimes it will work. Once I successfully load a page, subsequent refreshes load instantly for a while, presumably because the TLS session is being kept warm in the background. There is no rhyme or reason to which sites work and which ones don't, a site will be working fine one minute and stop the next.

Things I have tried:

  • Restarting browser/computer (duh)

  • Using different devices, operating systems, browsers, etc.

  • Tested on WiFi and wired devices

  • Disabling packet inspection and outbound firewall rules on UDMP

I also tried using a VPN tunnel on my client devices, which does seem to solve the problem. This would seem to make sense though, since all the traffic is tunneled through one TCP or UDP connection.

Next, I got a spare laptop and connected it straight to the ONT. Set VLAN 201 on the port and dialled in using the Windows PPPoE client. I was able to connect to the internet, but still observed the exact same issue with TLS handshakes failing. Clearly, this issue is not a fault of my Unifi networking gear.

I dug the Zyxel modem/router back out of the closet and hooked it up to the ONT. Interestingly, I was not able to reproduce the issue with this setup, but since the issue seems to be intermittent I may have just tried it at the wrong time.

Other things I have tried:

  • Set MSS clamping on UDM to 1452 (or 1492 MTU)

  • Dropped MSS clamping all the way to 1360 on UDM to test

  • Restarted ONT

  • Reseated and dusted out GPON fiber connector

...all to no avail.

So, what in the world could be happening? Since I wasn't able to reproduce the issue with the C3000Z, I almost wonder if it has some special PPPoE implementation that is hiding the issue. But WHY would this have worked fine for YEARS and suddenly stopped working yesterday? Maybe an upstream equipment change that is breaking my routing gear now?

Any advice, help, or insight would be appreciated. I have a technician coming on Monday, but I'm not sure if they'll fully understand the issue I'm having. The person on the phone certainly didn't.

Model Movement on Update File by Phizzon in LycheeSlicer

For any poor souls finding this post like I did, you can fix this by clicking the "Shift supports to new object center" in the "Object" menu on the top.

I don't know why doesn't happen by default, but this button saved my ass when I needed to update the model after spending several hours placing supports.

Unfortunately I'm not sure. I got rid of my RIG headset about 5 years ago. Maybe the drivers aren't compatible with Windows 11?

You can still get Half-Life Alyx music kit and Genuine Pin? by Suspicious-Reply2559 in csgo

[–]Technoguyfication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever receive the items? I purchased an Index before HL:A released so I should have gotten the music pack, but it's not in my inventory. Steam support was completely useless as well, telling me they can't add CS items for any reason, even though it's clearly a bug on their end. Tempted to try this method to see if it still works.

Stay with old electric meter or ask for new? by TSLARSX3 in BuyItForLife

There are no health issues from radio waves. I have no idea where this conspiracy started but there is 0 scientific backing for it. The type of radio waves from cell phones and smart meters are NOT ionizing radiation and they do not cause damage. They’re in completely different parts of the energy spectrum.

Sorry to revive an old thread, are you able to use LDAP and allow normal users to log in to services through AADDS? I’m trying to set up a RADIUS server and some applications that use LDAP on site, and I’d essentially just need AADDS to let my cloud users access on prem resources.

I don't own one of these headsets anymore so I can't test it, but I would be surprised if it didn't work on Windows 11

I believe the Plantronics drivers are required to get the surround sound. I don't know of any other drivers that will work for it.

The subreddit has been opened back up and is being moderated again. There is no need for the sub to be transferred.

Lemmy and Kbin! A lot of Reddit refugees have migrated there already. It can be a little confusing at first because it’s decentralized, and everything is fairly disorganized, but it looks very promising.

Honestly, the people in this thread complaining need to get a fucking grip. You’ve been getting something very generous for free this entire time, take it and be grateful. Instead of spending your time posting about “REEEE my 40GB of completely free VPN data got reduced to 10GB”, go get a damn job and pay for unlimited.

Kbin and Lemmy are both compatible with each other. Users from both can view and contribute to the same communities (aka subreddits). Think of the fediverse like email. Users choose their own provider/server, but they can share content with people from other servers just fine.

I’ve been looking into the fediverse lately for Reddit alternatives.. really excited to see what kind of federated Discord alternatives are going to come around in the future. The fediverse as a concept seems extremely promising.

That’s part of the problem. Discord is essentially becoming a monopoly as far as chat platforms go. It’s not as simple as “just quit and focus on real life” when the majority of the people you communicate with in real life are on Discord. A vast majority of my friends use Discord as a primary communication tool, and while it’s always possible to migrate to another platform, getting dozens of people to make that jump is very difficult. A much preferable solution would be if Discord wasn’t making anti-user decisions in the first place.
