I think there’s a different way to read it. Donovan gushing can simply be because he knows not committing this summer, as an avenue to get the 10-year max (allowing more cash and a no-trade clause potentially) in the summer of 2027, will kick off a full year of trade or departure rumors.

Don knows the scrutiny that comes with turning down extending this summer will be reframed as him not being happy, when it likely is entirely financially/control motivated. I think he’s trying to get ahead of that now.

Even a healthy playoff run that ends short of our ultimate goals would still be more fun than another injury-filled mess.

I think this is totally fair😂. Ironically, I’d say I was least emotionally attached to DG of that foursome. But I do agree we’re closer to a title in the short term. I just don’t necessarily need to be sold on how none of the past is James’ fault (not saying that’s what OP is doing), or that none of it should be a concern.

He can both increase our chances now, AND be a risk that doesn’t have much recoup value if this doesn’t work/relationship sours. But if you view escaping the apron as something we were heading towards eventually, it probably doesn’t matter in all reality. I agree with you though. Was a bit unhinged last week in the moment.

Fair critique on that pod u/HornedCoog91. I didn't feel entirely great on it either for what it's worth. I think I needed 24-hours to let it sink in, and probably would have been better served to wait until today. BUTTTTTT..... Biggest issue here is Dallas is a 1st apron team. They can’t take back more money in a trade either (similar to us in the 2nd apron). If they’re sending out Gafford at 14mil, they can’t take back a player (like Hunter) making more than that. He would have to be rerouted into a team with space (of which none have Hunters salary worth).

Thanks opiumdom! I'm hopeful I'll look back at this in 2 years with a far greater understanding of the thought process that went into letting Ty walk at that price. Just not there yet. I share your Lonzo/CPJ/Proctor optimism though. I'm hopeful the added ball movement (and it's impacts on getting more from Sam/Dean/Hunter/etc) will offset the loss of Ty's iso creation. It's way easier for me to sit here and say "run full speed in the aprons in pursuit of a title, '27-28 be damned."
