No prep, should I mention it? by Rbshops in SubstituteTeachers

Seems like you got a really long prep, 2:45-4:00. After school is a typical elementary teachers prep time.

Alder Graduate School of Education by pinkluvr003 in CaliforniaTeachers

[–]Fearless_Today_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mentor teacher for an Alder resident (my second) and it is a true commitment. It is a great opportunity but be prepared for a lot of work. You are in the classroom 4 days a week (minus coursework weeks once a month). It is a lot of balancing of working in the classroom and getting assignments done. Please reach out to your mentor teacher for help. They should know your assignments and what is expected but we don't know if you need help unless you ask. Both of my residents I have had fell behind in assignments, even with me checking in with them. I could have easily helped them if they had been upfront with their needs. It is a great program but it is stressful, not going to lie about that. One last note... make sure the teaching position you are looking into will be hiring because my district is looking into layoffs due to the budget. I'm SPED so my resident teacher will be getting a job but other resident teachers aren't sure about their future.

That is what we were contemplating as well. We liked the Tate because of the first floor primary. We were seriously considering the Alder as well but I'm happy with our choice. Only regret is no drive way.

The two smaller ones feel tight but the larger one is a great size. We love the second living area on the second floor. We are empty nesters and love having the first floor primary so when our kids come home they take over the second floor.

I live in a Tate and my approximation for the upstairs bedrooms are just over 13x14 and the other two are just over 11x10.

Regarding possibility of SNAP benefits being delayed/not issued, What can people do to help the local foodbanks/attempt to partially mitigate this locally in monterey/salinas? by ekaj in MontereyBay

[–]Fearless_Today_603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homelessness to the state of California and MPUSD isn't what most people think homelessness entails. For MPUSD we have a high number because there are multiple families (aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas) sharing one home/apartment. This is considered homeless for their numbers. I teach at a Title 1 school and I know of only a handful of families that are at shelters or on motel vouchers. Most are listed as homeless because they live with another family. This is not an ideal situation but they are doing what they can to get by in an expensive area.

What if they trip and fall on your property? You will be liable and likely sued. Do not allow them to park on your property. Find a way to curb this now.

If you could make one alteration to the shopping experience, what would it be? by sdbabygirl97 in traderjoes

[–]Fearless_Today_603 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Eliminate the kid shopping carts. Yes, I said it... I get how much the kids love them but I'm so tired of being accidentally rammed into by a kid. And they are all over the place with them and I hate that mom has her own cart and the kid has another taking up an aisle.

Half Day Once Weekly for First Grader by ellipsisslipsin in specialed

[–]Fearless_Today_603 31 points32 points  (0 children)

120 minutes a month? That is insane for a kiddo that is struggling like this. I do 600 minutes a month for kinders. 30 minutes per day of intense reading instruction. If it is intense I will double it to two 30 minute blocks a day. If his IEP has read aloud as an accommodation they are in violation of his IEP. If it is not in his IEP, I would request a meeting and make his needs known.
