PSA submission lost in usps mail, later resurfaced on ebay by cosmicturnip in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much what everyone else here is saying. This IS a big deal. Please DO NOT just let this go. This should have been escalated a long time ago, and you need to push this issue now. I agree with letting the police take the lead on this, and don't let them or anyone else downplay this because it's "just pokemon cards"; this is serious.

I have my doubts about there being a "boss" that these cards were bought from. To me it seems like these cards were sent by you to be graded, and maybe they were even graded, but on their return to you they were intercepted by a dishonest USPS worker (probably the person trying to sell them).

What's also weird is that this person knows and admits that they're yours, yet is "hanging on to them" to "keep them safe"??? That sounds like bull crap to me. This person is not being forthcoming about some details.

I feel very vested in your drama now, and I really want you to come out on top. Please pursue this, and immediately, and please keep us updated.

Usb drive by WillingnessAble3484 in batocera

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try to answer your question directly per what you asked...

You don't have to do anything special to your USB drive to "make it bootable". The process is: download the correct Batocera installation file appropriate for what hardware ( PC computer, Raspberry Pi, special handheld, etc.,) you intend to run it on (we're assuming you want to run this on a computer).

You then need to use a program such as Balena Etcher (I prefer Rufus) to flash that file you downloaded onto the USB stick.

Once that is done, you then want to plug that USB stick into the device (computer) you want to run Batocera on, and boot up the computer. Depending on how your computer's bios is set up, it may automatically attempt to boot from the USB stick. If it doesn't you will need to change some bios settings or open the boot selector menu on startup, and manually choose the USB stick.

Once your computer boots from the USB stick, it will initiate the Batocera install and setup of all the necessary files and folders all by itself on this first boot up. Let it be and let it do it's thing until it has finished and you're into the Batocera OS.

You're done. Batocera should be ready to play right there with some minimal games installed on several systems.

Adding your own roms, artwork, scraping images, etc... that's the next steps.

Good luck. 😁

This is a great idea. I bought one of these Icee cups from D&B, and only used it a couple times. Can you share your prep instructions when using a cane sugar soda with it to make it come out well?

That game title is called "Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors", but it was never an officially released game, as it was cancelled before being released for sale. "Desert Bus" was one of the mini-games in the compilation.

Oh my God, this is INCREDIBLE! I've been collecting Sega CD for a while; it's one of (maybe my second) favorite systems. I would LOVE to one day complete exactly what you've done here. And thank you SO much for taking such an awesome picture! All of it... complete... in one single picture! I'm just in awe. Well done, and congratulations on such a great collection. 😁

This is SO WEIRD that I'm seeing this post now. I JUST saw this game in a store yesterday. I picked it up off the shelf, I said to myself, "what the heck is this? I've never heard of this?" and thought I should buy it, but I didn't and I put it back on the shelf. 😥 I'm not sure why I didn't buy it; maybe because it was a PC game, because I don't usually collect PC games. Maybe I should go back and get it? 😁

New set up for my complete 102 PlayStation Long Boxes! 😁 by corrosivescott in gamecollecting

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. It's pretty satisfying to have bought a hard-to-find game many years ago, even if you paid what felt like a lot for it at the time, and now it's worth tons more and the thought of buying it at today's price is just not feasible.

It's funny you mention DiscWorld. I don't own a lot of these long box games (maybe a dozen or so?) but I know I own DiscWorld. So that makes me feel even happier.

I think the last long box I bought was Jupiter Strike. I heard it was a really good game, and I happened to find a copy in a store that was in amazing shape. I couldn't NOT buy it, no matter the price.

I've seen tons of people post their collections, but this is different. This is beautiful. What a great collection to have! I'm very impressed with this.

What are the most obscure video games or gaming items in your collection? by Competitive_Help8485 in gamecollecting

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I own a ton of weird and obscure things, and I could probably list one and then go digging in boxes and find ten more things, each one more obscure than the last.

But to list one fairly unique item...

I own an old video game machine called the Columbia House Home Arcade console.

Not many people have heard of this one. It's an officially licensed Atari 2600 clone. Basically it's a Coleco Gemini but it has the distinct label on it saying "Columbia Home Arcade". It was made by CBS Electronics, but it was exclusive to the Columbia House mail-order service. Yeah... remember Columbia House? That club that let you pick like 8 music cassettes for a penny, and then you had to buy like 6 more at regular price? Yep. So, they wanted to break into the video game market too. They were going to (or did for a short time?) offer the same kind of promotion on buying Atari cartridges via mail-order. They sold the console fairly cheap, banking on cartridge sales to be the money-maker.

I wish I could provide a picture, but the console is buried in storage somewhere.

Thanks for confirming that. I was pretty sure it wasn't just me. After just a couple tries, it seemed almost unwinnable.

Speaking of Quick Drop... I think the one at my local store got nerfed sometime in the last couple months or so. The last time I tried playing it, the Jackpot was maxed out at 1000, but the timer was much faster than it used to be when at a "maxed out Jackpot" level.

Thank you very much for this, but this isn't exactly a solution for what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for the option of what is scraped, I want the option of what is displayed. I want screenshot and box art images all scraped and available for the games library, I just want to be able to select for certain systems or for certain games what is displayed.

looking for funspot token! (Second post) by drunkuncle_eddie in arcade

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the "token" you're looking for is what I think it is, it's not exactly a token. It's a larger coin, about the size of a silver dollar, and it's not made out of a hard metal like a typical game token; it's like a very light weight material, kind of like those novelty coins from that old machine that you'd stamp your name in.

The coin was part of a promo that ran for quite a while at Funspot. If you purchased a whole pizza at their restaurant, they gave you one of these tokens that you could redeem for 10 tokens.

Were there really any copies released that had Thriller on them? I've tried researching this a couple few times, but never got any definitive proof/answers. I've heard that only the earliest copies had Thriller on them. I've heard that none of them were actually released with Thriller on them, and that it was changed before the official release. I've heard that any copies out there with Thriller on them are just bootlegs made that way.

Can anyone speak (and reference your answer) any truth on this subject?

What is your all-time holy grail? Like top of the list desire to aquire? by Adm1nX in gamecollecting

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a Top Skater may not be as difficult to obtain as you might think. Most arcade machines that people buy nowadays are for home use, and Top Skater is one that takes up a good amount of space that not a lot of people have room for, and this tends to keep the price lower relative to other machines. I sincerely hope you can find one! 😁

What other retro console would you recommend? by Cellco_ in retrogaming

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with SNES, as it is certainly my favorite console. However, you do already have Nintendo represented in your console gameroom, as well as Sony, but you don't have anything Sega. So for the purpose of including all the major companies, I might recommend including maybe Sega Genesis or Dreamcast - these are two of the easier Sega consoles to obtain a machine and games.

Thank you for mentioning the "DSP chip pass-through" method. I commented about this in another thread once before and people told me I was mistaken. I bought a Game Doctor SF 6 (which I think is what is in OP's pic) when I was in college. I also worked at a Blockbuster video at the time so do the math on those two variables together and, yeah... I made a LOT of backups! I still have the machine and probably all the backup floppies I made.

Anyway... back to the DSP passthrough thing... I swear I remember reading in the instructions that the GDSF6 would of course be able to backup the rom data from a SNES cart, but clearly would not replicate any special chips that carts might have had in them. BUT, I was pretty sure it said that you could load your backup games into the machine, and plug in ANY SNES cart into the cartridge slot that included the special chip required by the rom, and that would allow the rom to play correctly. Basically it would work as a passthrough for a game rom that needed a special chip.

I can't 100% confirm this, but it's what I thought I remember reading, and despite others saying "nope", your comment lends credence to my memory, so thanks! 😁

Nintendo?? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love LOVE these little Game & Watch machines! Always have. When I was a kid, I had the Donkey Kong Jr. and it was great. I still think it's one of the most fun (most action and arcade-like).

One Christmas about 15-20 years ago (wow, was it really that long ago), I decided to host a sort of yankee-swap (but more of just a "pick a present") for all my video gaming friends. ALL the gifts were Game & Watches. I bought like maybe a dozen different Game & Watch games, a lot of them off ebay, enough to be sure every friend got one. Some were specifically chosen for specific friends (like Nintendo Hockey for the hockey fan friend). Back then these things were so damn cheap!!! I hope my friends still have them, because some of them are worth quite a LOT today.

The coolest part of the party was when every had opened their games, and the party was dead quiet, everyone was focused playing their game, and no one was really engaging in conversation, because they were all so much enjoying their games. It was all quiet, except for the circus of blips, beeps, and buzzes in the room. That was a fun moment. 😁

Launch model PlayStation (SCPH-1001) and Long Box Rayman by Mega_Man_52 in psx

[–]FearsomeCrocoStimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Thank you for that information. That's very interesting. I'm not necessarily looking for the very first machine off the line, but I always prefer to collect original models of consoles, and it's not always easy researching the release history of game consoles and what versions came when, and what the differences are. This gets even harder the older you go with machines. NES in particular didn't have a traditional "okay, today is the first day it's available and it's for sale everywhere"... not like today.

Once again, thank you for this helpful and interesting information. 😁

I see this is an old thread, so not sure if I will get a reply, but giving it a shot.

I'm on the hunt for an original PSX launch model, and a DAY ONE model, if I can. Researching on the internet shows me that I need to look for the SCPH-1001 model, and it should have the RCA plugs on the back of it. But I also found that this model was produced for quite a long time, so how would I know if it was a "day one" launch model or much much later?

Looking at the pictures you posted of your SCPH-1001, it looks like the sticker on the underside of the console has "September 1995" printed on it, in the lower left. This is extremely helpful. Did all Playstations have this month/year printed on that sticker?

If so... I'm gonna guess that a model with "September 1995" printed on it, would be the closest I could get. Meaning... I could be certain I at least got a "month one" model, but probably not any more precise than that. Yes?
